Sandi, Gu and Mayne out.
Griff, Crozier and Mundy (if he is fit!) in.
If Silva is okay, you could make a case to play him on the bench and ruck him with Griff I guess. This would release AP to play forward or back, and would give us another defensive option if things go to crap.....

In - Croz, Griff, Tucker
Out - Sandi, Mayne, Suban

Send Mayne back and see if he can earn his spot on the list for next year, otherwise seeya later.
Absolutely agree with your comment re Mayne.

We need another tall defender against North. I'd like it to be Collins. And I'd like us to use Dawson in the ruck to give Griff a chop out.

Sandi and Mundy confirmed outs for next week so here's my changes:

Out: Sandilands, Mayne, Suban, De Boer, Mzungu
In: Griffin, Taberner, Crozier, Tucker, Grey

Put Grey in the back pocket and play Sutcliffe on the wing.
Taberner was worse than useless at Peel yesterday. Needs to stay In The WAFL. Agree with the other changes.

We need a guy to play on those medium talls (stringer, darling etc) I'd like to see if Mayne could be that guy.

RBT said in his presser that if the trend continued ie losing games then there would be a change in philosophy at selection. I think he and bond have misread the way the comp was headed. if you read between the lines of his presser it's the shocking skill induced turnovers that are killing us and maybe trying to improve certain individual's skill level is floggings a dead horse because these individual while being great foot soldiers aren't capable of the improvement required.
He was also asked what other youth should been played more. I'd love to answer the question for him! Grey and Hughes would be a good start! Particularly Hughes. If he's not an upgrade on sutcliffe! I think Suttcliff should get a stint on the wing. Your dead right, it's the personnel, not the game style. The thing I don't get, is how could they not have foreseen this, when many of us on here saw it coming a mile off! Ross has played it far too safe at the selection table, none of our seniors are being held accountable.

You were comparing Crozier to Colin Sylvia a few days ago, yesterday he was easily BOG and a certain starter next week. So forgive me if I don't take your opinion of Taberner too seriously either.

Problem as I see is that we are running out of skillful youngsters to bring in for the plodders so a couple might have to stay for the foreseeable future. But I'd go:

Out: Mundy, Sandi, Suban, Mzungu
In: Crozier, Griffen, Tucker, Taberner?

Main thing for me is that A.Pearce has to play defense, if Tabs has to come in to allow that then so be it. I do feel for Lyon atm, he's realized he has to change but the style of play hes gone with for the last couple of years has meant that half our squad is filled with solid role players who lack even basic skills. Just hope he keeps shifting them out over the season.

:rolleyes::rolleyes: here he go again without even been near to Mandurah.nobody do with a no show fan like you for peel.

I didnt know where to post this, so here will do! This is a great summation on the "Lyon doesnt play youth" things...From the horses mouth:
"Ross, this is the start to the season. Does that make you think more about team selection? For example playing the younger kids?

We felt Langdon and Weller played well tonight. However, there are only so many youngsters to choose from. We have lost a few of our kids over the years.

Josh Simpson, then Jayden Pitt who had some heart issues, Michael Apenes has been injured for two years and Harly Balic has a wrist injury . There are some contributing factors as to what’s underneath. The rest we have played a fair bit, Sutcliffe, Neale, Sheridan and Pearce. Basically the ones we’ve got we’ve been playing.

Connor Blakely has been the obvious one, he has had a bad big toe and he’ll return. As always we pick a team that has integrity. I don’t think the youth are missing out, contrary to the popular opinion."

I did not compare Crozier to Silvia, I said that in a couple of games his body language reminded me of Sylvia - big difference. I also said I have always rated Crozier and hoped he found form at Peel, which he has and deserves a crack at Freo.

Unlike you I actually go and watch the Peel games and don't just come on here acting like the big hero with opinions based on what? Stats?

You'll forgive me if I don't take a serial brick thrower seriously. We all know what you are and remember your epic melt Pokers.

Your opinion means jack to me.

I reckon, well I'm hoping, that from Ross' presser Mayne is finally going to be dropped and Crozier will come in him for him. We cannot continue carrying Suban and Mzungu either. Suban was absolutely costly but throughout the game all three had lost us the game at some stage.

I'd like to see:
Out: Sandi (inj :(), Mayne, Suban, Mzungu
In: Griffin, Crozier, Tucker, Grey

Tucker might genuinely have a chance of debuting since he was an emergency this week, has played well in the WAFL, good skills and also from Victoria so Ross might give him a debut in front of his family

De Boer to make way once Mundy comes back

In - Croz, Griff, Tucker
Out - Sandi, Mayne, Suban

Send Mayne back and see if he can earn his spot on the list for next year, otherwise seeya later.
This has to happen. Mayne is just sooooo depressing to watch. He has the yips and even his pressure acts are minimal.

I couldn't. Suban (and DeBoer) were picked ahead of Lachie Neale in the 2013 grand final. A game we didn't win. Who knows how it might have turned out differently if Neale played a full game. FWIW in 2013, Neale averaged 26 possessions a game in the last 6 weeks of the H/A season, only to get dropped to sub for the GF when he had a quiet one in the prelim.

Suban has spudded it up his whole career and the fact that he still gets picked over youth proves what opposition supporters say about Lyon and youth.

Yes - and it's not like now where we dont have the available personnel to replace all the plodders; at vast stretches over 2014-15 there were youngsters fighting hard to break into the team that were stifled in favour of Suban, Mayne et Al. And now this season is looking almost like a write off as we have to play catch up.

I'm in the RTB camp of previous selection. Even though Suban, Zu and De Boer and others pretty much have 0 value they still offer more than Weller, Langdon, Grey, Tucker and Crozier at this point of time. Our young players are currently not good enough to offer more than a few positive glimpses and will be our worst players on the ground.

If we go in and play them all we will lose, and likely by quite a bit and might struggle to win a game all season. If people on here think it's a short term solution it's not, it's rebuilding and it's about 2017 and beyond (that I'm okay with and ready for).

How on earth do Suban, Mzungu and De Boer offer more than Weller, Langdon etc right now???

The old timers are so poor with their disposal they are actually costing us games. You could add Mayne to that list too. Suban had 9 disposals, Mzungu had 12 and DeBoer had 8. Weller had 11 and Langdon had 9. Weller had two shots on goals for two behinds and Langdon kicked a goal. Old plodders had the same amount of possessions as the young blokes for no score and actually negatively impacted our game by turning the ball over consistently. We need to persist with Weller and Langdon etc. They are our future and have plenty of upside. We know what we are going to get with the old plodders. They are not going to improve. They are going to keep costing us games.

Where do you guys put the likes of Sutcliffe and Sheridan at the moment?
They're a cut above the plodders, but can be really costly for us at times.

For me Sutcliffe is the sort of players who really shines when the entire team is in form - it's why he featured so much in 2013. Mind you, that may have been because we had an in-form McPharlin, Johnson, Dawson, Ibbotson, Duffield and Spurr working around him - so all he really needed to be was the foot-soldier at the right place at the right time. Being a full-time small-defender doesn't seem to be a strength, as found out in the last couple of weeks he'll get beaten everyday by a strong small/mid.

Likewise for Sheridan, except that maybe he's being played even more out of position than Sutcliffe - he'd do much better on the wing.
