Changes v. Hawks

I know pace is our strength which I like... but does anyone feel as though the Hawks will be a little bit 'bigger' and 'stronger' than our boys? They're are known as being a very physical side, I just hope they don't intimidate our boys like they did in round 1, Moloney could be a handy inclusion to go head to head with the likes of Brown, Lewis, Sewell, Hodge, Mitchell etc. I feel as though either Bennell or Bail might have to make way for Moloney... we need his grunt work to go up against the tough Hawks.

Really? You're dropping a back pocket (who has been very underrated this year) for a half forward flank. That means that we would have Green, Dunn, Watts, Jurrah and Bate in the same forward line. We need Bartram.

Bartram hs caused too many turn overs and need some practice in the seconds.

Morton will be an ideal Bartram's replacement which I forgeot to add :D

Moloney would be the only change.

Also people need to stop taking out small forwards and putting in Brad Miller, he doesn't replace a Bennell or a Wonaeamirri. If he came in it would have to be for Dunn, Watts, Green or Jurrah all of which are in good form or just coming into good form, yes Miller kicked 10 goals but that doesn't mean he's an automatic in it just means he's the most in form player to replace an out of form player in our forward line.

Also who the hell replaces a superb shut-down back pocket in Bartram with a lanky attacking wingman in Morton? Also why the hell has Bartram been thrown up at all to go out of the team? People overstate and exaggerate his "turnovers" incredibly, he has been one of our most consistent and biggest improvers along with Dunn.

No changes or 1 change max.

In: Bate
Out: Bartram

No Miller. Bate is the better option.
Moloney need a week in the 2nd's to warm up.

Horrible call.
1) getting rid of our back pocket? Bartram has been super this year, his shut-down proficiency negates his poor disposal.
2) If we're going to bring in a med/tall fwd this week, it MUST be Miller. Form like that has to be rewarded over an average day for Bate.

Without looking at any stats, I would suggest that Bartram's disposal efficiency is not that bad. He does not need any games in the seconds. He's doing a terrific job.

Morton is not an ideal replacement for Bartram, in fact he is far from it. Aside from the fact that Morton is not in your suggested team for next week, they're completely different players.

Anyone calling for McKenzie to be dropped does not know footy. Terrible call. Same with Bartram.

In: Cheney, Miller
Out: PJ, Bennell

Cheney in as think his strength will help against the hawks forwards ie helping rivers and garland cover roughie while frawley towels up buddy frankfurt, and miller up forward to play the role pj played sundy as the resting ruckman:thumbsu:

Easy to sit back and have a go at others.

Where are your suggested changes?

On Bartram, he is a role player, it wouldn't matter if there were 30 better players on the list, if they can't play a negating role on a small in the back half, he'd still be in the side.

Another tough call this week. Do we bring Miller in. Hard to ignore a 10 goal game, and he was in the emergencies for last week. But i like the fact our forwardline at the moment is very unpredictable.

Morton? Is Moloney fit? MacDonald copped a nasty knock during the game, will he come up? I think Benell and PJ are in trouble. Our rucks were quite poor against the Tigers where they should have dominated.

Bail could come under scrutiny as well as Trengove. Both did some nice things, but didn't do enough to guarantee a spot for this week.

I think Bailey would like to make minimal changes and just try and sharpen the guys up after an average performance against Richmond.

Match ups are crucial this week. Dunn to Hodge? Junior on Mitchell? Frawley on Franklin? These are the guys who carve us up everytime we play them. Bailey will have some sleepless nights this week. Hawks will be breathing fire as well.

In
Tapscott(unleash the beast)

Out
Benell(unlucky, but has had 1 too many games with no influence)

If MacDonald isn't fit, then Cheney comes into the side. If Moloney is fit, he comes in for Bail.

At the risk of sounding like a massive hypocrite (see some of my not-so-recent posts re:Bartram), his disposal isn't that bad, it is his decision making that isn't great - and to his credit that has improved markedly this year.

Morton has masses of potential, and if he ever reaches it, he would be wasted in the back pocket. His current problem is that he was almost our best player in his first two years and seems to have gotten overly comfortable with his position in the team. So much so that with all this competition for spots at the moment he is going to have to step it up soon or risk fading into mediocrity, or being traded.

Think you need to check your expectations CD, we are not a top 8 side yet and any win is a good win. As many noted pre-game, it was a danger match for us, and to run over the top in the 4th quarter the way we did was not "an average performance" at all.

Also, wouldn't Beamer for Junior and Cheney (pfff) for Bail be more logical?

Pretty harsh for a top pick quality player?

Yeah definitely, and a bit tongue in cheek. Just expressing my dissapointment I guess at his lack of progress this year, and I percieve it to be an attitude problem more than anything else.

If you look at Bartram from round 1, how many times he caused turn overs with his disposals when he collects the footy?

Kicking skills - spayed it completely (ie: out of the boundry line)
Handballs - turned it over and did not hit it to his team mates.

Decision making is poor and slow - similar to Daniel Bell :(

Cheney for Joel Mac, not Junior. We need Junior up and going this week. And setting high standars for my club is a good thing. I expected more from the team on Sunday, and actually thought we were quite poor for most of the game. Even Dean Bailey thought so if you listen to his interview post game. I'm not settling for mediocrity anymore. I expected more from Sundays game. Play like that against Hawthorn and it will be the ame result as Round 1...

Sorry, mis-read your post. Joel Mac has been great for the last month though, not sure on that. Cheney didn't really show much when he came in for the StK/Ess games I didn't think. I agree on setting high standards and I didn't see his interview, but find it a bit harsh.

Joel Mac has been great the last month, and i would only see him coming out of the side if the knock he took last match was serious enough to miss a match. That was my concern. He looked proppy and probably has a corky. Certainly wouldn't drop him on current form.

Sorry. My post was a little overly aggressive.

I get frustrated when anyone suggests that Jordie should go. His tackling and fierce desire to win the footy at stoppages are a big reason we are playing some good footy again. It's no secret that when we dropped/rested him for a few games mid year we struggled. Watch any stoppage and see which MFC player is the last to get up off the ground 9 times out of 10.

For what it's worth, no change this week.

Moloney is still a week away, no change to the side this week. I would imgaine Miller, Warnock and maybe Tapscott/Morton added to an extended bench.
