I do, but only as a defender. The guy's career has been blighted by either getting injured at the worst possible time, or missing matches due to suspension for stupid things.

No denying that. But at the same time our rebound from D50 is diabolical, and Silva is arguably only a shade better kick than Dawson. Him playing would be disastrous IMO

Agreed. Silvagni is also too short to go with Petrie or Brown and not athletic enough to with Waite or a small. Defensively Dawson is in a different ball park to Silvagni. Dawson has probably had just as many bad games for freo as Silvagni has in the same period, if anything Silvagni has had more.

Silvagni is not the saviour. He should've been delisted years ago.

Part of the reason we can't rebound the ball is because our defenders can't beat their forwards one on one. I'm sick of seeing Sutcliffe monstered physically, Sheridan brushed aside deep in defensive 50. These two can move the ball outside 50 with precision when given time and space; let them "cheat" into space while the better one on one players win the ball back in contests. Ideally we take a turnover mark and those two stream to space for the receive kick. The ball is brought to ground inside our defensive 50 far too easily and we are left scrambling to get it out. We underestimate the utility of a strong defensive mark as the turnover.

Yep, so play the additonal tall intercept marker, and let the running backs do their job, run it.

Now where has this worked recently ... I don't know Collins that well, but you can't tell me he isnt a better kick than Marcus Adams ...

Id do what Hawthorn do to us with Hill. Just collapse on him when he has the ball. Position our fastest players near him, Hill, D.Pearce, Mayne and give him no space at all.

Hmm, sounds good in theory but;
1. have you seen how much ground he covers and how fast he does it? We can't exactly have a flock of players following him around waiting for him to get the ball and allowing others to have a free run. He's also extremely evasive and quick to release the ball whether at goal or to a team mate making it hard to "collapse" on him.
2. Unlike Hill, Harvey now spends the majority of his time in the forward line and none of the players you've mentioned play in defence. It'd be somewhat easier if he did play solely midfield.
3. If it was that simple surely we would've done it in the past.

I haven't seen much of him either but I'd be surprised if he was...I've seen a lot of Adams and he's quite good.

For real? Adams is a very suss kick. There was almost 5 or 6 times the whole house of cards nearly came down on Sunday because of his shocking kicking on the last line when they were flipping it round. In NAB 2 v Melb his kicking was laughable.

Can hoof it long sure, but who can't.

Point is, they've made it work. Collins by all reports can't kick either, but has weapons.

Silvagni unfortunately doesnt have any. Monstered by the guns and not good enough marking.

Looks he's by no means elite but he's very acceptable. I'd back him to hit a target over 8 or 10 of our regulars. Remember he was in his third game on Sunday and there was just a tad of pressure in the game.

I didn't see NAB 2 so can't comment but I've seen all our games and our defenders kicking has been mostly laughable this year too.

Ive seen Collins a couple of times and there is a clip from today on the Freo website with Collins highlights against East Perth. His kicking is a work in progress, not terrible and has shown improvement.

What I have seen and the clip shows it well is his strengths. He is very good one on one, rarely beaten, destroys the ball with his fist when needed and has a very good pair of mits - plucking some nice grabs.

I hope the ins are Crozier, Collins, Tucker and Griffin. As I've mentioned before we can pinch hit in the ruck with Johnson and Pearce.

You can raffle the outs - but my wish is that Suban is one of them. Pretty sure DeBoer will be another. Was almost comical when he was in the ruck.

Really? That's the reason to drop de Boer? Because he played as a ruckman, because there was no one available?
I get ya, but my read of it and having played a bit of footy myself, was that Lyon didn't know what else to do with him. We looked quite good early in the last with Johnson playing in the guts. The Deboer experiment didn't last long - about 5-10mins max and ended when he basically held Naita-Nothing and gave away a free kick. I didn't notice DeBoer at all in the last quarter.

Absolutely. People are talking about needing quick and skilled smalls to move the ball out of the D50, but underestimate how massive the loss of McPharlin is for our rebound. He would routinely take 10 marks and have 15-20 possessions, and was integral to kick starting our rebound. Very fast too, and could run off his man. Then it cascades down, pushing Johnson and Ibbo to weaker opponents and helping them take more intercept marks.

Make me sick to see the likes of Adams and McGovern running around for other clubs.

Being barely competitive in the ruck is a definite out for mine. [emoji14] [emoji23] [emoji23]

Chris Bond certainly gave the impression that the Match Committee was going to persevere with Mayne. I think Crozier is a lock for the team, so it will be interesting to see who comes out of the team for him.

I hope it's a good quality clash
Won't be if we're rocking the purple top and white shorts again
with plenty of highlights
I'm sure North Brent Harvey will have plenty
and no injuries
Unlikely but **** wouldn't that be nice.

Seriously though, stick around, always enjoy your reading your posts but don't expect much by way of robust discussion this time around :(

Was Bond interviewed? What did he say about our illustrious forward that has only kicked 1 goal in three games.

Completely agree. We need to bring in some of the skillful and fast kids. Nothing to gain out of playing guys like mzungu and suban because they arent going to get any better.

Also i think we need to change the way we draft, bring in guys with pace and foot skills like hawthorn did. Theyve proven u dont need early picks to build sustained success.
How much would we love a Josh Simpson with 15-20 games under his belt right now?
