Browne is a very promising player. The problem he currently has is that Merrett has clearly impressed TRB in the preseason just gone and Browne got injured at the wrong time (even if only for a few weeks). On form and based on the roles he can play he is probably only a realistic chance of replacing Merrett, who would be extremely unlucky, and Baguley, although I don't know that Browne is the next best placed EFC player to shut opposition players down.

Based on the numbers I'd expect that Merrett's bubble will burst. At that point my guess is that Browne and Kavanagah will be competing for the opening (assuming that form or injury doesn't get the best of other players). Assuming that he has passed those few niggles Browne's future is very much in his own hands.

dunno what your definition of 'looked sharper' is, but mine is him not looking like he had a grand piano strapped to his back.
That's your opinion, and thats all well and good, but IMO he was actually one of our better players, rather than last year where he was always in the bottom 4-5 on the park.

17 touches, 2 marks, 5 tackles and a goal isn't bad going at all.

Jetta and Hardingham missed because Kommer and Merrett were hungrier to play through good pre-season form. It is up to Jetta and Hardingham to demand to be selected, on the back of very good form for the reserves. As it bloody well should be - because that demanding to be selected through good form is what Gumbleton has done.

Jetta's indecision going for goal is the real concern. Maybe he needs a month in the reserves based on finding his confidence alone.

Likely there will be more rotating of fringe players through the side this year to keep things fresh and avoid falling in a heap mid season when everybody has niggles. I dont see a need for it yet considering the week off but there is nothing wrong with keeping up hunger for spots. For me Jetta has to push Kommer out if he wants to play, dont see him competing for Merrett's spot. Will be interesting to see what happens with Browne this year, the recruitment of Goddard could make it tough for him to get in, signing him for only 1 year may come back to bite us if he wants to seek greener pastures at the end of the year.

Given the role Merrett filled, and assuming the plan is to continue pushing Zaharakis into a full-time midfield role, you would think a smaller forward type would need to come in purely to maintain team balance. Perhaps Jetta, or O'Brien, but pending fitness I'd think it most likely Winderlich returns without Kommer having to make way.

Makes sense fodzilla but I agree with what ant555 was saying about the future of small forwards being hard players who are just as suited to being rotated through the middle. In theory the focus will be moved onto adding even more midfield rotations to combat the cap on interchange.

I'm going to ignore Winderlich until the day he is selected in the side.

Too early for thread, but no changes if not necessary. If anything, Baguley out for Hardingham. That'd be it.

Lol @ OUT: Crameri (if injured)

the bloke seems to cops a knock and limps for a bit in every game he plays, gotta be one of the most durable players going around i reckon, unless he gets subbed outof a game injured, he's not injured..

Also has 2 weeks to get over it. He'll be fine.

Jetta just makes the team softer, until Jetta can play a game with Kommer like commitment he does not deserve a game.

There is no "hidden agenda" trying to disguise a dislike of players.

Simply just want the best 22 to be playing right now, regardless of the result.

There is no room for complacency in AFL so the old theory of not changing your side after a win is no longer applicable.

Dawes/Clark not playing there is simply no match up for Hooker next game and against freo on the wide open spaces. He can return when we play Collingwood (Lynch/Cloke)

People have short memories Browne is a gun, he is now a lock for best 22.

There is no denying Jetta just has to play.

Pretty much sums up my thought on the post.

The only change I'd consider is maybe Hurley out for either Gumby or Daniher, but the lack of marking could just as easily be because of the rain as poor form. However if it's a home game then playing Daniher would get more bums on seats which is a good thing.

With Davey playing well vs Crows, Jetta can stay in the VFL. I'd bring in Gumbleton (Crameri has been cleared and is set to play). I'd also play Hardingham for his milestone 50th game. But since we thrashed Crows, we don't need to make many changes. Two at most if we must.

Yes it's our first home game of the season :thumbsu:

Clark and Dawes will both play, along with Pederson
So much so that he's gone behind Merrett, O'Brien and Kavanagh in the pecking order
That's because he did look sharper. The only troll in this thread is you
Easily deniable

Not sure Clarke will play considering Noonan held him goalless in the VFL on the weekend.

Regardless of that, I agree. Proposals are a joke.

Melksham has to go out. He contributed nothing last season and started round 1 the same way. Jetta comes in to add a bit more speed and quickness and I would bring in NLM for Baugley who didn't do enough.

Out: Melksham, Bagley
In: Jetta, NLM

17 touches, 5 tackles and a goal is "contributing nothing"?
