We used to go to the Tattersalls and Anglers Club . Had a license to stay open all hours ,so Thursday night there were lots of AFL players particularly Carlton players who'd head from the pub straight there.

They had 2 billiard tables and lots of deranged alcoholics or as I look back now lonely people.

The door at the front had a tiny peephole where whoever went to the door decided whether to let you in or not. If you were a regular you got a key.

Geez they were fun times. And you knew all the footy gossip. It's actually laughable what everyone got up to. Funny thing it didn't seem to overly affect how some of these guys played.

The Musician’s Union in Wellington Street, St.Kilda. Cost $5.00 to become a member and you could buy takeaway cans at all hours.

He used to drink like a fish and then sweat like there was no tomorrow. His dad used to drink at Naughtons and moved when Percy ( as you would expect ) bought his own pub. The little pub... the Astor ?? In North Carlton.

Lions by lots. Lester to continue to dominate. He’ll end up a 200 game player at the Lions. I tipped this. He’s played 183 - seven more and we start the countdown.

I think we'll decimate North. First off they're not much good. Secondly with all the media crap I think getting away somewhere different will do the guys the world of good.

I'm concerned that we're 3 games adrift of some good teams but to me this season looks very even and as long as we can get into the 8 ,preferably 5th or 6th , it then all depends what sort of shape we're in in September.

The 3 games after the North game will tell us a lot and if we could win 2 of those then I'm still carrying some hope for 2024. But what we need are no more injuries.

All true. If we can beat Melbourne the following week and get over Geelong the ship will be on an even keel. I was going to drive up to Canberra with my young fella for the GWS game, but I’m not sure at the minute. My fallback position is to stay in Melbourne and go to see Nick Cave, because I have two tickets to his show that weekend.

True. He deserves it though. The ultimate example of a player who is resilient and focused on being his best. He is also a bloody good footballer. He had really refined his craft as a defender and is in career best form.
