Only change I would consider is Kep or Clarke out of the team. We can't have both of them in the same team. Even though Zac is not strong enough to hold a KP I would play him instead of Keplar. He is a better back up ruck and more mobile.

I have usually been calling for Pearce to be dropped, but his performance today was very good and he deserves his spot next week.

Are you ready to admit you were wrong yet?

In: Pav

Out: Bradley
IN Lower, Silvagni, Pavlich, Sutcliffe
OUT Pearce, Dawson, Ibbo, Mzungu

Am I doing it right?

Seriously though, would love to get Lower in but can't really drop anyone unless injured. As they always say don't mess with a winning team. Just Pav for Kep.

You have your joke posts...

Out:
Mzungu- hopeless waste of space
Bradley- see mzungu

In
Pavlich
Lower

..and then you have KPR.

I wonder if Lyon will go to the well again with Jack Anthony?

20 possessions, 4 goals, 10 marks, 4 inside 50´s in a team well beaten in the WAFL. Dead rubber game, he could well be tempted.

For what? Personally would love to see JA given a shot in the midfield. With his field kicking skills, and his skills in the air, could be handy.

If Kep is out and Pav is rested, I reckon he may be tempted to throw him forward again. There is no doubt Jack has been working his arse off this year for no result. Ross has been very sympathetic to him in interviews. Might be a chance to give him a last chance to see whether its worth keeping him on or paying his contract out and cutting him.

Its true, but that last quarter forward line worked pretty damned well. If JA did come in a kick a bag, would be some head aches at the selection table.

I hope Lyon takes this chance to rest some weary legs and prepare them for a good run at finals, I'd drop McPhee, Mzungu, Bradley and even Pavlich/Mayne/Balli if they need it, just rest any mofo from best 22 that has any niggles, not a true believer you lose your form from 1 week off

the team this week was our best 22 minus pavlich for clarke, thats the team i want to see in the finals i recon (soz lower)

If Geelong beat Sydney:
IN: Lower, Anthony, Silvagni, Roberton, Sutcliffe
OUT: Fyfe, Mayne, McPharlin, McPhee, Bradley

This is more about resting players that have had niggles recently. Some more prime movers could also be rested, but that might be going overboard. McPharlin would the one I'd rest who doesn't seem to have a niggle. We simply need him out there in a final, and he isn't the sort of player who would miss a beat by having another week off.

I don't really agree with talk about not resting players because it might derail our form before the finals. The top 4 clubs don't mind resting their whole side to prepare for a Preliminary. Plus we are playing Melbourne. They will not help us one bit in getting the side primed for a final. If anything, it could have the opposite effect ... play a soft, hopeless side and get your players into bad habits. A compromise is not to rest the whole side, but rest a few who might be sore and/or most valuable.

If Sydney beat Geelong, then it might be a different story. We get a chance to see how the NM vs GWS game is going (starts 3 hours before our game). If it is something stupid like 130 points, then I'd say we stick with resting players (though finishing 7th to play North in Melbourne might not be so bad). If North is only up by 10 goals, then play Fyfe, Mayne and McPharlin and go for 6th. Still think we should rest Pavlich this week.

In: Pav
Out: Kep (concussion) or Clarke (unlucky but if Kep comes up I can't see them keeping Clarke)

On Lower - was speaking to him, Forster, Mello and Griff over the weekend - he was saying the coaches like them to string a few games together before considering a call-up. He's pretty much written off this season, and I don't see them bringing him in with the team performing. In any case he plays a different role to Mz - inside mid vs gut running link up man. Lower goes in and gets the balls - Mz spreads and delivers.

Not Ross's style I don't think, can't see many being rested if we've got the chance to secure a home final.

I wish Lower could somehow get into the team as well but just can't see who he'd replace.. I'd like to say Suban but he contributed a fair bit on the w/e.

