I reckon if we delist butcher it will be akin to repeating the same mistake of not drafting a back up ruck.

What percentage of game time do you think Jacko will be 'resting' considering Lobbe can do absolutely nothing but ruck or sit on the bench?

Have no idea. What I do know is whatever we do is probably a sign of things to come as Hinkley seems adamant on a 2 ruck system. This means our 3rd tall will be a ruck more often than not.

Much worse, as 1) we've seen what effects having inadequate cover has and 2) unlike the clubs (over optimistic as it turned out) surety we wouldn't be hurt by any WADA suspension, we know Dougal is injured, Ryder hasn't played (by round 1) for 18 months and Dixon has never played a whole season. I fear we'll be doing a permanent melt from list finalisations through round 1. And then scream inarticulately when the club says they couldn't have forseen whichever of Ryder, Hoff or Dixon cops the multi week injury leaving us more rooted then everyone's favourite lady of the night.

Wat?

It doesn't matter if he rests forward - without butcher there he becomes the other KPF. It's irrelevant if he is resting or not.

Also, I'd trust the ball in butchers hands more than Jacko in front of the sticks. The stats back me up on that

Fair enough although keep in mind the stats don't count out on the full or kicks that don't make the distance. In any case, I'd argue that Trengove is a more reliable kick, especially 35-45m out.

If we can't bring a somewhat experienced tall forward in and/or trade/delist Butcher I'm with ya

*Bassett being non-plussed with Butcher's game against Brisbane was probably the alarm bell for the Butcher Brethren

The stats are from the goal kicking we took at training in 2014 when I did work experience at the club, it was about 12000 shots on goal club wide over the year. Redden and Trengove were the worst. Butch was about 8 % more accurate over the course of the year.

Interesting fun fact. Jackson who is the worst kick at the club had the best kicking efficiency in 2012 - because the game plan was to kick backwards 15m. Crazy how stats lie.

Ken just said they dropped Butch because they need the extra ruck????

So Trengove is a better CHF than Butch

I dont get it

Against Sydney we had 36 inside 50s, our lowest I50 count since the Primus era. Allir Allir, who is an incredibly athletic defender, could have tied one hand behind his back and beaten Dixon and Butcher by himself.
Have you considered that a big part of the reason we didn't go forward was that one of the players playing KPP had no idea what to do and just stood stagnant all game? Or when he does make a half hearted lead he points that he wants the ball kicked to one spot and runs in a completely different direction?

Lucky Chad had the smarts to burn him in the 2nd qtr and go to Gray instead or we might have gone scoreless for the game.

Yeah it wasn't Sydney's brigade of COLA-infused superstars dominating possession to the tune of 120+ that stopped us from going foward, it was young Johnny B running to the wrong spot.

You do know that Butcher was one of only four players to actually kick a goal (probably through divine intervention) for us right?

i dont get what you dont get. we needed an extra ruck, butcher cant ruck. Trengove and Lobbe both can. What else is there to understand.

pretty sure everyone agrees with that.

Butcher can't ruck and Lobbe's inability to do sweet **** all elsewhere on the ground means he either rucks all day or is on the bench wasting rotations. If Ryder was playing, the flexibility he has to 'rest' forward or as an intercept mark down back would leave enough run Butcher can play. As per 2015 Lobbe is a domino effect of causing issues beyond just his poor tap work.

i think there's a perception out there that back-up ruckmen can't be based at CHB. throws out rotations and probably takes a bit too much out of them in the ruck to stay close to the power forwards.

seeing if Trengove can go forward was always going to be on the cards, it's been tested but never for an extended period. while a lot of people are probably critical of not giving butch a chance it's also beneficial to give trengove a chance before it really counts next season. we're still likely to play 3 tall forwards for most of the game. as i see it we're still testing things for next year which is what everyone wanted. take the names away from it and it seems an ok move.

that said i have little faith Trengove will show anything as a genuine forward but we're trying something.

Whilst our final standing is likely to be a mediocre 9th-11th place I'd our argue that our method for getting there has been anything but vanilla.

Just look at our percentage in relation to our wins. There wouldn't be too many teams that have finished a season with a break even win/loss ratio and a percentage over 110%, but we probably will despite the NSW double debacle. So we've been winning big this year, sometimes when we're not even expected to win at all, such as the Richmond and North away games where we were paying over $3. But then we lose the ridiculous ones to the likes of Carlton and Fremantle.

That's not vanilla. That's a table of Nutella and Vegemite sandwiches that have been randomly mixed together.

We are the AFL's most complicated and frustrating team.
We are vanilla with our predictability to fail in the games we all think we will fail. We are too expected and have lost a hard edge. Teams don't fear us, work is hard and we fall over too easily - predictability = failure.
