Agreed.
Silvagni must come in I think given Norf play Waite, Petrie and Big Boner Brown.
Yes I believe this too. If Silva is in you could make a case to play him on the bench and ruck him with Griff or stay in defense and pick up one of their big blokes....Dawson on Petrie, Johnno on Waite and Silva on Brown.
For me:
Ibbo/Dawson/Spurr.
Silva/Johnno/Tommy
Sutty/Hilly/D.Pearce.
Weller/AP/Crozier
Son-Son/Pav/Ballas.
Ruck: Griff/Fyfe/Neale.
Bench: Barlow, Langdon, Mayne, Grey or Tabs, or Deboer or Collins.....I Dont know!!!

I'd play AP on Brown, Jonno up forward. We need another small defender added so that we can contain Harvey, Higgins and the diver so I'd take Grey out of your bench suggestions.
And I actually think De Boer would be handier this week than Mayne. At least MDB can stop a Del Santo or someone. (I can't believe I'm saying that)

Wouldn't mind seeing us go with Collins and using AP up forward. Dawson to be 2nd ruck. Goldstein will monster Griffin most likely and don't think we can go both him & Hannath as they are similar players (not overly mobile)
Out - Mayne Sandi Mzungu Suban
In - Crozier Griffin Collins Tucker

Isn't Silvagni injured?

Against North's tall forward line I think we should bring in another tall defender. So Collins gets the nod after consistantly performing at Peel.

Mayne needs time at Peel to regain confidence and learn how to kick goals. Please for the love of god drop the routine. So Crozier comes in. Tucker in to bring up the skill level and Suban never again plays for Freo. Unlike Mayne, Suban has never show to be good at anything. There is still a slim chance Mayne might remember how to kick goals once he gets his confidence back.

Out: Sandi, Mayne, Suban, Mzungu
In: Griff, Crozier, Collins, Tucker

Spurr - Dawson - Collins
Sherro - Johnson - Ibbo
Hill - Barlow - D Pearce
Walters - A Pearce - Crozier
Ballas - Pav - Weller

Griff - Fyfe - Neale

Sutty - Langdon - Tucker - De Boer

My thoughts exactly mate

We could just play Ballantyne in the ruck against Goldstien and hope the rest of our blokes can shark his taps. The ruck is going to be big problem for us. Ballas can just subtly elbow him in the nuts each contest.

It's more around the ground that Goldstein could kill us. Griffin is a decent enough ruckman not to be embarassed in the ruck. But I doubt he'll be able to go with Goldstein if he drifts forward.

Might not be popular but
Out: Ibbo
In: Collins or Silva

Nothing wrong with what Ibbo has done this season but I prefer MJ as the loose man in defense and intercept mark.

Why do we persist with playing Jonno as a key defender? His best role is the Josh Gibson floating 3rd man up approach.

It was always an issue last year when we lost McPharlin for periods of time and Jonno would need to become more accountable. Collins/Snos have to play to free Jonno up.

We play out best footy with him rebounding the footy all day rather than being tied up chasing Jack Darling types around on the lead

Yeah he'll get pantsed
Why not play two ruckman then? North have some serious height to contend with, and even playing the one
ruckman we have not gained any advantage over the opposition.
Surely Hannath would be better than A Pearce, Dawson, Deboer in the ruck?

Now match Hannath and Griffin against Goldsetin and Brown...two blocks of cement v big marking mobile rucks...

We're already two slow.
If it was Clarke I'd agree

Hannath is so slow he makes Sandi look like Cyril. Hannath isn't even doing well for Peel.

Play Jack and you start with 21 players.

We need a guy to play on those medium talls (stringer, darling etc) I'd like to see if Mayne could be that guy.
Mayne trained with the the backmen during the preseason .Last year he was moved into the backline during games but he wasn't that good .

I am thinking the same in regards to alex pearce.I think if we see him as a backman in the future then thats where he should be playing all year. Using him as a swing man will just stuff up his confidence.

If they think he could be a forward ruckman then play in that role.

The coaches need to make up their minds quickly and settle AP in his best position for the whole season.

I agree with your comments in relation to Mayne. He is actually getting the pill and playing better than some of our players out there but is killing our momentum when he misses the goal in the forward 50.

Simple decision for match committee, can we put Mayne somewhere else on the ground where he can contribute or shall we drop him and get him to work on his goal kicking confidence. At the moment I would favour dropping Mayne and you never know he might come back refreshed and confident. Mayne can play but his in the horrors in front of goal.

Why? The Kangaroos do it, Petrie is the one that provides a chop out. We need 1 ruck and some talls (Collins and Silvagni). I'd even prefer Silvagni up forward to bring Taberner back in, Tabs simply lacks the will to compete at AFL level.
After Seeing Sandi as sole ruck and injured... no thanks. We had Barlow in the ruck vs NicNat at one point. Might as well bring Clarke in if fit.

With all the talk being about who should come in and who needs to be dropped I think some people here need to be a bit more rational with their team selections. Ross is not going to make wholesale changes , he will only replace players that are injured or those that don't match up against the team they are playing .
The main thing here is that RTB hates to loose and he will be doing everything that he can to get the best team out on the ground .

I agree with the posters that have stated that Taberner is not playing AFL level footy . Mayne is not impacting the score board . Suban had a shocking last quarter . Recycling players is not the answer to going forward BUT have a look at the injury list and you will notice just how many best 22 players are unavailable due to injury .
This is not our year plain and simple .Bennell ,Mundy ,Morabito ,Clarke and Sandi are huge outs . Griffin is workman like not top shelf ,Hannath is clogging up the list .
This game is at Etihad Stadium so I am going to throw in the big spanner and suggest that Pav won't travel so that he is fit to play against Carlton .
My team for this week is
B Spurr Dawson Johnson
HB Ibbotson A Pearce Sutcliffe
C D Pearce Neale Sheridan
HF Walters Silvagni Langdon
FF Ballantyne Collins Weller
Ruck Griffin , Hill Fyfe
Inter Suban , Tucker , DeBoer , Barlow
I think that RTB and Bond will again go with one ruckman in Griffin but instead of A Pearce doing ruck work Dawson will cover in the backline and Collins will be the 3rd man up in the forward line . Alex isn't strong enough to do the boundary throw ins but can do a couple of bounce downs .
I know people are going to say that here I go again with the Silvagni position but he will give it everything and get the ball onto the ground for the small forwards like he has done before .Collins maybe out of position for some but he has a great pair of hands and strong as an ox and is a natural reader of the ball in flight .If He struggles then Alex can go forward and Collins can go back .
The comments about Suban's last quarter are correct but he did a power of work in and under in the first 3\4's .I am prepared to blame the errors on workload rather than lack of football brain or skills .He does a truckload of work in the packs which is why RTB and the coaches pick him . DeBoer gets to keep his place only because Boomer needs a tough nut to keep him quiet .

Going to lose the ruck anyway, I wouldn't mind if neither Clarke or Griffin come in, they don't offer much around the ground either, I'd rather win around the ground than with taps which aren't even a definite advantage anyway

De Boer better take a towel out with him because Boomer would give him a bath! Not only quicker but far too clever.

I can't blame you for looking outside the box because little is working, but for mine, if we went in with that forward line our disaster game against Adelaide (when we kicked 1 goal for the game) would be in danger of being lowered. Also, can't agree that Mora is a massive out because he was never an "in" he is purely a beautiful bonus if his body allows him to play AFL again.
