I think Boak is still a very good player. He would make most lists in the AFL in either the mid or forward line.

I just don't think right now he is in our best 22 players and I don't think he gives us the best chance of winning against Melbourne.

We can play Dix, Thomas, Marshall and Watts all at the same time, and at the very least have a passable forward line, but only if we drop Boak.

If Jonas is fit then replace him with Hombsch or Clurey. If DBJ is not right then can Jonas just replace him and we play Hombsch, Howard, Clurey and Jonas? Dees have Hogan, McDonald and Pederson playing fwd.

I watched the replay from the other night, and when you don't have the emotion because you already know the result you obviously see things differently.

Boak's game was nowhere near as bad as I initially thought, BUT there is no doubt he is rushing his disposal, ie he has become very aware of a potential tackler, which may be a sign he is losing (lost) the ability to get that little bit of space required to dispose of the ball correctly.

My other criticism of him is there is no obvious evidence of any team leadership during the game, as opposed to Robbie Gray who does it regularly, but that is not to say that Boak isn't fantastic in the qtr and 3/4 time huddles, or during the half time break.
All the above aside though I am on the same page as those who believe this season should be Boaky's last as captain.

I'd love to see Watts come back in but I just can't see anyone coming out for him. It'd have to be Thomas, but Thomas did enough to hold his spot unless Watts absolutely bashes the door down with a huge performance.

To be fair, i think both should be in our best forward line.

R.Gray Dixon Thomas
S.Gray Watts Marshall

Realistically, its probably one of Boak or Ebert that would need to come out if you put together our best 22, taking into account having a balanced side. Come the last the spot on the bench im left picking between those two.

I feel like Rockie has become our on field leader in the way that Hodge was at the Hawks when Mitchell was skipper

Sigh,We are here to win football games, Watts also needs his head managed.

He’ll be fine.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he wasn’t told he’d get that game and Watts will be back for the Melbourne game.

Nah. For mine Marshall was always brought it a week early. One sanfl game in about 7 weeks for a rookie is less than ideal, ridiculous actually but if he kicks a couple of goals it looks smart I guess. No harm done but now he's there he needs game time and plenty of it to get him up to speed. I actually thought he was ok and would imagine Ken would be very happy with his 1st quarter and not disappointed with the rest of his game.

I love Trav and always will but gee, if he wasn’t captain he 100% would have been dropped by now. Anyone who disagrees with that is in serious denial.
2nd in inside 50s
3rd in disposals
4th in tackles
5th in goal assists

All while playing as a forward.

The things he needs to clean up are his clangers/mistakes per game as well as cleaning up his kicking considering his efficiency was 60% from round 1 to 11 but in 12 and 13 has managed to cut the season average down to 55%.

If he was just a little bit cleaner he'd probably be in contention for the AA team.

All those stats show is that Trav still knows how to find the football, which no one would dispute. Doesn’t change the fact that he has been utterly putrid for long patches.

Utterly putrid is this year has been:
Neade's last month,
Trent McKenzie's debut,
Pittard's game against West Coast
Tom Rockliff's first month,
Charlie Dixon and Wingard's goal kicking.

Boak hasn't been our best, but the fact he is no longer ripping games apart apparently means he's been putrid.

Boak hasn’t been at his best, but he’s nowhere near our 23rd best player.

He’s also the captain of a current contesting team, which must mean something.

Have you even watched him? He has been horrible on many occasions. No one expects him to tear games apart anymore, hence why he is playing a token HFF role, one that he is ridiculously unsuited to.

I’d just like to reiterate that I’m not anti-Boak. I love Trav and nothing would make me happier that seeing him lift the cup as Captain. But the bar appears to be incredibly low for him now. IMO his value to the team is as a two-way running mid, and if he can’t sustain that then he is a waste on a HFF. Better off playing Ebert there who can take a contested mark and is a threat in front of goal and bring someone like Atley in.

I can see the argument for Thomas out Watts, but gee I’d feel sorry for Lindsay if after watching Jake Neade retain his spot while spudding it up for a month, Lindsay comes in and offers exactly what we want from a small forward and then gets immediately dropped due to circumstance.

Watts v Marshall. Looks like a very hard choice.
FFS, Dixon, Watts and Marshall together constitute our three amigos. They should all be playing. Thomas played a good game and I'd be dropping Brad 'My eyesight needs checking, as I pick out the opposition multiple times each week' Ebert before him, but given a choice between Thomas and finally having our three KPF's all playing at once, it'll take me 0.0005 seconds to go with 'Dropped Thomas'.

Great win by the lads with some genuine headaches for the selectors. Not sure who gets a promotion but Trengove and Irra can’t be too far away.

Watts way too good for SANFL, will be interesting to see how many games they keep him down for.

Jack Watts would be the perfect forward in our team if we could move the ball forward with any system and hit up players with good kicks. However, this rarely ever happens so, at this stage, Lindsay Thomas is probably a more effective player to have in our side for when our haphazard kicks invariably aren't marked and the ball hits the deck.
