Laycock should be dropped, keep ryder at CHB, get hille back and NLM, Winders and Jetta.

We looked incredibly slow yesterday.

We need JJ back and Gumbleton should come in for lumbering dinosaur.

Houli had 40 touches too.

Get your act together Sheeds.

From all reports Vanders is a week away from being fully fit ;)

Timed his run perfectly. ;)

On the subject of Hille, Winderlich, Welsh and Lovett-Murray, is anyone else abit skeptical on bringing 4 players back from soft tissue injuries at once?

Not to mention Slattery who has soreness in the hammy atm aswell.

We all remember round 2 2004 against the Saints where we brought back Mcveigh and M Johnson fresh from hammies and they both did them again that night.

If we dont bring them back we will get slaughtered.

Imagine.....Campbell belts the ball out, Mitchell gathers the handballs to Hodge who kicks onto the chest of a leading Franklin.

I'm already having nightmares

Franklin doesn't mark the ball, just sits off the pack for the crumbs. :p

I agree with the above.. certainly no more than 4 changes..

We simply arent fit enough.

And the only players who tried their guts out were davey and hirdy.

We need hard bodies like JJ and Hille back.

If not Franklin marking then Roughead, Dixon will carve us up.

laycock shouldnt go we need two ruckman on the field (hille needs some help there) and we want ryder in defence. Perhaps johns should go im not really sure his been okay seeings he has had limited gametime in most games. heff and slats would be very unlucky to be omitted. both have been doing enough to stay in the side i think. Dyson has been very dissapointing, i was tipping him for a big improver this season, more so then winderlick, guess i was wrong. kepler should be gone and i wouldnt be unhappy if he was never to return. bolton was okay despite what people think but not in our best 22.
so heres my ins and outs

ins: hille, nlm, welsh, winders, jj
out: kepler, bolton, dyson, slats (very unlucky but i think heffernan has more to offer at this stage), johns (good but forward line is too top heavy).

also someone else that should up for selection is campo. most people dont like him but with our game plan focusing on accurate short kicks i think he will excel. 6 inclusions however is way too much, even five i think is too much. perhaps NLM will get a run in the vfl for a week before returning in which case slats will probably keep his spot

JJ wont play next round as by his own admission, he wants to play another one or two with Bendigo (dont forget no pre-season last year and Sunday was his first outing this year)....

NLM, Hille, Winderlich and a 1st gamer will be in.

Bradley, Bolton, Courtney and MJ will be out.

Last year Hawthorn smashed us (at the Dome) with their run out of the backline with pace (Crawford included) and we cant afford to be top heavy. Bendigo have a game in the meantime so I think Sheeds will lay the challenge down to one of: Houli, Hislop, Reimers or Lonergan to take the fourth spot....

CJ will stay in IMO. And Welsh will come back. So no first gamer to come in. Dyson will be out.

Your right about Welsh - forgot he may be ready by then. I still think that they wont play CJ for lask of defensive speed with three talls in the forward with Hawthorns defensive run and defensive midfield. Still think Sheeds will give a first gamers a chance after the success that he's seen from his Nemisis Malthouse with his three first gamers....

I reckon Lonergan is the most ready of the "young guns" to play senior footy. But I don't think they should be rushed. Unless we have injuries, we have enough options as it is.

I thought that both Hislop and Reimers looked better than Lonergan on Sunday. Reimers certainly had better skills than Lonergan and Hislop a much stronger body....

Reimers did look better than Lonergan skill wise. But he is still too small, needs another preseason. Hislpo has a stronger body, but less composure. Lets not forget, Lonergan has been on our list for an extra year than Hislop and Reimers. I really think he deserves a go before all of the midfielders drafted this season, Houli included.

Understand what you mean about Reimers, however Brad Dick kicked a ripper goal from 50m out and he's probably shorter and lighter than Reimers (and in his first year).....Lonergan prob deserves a go, but lets see too what the new guys are made of !

Yep, Chop Chop.

I want blood after that performance last week.

Out: Bradley, Bolton, Dyson, Laycock, Heffernan.

In: NLM, Welsh, JJ, Hille, Winders.

All position for position players, just a level better.

NO!!!!! THey havent done anything wrong. Slattery and MJ should get the chop instead of these 2, especially Heffernan. Agree with the ins though, but NLM will have to play, and play well, for Bendigo this week.

I agree 100% hulld. This is my first post, and I would like to say I've valued your opinion since keeping an eye on this forum. You are obviously a very knowledgeable football supporter. Even though I retired a few years ago now, I still catch up with a few current bombers and have passed on a few of your observations.

It's hard to say who's going to go in or out, it could vary from one or two changes up to as many as six changes. Injries always make it hard to predict.

In my opinion:

The guys that will be looked at for a spot: Hille, Welsh, Lovett-Murray, Jason Johnson, Camporeale, Winderlich

The guys under pressure: Bolton, Bradley, Slattery, Dyson, Johns, Laycock

-Bolton because of a limited impact. We need more output that what he provided.
-Bradley because he's too much of liabilty with the ball and we struggle to find a position of whch he is capable.
-Slattery because he was poor against Collingwood and hasn't got great disposal compared to his main rival Chris Heffernan.
-Dyson because he struggled to get into it and there seems to be plenty of midfielders/flankers on the comeback.
-Johns because he seems to crowd Lloyd and Lucas' structure
-Laycock because his fitness is poor and because Ryder seems more valuable in the ruck and another tall defender isn't paramount against Hawthorn.

Chances are one or two of the possible ins won't come up and we will retain another tall in the side. There's always the possibilty of a debutant as well. Hard week to judge.

What I would like to see happen:
In: Hille, Welsh, NLM, Winderlich
Out: Bolton, Bradley, Slattery, MJ.

What I think will happen:
In: Hille, Welsh, JJ, Winderlich
Out: Bolton, Bradley, Dyson, Johns.

I would Hate to see Johns or Dyson get dropped. I think Johns has shown that he can hold his own even with Lloyd and Lucas in the team. I know Dyson didn't have a great game, but not many players did. Players should not get dropped for form this week bacause no one was really in form.

After seeing JJ play for Bendigo on the weekend, I'm not convincd he has fully recovered from injury. If he plays well this week then bring him in for sure, but he should not be a walk up start. If he has another poor week in the VFL, I don't see any point swapping him for someone who had a Poor week in the AFL. Same goes with Campo. Watson's kicking isnt going to magically improve in the VFL. It might look better compared with the other stuff that is dished out in the VFL, but it will still be sub-par in the AFL. He should only be dropped if he is losing us games because of his disposals. He isnt doing that. In fact the positives from his handballing outweigh any negatives from his kicking IMO. He is too important for us in clearences to drop.

And why the need to rush in youngsters. They have plenty of time to develop in the VFL. Apart from Hird, no one else from our starting midfield looks set to leave at the end of the year. Winders, Jobe and Stanton are still the future. Winders is the oldest of them at 22. They still have 4-6 years before they hit the peak, at which time the others (Lonergan, Houli, Hislop, Reimers, Dempsey) can start to come through and get more opportunity at senior level. I think everyone is over excited at the guys we have drafted this year. Yeah they will be good, in 3-5 years time. Until then, let them develop at their own pace at VFL. there is no need to rush them.

One of the most sensible posts I have read in a while. You're right when you say we have all gotten a bit excited about recent draftees, but it has been hard not to with what we've seen from davey and the Jetsta. Hopefully Sheeds gives a lot of the youngsters we've got a couple of games at least, if only to allow them to get to play alongside one of Essendons greatest players in his last season.
