I fully expect the Lions to get smashed, but I just want to sit in the MCC Members enjoying the company of my Melbourne mate and his brother. Gallows humour is kind of fun and I really don't mind Melbourne.
yep, if our contested ball and clearance shambles continue imagine what viney, petracca, oliver will do to us.

Yeah I was shocked when Richy took a contested grab on the weekend (or the previous one?).

Also a damning stat.

It's those T-Rex arms. :(

Haha I remember that. And i thought holy shit.

i have been a big fan of daniel rich ever since he was drafted, was considered a slider to us at pick 7 if my memory serves me correctly. i have been saying for the last 2-4 pre seasons this is going to be the breakout year for richy where he becomes that consistent A+ grade talent that i think he has the "potential" to be.

i am sadly starting to come to the realization that i was wrong and it is more than likely never going to happen, looks like he will be a good solid B grader at best who shows flashes of brilliance spasmodically. put him on the half back line and use his skills there as others have said.

Mathieson, Hipwood and Freeman all big chances this week by sounds of it.
Hipwood will give it his all. I still remember the preseason intraclub where IIRC he kicked 3 goals on Merrett... he just goes for everything and competes in the air better than Schache from what I saw although not as polished. Still slight but I think he deserves a chance to show us what he can do on the big stage. Won't be expecting miracles and won't be surprised if he only gets a couple of touches. He is a long term project that has the ability to be one of our most important IMO.

Having seen Andrews come through I'm holding high hopes for Hipwood!

Agreed..Rich and Hanley are not genuine mids , maybe once in a whi,e but not in the basic structure.
Yep they should be the ones streaming through on outside receiving the handball out. If only we had someone to dish it out to them.Ball hunters like keays and Matho come to mind but in an ideal world we shouldn't be relying on 2 kids to be our extractors, as good as they may be.
Whilst Rich has copped his share, I think Hanley has flown under the radar a tad. Been nowhere near his best this year. He's not a Centre square player.

Ah hope... I remember having hope...

But yeah, get some games into Hipwood and Mathieson - if we can't get our senior players to perform at least we might get to see some development from them, Schache and Keays

Seems like once he signed his contract, he decided he didn't have to try too hard anymore.
Very disappointing for a senior player and vice captain.

Getting Mathieson and Hipwood into the senior side and seeing positive signs from them is the type of thing that makes years in which we are in the bottom 4 bearable.

Rich I think was starting to show his best before the injury. Very disappointed by his development whatever the reason..

swan said on SEN this morning "it looks like we will have a couple of debutants this week, we'll find out later in the week."

It's like we're trying to pre-emptively get younger to provide ourselves with excuses. Don't get me wrong, I am sure Mathieson, Hipwood, Keyes and Schache will be firmly entrenched first 22 within a couple years, but I cant recall four first year players in a team at the same time since the early GWS years.

Us in 2014?

We had at least four from Round 4 to Round 23, except for Round 15.

We even had five eight times that season from Round 5 to Round 9, and again in Rounds 14, 21 and 22, and six twice (!) - in Rounds 20 (Aish, Freeman, Gardiner, McStay, Robertson and Taylor) and 23 (Aish, Freeman, Gardiner, McStay, O'Brien and Taylor).

I would also drop some of the above mentioned players from the leadership group, we need a reshuffle and only put guys in that put in every week.

Geez, front page of the AFL. Boys morale will be at an all-time low this week. Let's see how they bounce back. Whether they play with determination as a team, or just lose by 80+ to Melbourne will be the 1st chapter of the rest of the season.

I've been saying it for years. Thought we should of traded him two years ago when he had real currency.

Paine not a debutant though. Mass changes.
