Rucks are a special category. You can only have one #1 ruck. As much as I'd like to, you can't just drop Sutcliffe or Sam Gray for Lycett and think the structure will all work itself out.

Right now I think Peter Ladhams is easily in our best 22 players. But I don't think he's in our best team.

I would argue for Lycett/Ryder rucking and Ladhams at CHF.

Ryder Dixon Rozee
R Gray Ladhams Marshall

Experiment... Ladhams is the best ruckman on our list. By a fair way. I said it in some Maggie game threads, but he is grundy like in the ruck. He stays in the team now, it's his spot. Like Collingwood did with grundy, just leave him in, develop, and watch him dominate the comp in time.
No, no. Ladhams is a great prospect and I love him, but he is not the “best ruckman on our list”. Our best ruckman is undoubtedly Lycett. The selectors must come to the realisation soon that we cannot play Lycett, Ryder and Ladhams in the same side. So if Lycett is now fully recovered he must be in our side. Basically, Lycett must be the first name put on the team list, then it must be the choice between either Ryder or Ladhams. I don’t like their job!!

So Sutcliffe is a lock next week?
Hmmm yeah I thiñk so.

I know his stats weren't great. But I think he is adding a point of difference that has made our forward line function. He has to do more don't get me wrong but from what he has done, I am willing to persist a little more.

No I understand what you're saying....but dropping him right now with the way he is playing (regardless of opponents) would be a massive massive gamble .... Ryder is probably the one keeping Lycett out and he probably be the one to go next year. Tough call I a guess.

but I agree with you that we need to find a way to get Lycett in.

Unchanged.

Ken only made a last minute change this week because he had to. That said, Bonner worries me a bit and if Burton is fit I would swap Bonner for Burton.

I cannot see Ken making major changes to a side that has won well two weeks in a row.

We have won two on the trot, we are on a bit of a roll, so minor tweaks only. If there is no room for Lycett that is the way it is.

Butters or Farrell for S Gray. Don't tweak a previous winning side much from last marvel win. But gee, Essendon look to be a poor benchmark

Yeah I reckon Essendon may open the door for us and the Cows to make the eight. Essendon have to play the Dockers at Optus and Collingwood at the MCG. The Bombers could conceivably loose both which would leave them on 11 wins with a percentage in the low 90's.

Prefer us and the Dogs to make it....

He was very good, I agree. But beating Zac Clarke and whoever the fu** Hayden McLean is is a long long way away from Goldstein and Sandilands over the next two weeks. At this stage Lycett has runs on the board against the quality rucks of the competition and Ladhams doesn't, and with a finals spot on the line I'd prefer to go with the guy with those runs on the board.

i say give Ladhams a chance to show he can deal with Goldstein/Sandilands before writing him off just because we have to win games, that is peak ken Hinkley selection policy normally blasted out of the park around here. we know what Lycett can do already. It's not like Ladhams going in solo either, Ryder is around.

the difference between Ladhams and Lycett shouldn't be enough for us to drop this game if he's even inferior.

Ladhams last 2 games stack up 100% to what Lycett does with Ryder in the team. Lycett's best games bar 1 for us have been with Ryder out.

Playing him against Todd Goldstein next week on the back of good performances against the worst ruckman in the league and a team that doesn't even have a recognised ruckman is a gamble too. Like, I know he played really well over the last two weeks, but it's not like Lycett wouldn't have played just as well if not better in those circumstances.

If we were out of finals contention then **** it, give him a couple of real tests over the next two weeks and see if he sinks or swims, but with that finals spot on the line we should be going with the guy with runs on the board who was desperately unlucky to be dropped in the first place. I'd go as far as to pull Lycett out of the SANFL today to make sure he's cherry ripe for next week.

Nah, 'peak Ken Hinkley selection policy' is bringing in your Cam Sutcliffe/Jake Neade/Kane Mitchell types who we know what they offer and it's not much. Lycett is a very good footballer and the best ruckman on our list. He should be in the team.

I'm not upset that Ladhams got a go over the last couple of weeks against non-existent ruck divisions, but this is the real stuff now. North are no pushovers, Goldstein is in excellent form at the moment, and Goldstein versus a bloke playing his 5th game could absolutely be the difference next Saturday if that's the team we go with.

With about 20 seconds left on the clock yesterday, Sutcliffe's stats read 5 disposals and 1 goal. They would've stayed that way if not for a late Jordan Dawson ****up. He is absolutely not a 'lock'. Carn.

Lycett/Ladhams is my preferred setup. If we're honestly considering letting Ryder go at the end of the season then we should absolutely risk upsetting him rather than Lycett.

where do people get this? we've done this once and we scored 5 goals for the game and got smashed in the clearances.

both seem the sort of ruck that thrives on volume of work

Was that why we lost the game? I don't think so.

We only had 2 talls up forward (Dixon and Ladhams). There was no Marshall or Howard. There was no Hoff either.

Sutcliffe was pretty anonymous for a while there but 2 goals is a good return. He doesn’t make any mistakes either so probably could stay in the side unless Farrell kicks 5 goals or something and forces selection.

His 2 goals were from Dixon’s free and took the advantage from 20 metres out directly in front and the other was after the siren from 20 out on a slight angle when the game was over.

Its easy to not make any mistakes when you have 6 disposals for the match...

Sutcliffe has been good the last two weeks, I much prefer him in a forward role. Just can't shake the feeling though that he is another one of those Cam O'Shea/Kane Mitchell flawed journeymen plodders that Ken can't help but keep picking until they conclusively s**t themselves on the big stage and cost us a game or two.

I'd rather he comes out for Butters, but otherwise Sam Gray hasn't been delivering much recently either, and could make way. Hopefully Burton is back, a decent upgrade on Bonner and makes our defensive 6 rock solid. Howard maybe needs to come in to stand Ben Brown.

Jonas absolutely destroyed Brown when he was in red hot form last time we played North at Etihad.
