Got to be the highest price we have ever been for a home game - $11.
The line is 54.5.

I'd be surprised if we couldn't at least sneak under that.

I know Schache will be great for us.....eventually.

However, he was crap last week . Was rarely sighted and when he was, he couldn't hold a mark, regularly fumbled ground ball as well as NOT laying a shepherd in front of our goals that would have presented Lester with a walk in goal.

I think he should have another "rest" next week.

I don't agree that a run in the NEAFL will do nothing for his confidence. The poor bugger looks like he has zero of that right now anyway.

He still has a lot of the fundamentals to learn. My only worry with playing him in the 2s is the fact that they are getting hammered and he won't get good service. We saw on the weekend how much better Freeman was in the seniors than at a lower level.

I think we have to be satisfied that he won't contribute a lot in most games this season. Hopefully we get one or two big games.

Agree. I think Hawthorn are travelling worse than Sydney were when we played them. The Line was 55.5, funny that we lengthened to win yet the line has come in. There is now $13 available for us to win, I am going to take it. I don't think we will win but my punting philosophy has always been to take overs when available, not necessarily just to back what I think will win - I'd have us at about $7.50/8.

His second efforts have been disappointing. He might be lacking a bit of confidence to put his body over the ball, being generally quite a bit less developed than his opponents.

As you say, that sort of thing can be taught in the NEAFL.

The interesting one for me is West/Martin. We were definitely too top-heavy in attack against Melbourne but the dual rucks negated Gawn quite effectively. Breaking it down further I think it's fair to say West's centre bounce work is far better than Stef's. We actually got a few clear centre clearances from Trent whereas Stef rarely effects a hit-out to advantage. However, Stef is the better body-on-body ruckman at boundary throw-ins and obviously covers the ground better.

Controversial but I'd be in favour of resting Stef (he's clearly not quite right/far below his best) and playing West. To supplement this I'd bring back Walker and rest Schache, with Walker relieving in the ruck. Walker's best game for the club was he filled in for Stef in the Gold Coast game, so he has shown that he's capable. Plus it gets him into the game/around the footy.

Then we can bring back a fresh Schache for the inaugural Weitering-Schache Cup.

Shache did look off on the weekend. Looks like he knows he's not likely to win contests at the moment, which is probably sapping his confidence a little

Do we pop him back in the magoos and get the kid to kick a couple of bags of 4+

If Schache isnt tired he has to learn how to bounce back after an ordinary one.All part of development imo.
It's tricky in the first year as its very easy to over work the young bodies, especially with the bigger players. We dont want to see him miss a big period with stress fractures or something. I'm more than ok with him getting breaks over the year. I didnt have expectations for him to play that many games any way. He has probably out performed our expectations for a 1st year key forward already

Perhaps we should think about playing him in defence if he gets dropped to the reserves (if we are expecting to get smashed that is). Lots of good forwards learned how to be better players by playing in the backline.

I got two problems with Schache at the moment. My first problem is that he needs to improve his work off the ball. I want to see him push off his opponent because at the moment he isn't doing it and is trying to jump at the ball but his direct opponent is always breathing down his neck and putting in an easy spoil. Needs to add a few more strings to his bow other than the jump at ball he's been doing. I know that will improve as it's fairly easy to iron out those however my second problem is that he is a bit timid and soft in the contest. I see the same traits in him that I have seen in Berger and these seem to be harder to instil into someone. I questioned his toughness during his u18s championships and will continue to until he adds a bit if hardness and Montreal into his game. I think he should model his game on Lynch from the Sun's who has a bit of swagger in him.

Rocky back it seems

Jaden McGrath (foot): Indefinitely

Is McGrath on the long term injury list?

What is his problem - same as last year?

Damn, wanted Harris back for Carlton :(

Peculiar that there's no mention of Gardiner...

Yeah whats the story with Gardiner? If Andrews isn't fit for Carlton game i desperately hope Dizzy is. Carlton may have won four games this season but we should be beating them. Hopefully Cutler is back for Hawks this week.

Don't usually do changes but I'll have a crack.

Harwood Merrett Christensen
Cutler Paine McStay
Bewick Zorko Hanley
Taylor West Bell
Lester Freeman Keays
Martin Rich Robinson
Mathieson Mayes Robertson Bastinac

In: Bewick, Cutler
Out: Schache, Evans

Agree with those changes but i am not sold on Christensen down back.

Harwood Merrett Paine
Cutler McStay Hanley
Bewick Rich Bell
Taylor Martin Christensen
Lester Freeman Keays
West Robinson Zorko
Mayes Matho Robbo Bastinac

CBeams, Bewick and Cutler in
Paparone another week in reserves in the forward line please!
CBeams to the wing, not tagging a HF.
Schache rested, Evans & ? Omitted.
I'm not sure who the ? Is yet. Definitely not Westy, who played well.
Maybe the ? Is Payne or NRobbo if injury too great. If not, it's probably Keayes who needs to be rested?
Mind you Bastinac had a 52.4% disposal efficiency, 4 clangers and only 3 clearances. 11 contested possessions but if you're going to butcher it when you get it, and you are a senior player, you should have a week off.
Rockliff shouldn't play IMHO but if so Bastinac.

Fair enough. Personally I liked his game. If I'm honest I thought a positional move like that would have resulted in Bundy dropping his bundle and chucking a tantrum but he responded nicely. He got plenty of the ball and often mopped up in defence. Not sure on the numbers but he would've finished with roughly 20D? Which when you compare to recent efforts of Dawson and C. Beams stacks up quite favourably. Also think that extra 70-80 games of experience is important down back - an area we're clearly lacking.

Yeah hard to argue with that. My only issue was we needed crumbers with so many talls playing fwd and thats what he is paid to do amongst other things. He did rebound well but my main worry is was he on his man when he needed to be? Will be interesting to see where he plays this week? I wouldn't bother bringing Claye Beams back. I think i could get more kicks than him off half back. He has really struggled. Hope he gets back to the player we all thought he could be but it does seem like it as injuries have curtailed him.

Merrett's bad games are becoming too frequent, he would have to be questionable once Andrews is ready.

Schache probably due a rest. Didn't offer much today. Evans doesn't look up to AFL standard to me.

Out: Evans, Schache
In: Paps, Green

Howell me down if need be. But what about Merrett up forward?

we could start to look at Paine, Andrews, McStay etc and what they look like down there, we are going to

get flogged either way, so why not start to let them gel.

Merrett is a liability down there, his ball use is diabolical and he is just too 'low IQ' to have that much ball coming near him all the time, his leadership down there is overrated too - we are a mess down there.

I'd personally like to see if we could get another season and a half out of him up forward, he might find a new lease on life up there and provide a big body to go with Freeman and Schache, put fear through a few opposition defenders.

Walker really impressed in the ruck againt's the suns, how do people think he would go down back?

He just isn't up to it as a forward and I can't see him coming good.

Ideally when Andrews comes back I'd not like to see him at all. In saying that, I'd prefer to have him in the forward line crashing packs and using his speed off the mark. Lessens his effects of awfulness