Out: Kep (concussion)
In: Pav

The only other change I can see is Griff in for Clarke but I doubt that will actually happen.

In: Pav

Out: Bradley

I wouldn't be surprised if Bradley has to miss this week because of concussion. That was an incredibly heavy shot that he took, right on the jaw.

The commentators were busy smoking Swallow's pole for being so tough and having such a hard head, while Kep took a massive shot right on the sweet spot. He's a tough, tough b*stard... tried to stand up several times after a shot that would have knocked most blokes out cold.

If Pav is fully recovered, and Kep is unable to play then then bring the Pav in. If Kep has to miss and Pav isn't quite right, then I'd be happy to have someone like JA get a game at FF, with Mayne playing CHF.

We were very lucky that Clarke was playing... with Bradley off Sandi would have had to ruck the whole game after that if Clarke hadn't been on the field.

No one was bad. No one.
Agreed. We were very even.

True that. All the guys I was half expecting to do the usual 'must-win-game-no-show' stood up at crucial times. It was a really solid performance across the board.

Other than a fit Pavlich coming in for Clarke - or Bradley depending on the medical test - I wouldn't be making any other changes.

I've been critical of Mzungu at times this season, but he was fine on the weekend. Besides, Sutcliffe is the only guy that has exposed form at AFL level who plays similarly to Mzungu. It is very unlikely that Ross will bring him in.

Lower would only come in for Pearce, De Boer or another 'inside' type and that is also unlikely. Prior to yesterdays game, I would've brought him in for Suban. Not so sure any more. I still think Lower could have more impact, particularly if he was needed over +3 qtrs. Certainly not a change I would make after Sunday's game anyway.

I could never understand how much Dawson and Pearce were crucified. That, when on the flip-side a player like Suban, who has not exactly been a worthy contributor seems to receive unfettered adulation and support. Hopefully in time they gain the respect of the fickle segments of the Freo fan base, because very quickly they are earning it.

I dunno, we must have been reading different forums because Suban hasn't been getting much love at all this year. He's showed good signs over the last couple of weeks though, which is why he's finally getting a bit of positive attention here.

As for Dawson and Pearce, people will always have their favourites. I've been flogging Ibbo for a couple of weeks, and have given him votes this week because he played a terrific game. Showed real urgency in several contests, for the second week in a row. If Ibbo played the way he has for the last two weeks I'd keep my gob shut about the bloke for all time.

Mz played a sh*t game last week and I was hoping he'd miss, but he played reasonably well this week also. He fell over a couple of times and attempted a weak tackle or so, but overall was good.

This is the perfect game to bring in 1 or 2 'hungry' youngsters to give the team some zip. Who in and out I dont know but watch out for it. Not enough to unbalance the team but some who really want to stand up and get themselves noticed.

For what? Personally would love to see JA given a shot in the midfield. With his field kicking skills, and his skills in the air, could be handy.

Main issues are pace and mobility. Best spot for him is in the back line, rather than midfield. Unfortunately for JA we have a lot of depth there.

EDIT: Also, I don't think he's ever played as a mid before. We could use his kicking out of our back line, but don't have a spot for him there.

Are you ready to admit you were wrong yet?

No, and why should I? He played well & I was attempting to be gracious by acknowledging that.
Should he have been dropped previously? Undoubtedly so in my opinion.
I appreciate that most don't agree with my opinion, but I don't care.
I would love to be proved wrong, but he has a long way to go before I see him as best 22. 1 good game in the last 10 or so games doesn't vindicate your stance IN MY OPINION.

Lyon about to go on 6PR, will post a link here later and main points.
-Walters and Ballas complement each other well
-Defended Dawson with his role in defence
-Reconfirming decision by doctors and physicians to clear players from concussion (e.g. McPhee)
-Impressed with Clarke and his pressure
-Clancee described as a 'solid' footballer that does the right thing at training and puts his head over the ball
-Ross doesn't care about other results, we just play for the next opposition
