I don't think there are many players in the SANFL knocking the door down right now, except perhaps Atkins and maybe Kerridge (though he's probably a little undercooked).

The two worst performers over the last few weeks have been VB and Mackay. Both should go this week. Wright can go in the following week when we start getting players back or into form. Kerridge, Grigg, Sloane would all be in contention here.

Dropping VB, Mackay and Wright simply won't happen this week. I want all three phased out this season, and want two gone this week, but in reality I only think VB will get dropped

Out VanBerlo
In Atkins
Sub MacKay
This for me too.

Hopefully getting a week to reflect and focus will help.

When we were primed we did very well. When we were emotionally exhausted, there was no more to give. The emotional scenes at the end showed the extra burden they players were carrying.

I noticed Knight's run. We need to keep him in the rest of the season.

We can't forget that Sloane's and Crouch's horror injury runs are having a deep impact too. We need to keep it together until Sloane gets back.

And regroup next year with hopefully a full strength team.

In
Atkins, Shaw

Out
VB, Mackay

Shaw to take Hendo's role in defence and Hendo to play Mackay's role.

I hope Lyons gets another good go soon too. Not this sub stuff. He needs to play in the middle

I'm expecting to be disappointed again. The best I'm hoping for is VB to sub. I've said it before and I doubt it's changed, our football dept doesn't have the strength to replace guys like VB or Dmac with a junior player from the 2's. If Sloane was back from injury, it'd be a chance. But a Noble led system will not allow VB to be replaced by players like Atkins.

Watching the SANFL game yesterday, and as you say there were no standouts to play AFL the next week.

Against the Port Magpies Lever, Knight and to a certain extent Hendo were showing they deserve to be playing AFL this week. Atkins played well, but after seeing some people comment about his lack of two way running, I now see why he is still playing SANFL.

Yesterday Atkins was probably the standout for us, but did not have the game that demands he play AFL next week.

That's part of it. The other is guys who are in the AFL team and continually not warranting selection. VB has been so bad of late that he needs to go out and be replaced with next available best. Whoever replaces him would likely have to go out of their way to be more of a liability.

I agree VB is giving nothing at the moment. Just don't think our best SANFL player yesterday is a good change for him.
VB for Cheney is the most natural change for me this week. Would also suggest Lyons for VB.

How many more weeks is Sloaney out for? He would have been great for us last night, I bet he hated being in the stands and not out there with his mates.

I would have liked to have seen more changes this week, but I think we might be pushing it a bit, with underdone SANFL players and the events of this week. So even though I mentioned VB as the only out and DMac to sub next week, is because I expect DMac and Wright to be in the gun in the very near future. Atkins this week in, Lyons, Kerridge and Sloane to come in over the next few weeks. We need to settle on what our best team going forward is for 2016 and beyond by Round 16/17 if all are available. No more CEY as sub or any shit like it.

I'm more saying that right now we know VB isn't up to it. With Atkins we might think he's probably not up to it, but there's the potential for him to step up and there's a development benefit. My view is that we hold VB accountable for the fact he's clocked 190 odd games and is presently not close to being of value to the team. Step 1, drop VB. Step 2, work out who replaces him and what other moves might be required to cover his role. There's no present or future benefit wasting a it in the 21 on him right now.

Wrong way to look at it, selection should be how can we make the side better. Is there a player who can improve on "fine"?
Wright - 16 touches, 4 tackles, 1 goal, 1 inside 50, 2 clearances, De 56%
(plus a season of Meh)

2 Top AFL listed from the SANFL (already assuming VB is goneski)

Rory Atkins: 29 disposals, eight marks, six inside 50ms, five clearances, one goal
Sam Kerridge: 23 disposals, eight clearances, five tackles, two inside 50ms

We all know Kedge can play AFL and the Rat deserves a shot.

Change has to be
Out:VB, Wright
In:Ratkins, Kedge

Only thing I would want Atkins to improve upon would be his defensive running. When we don't have the ball, he doesn't run to get into the correct postion or apply that pressure and he will get found out in the AFL.

In close tackling is good and applied pressure when the ball is in his area but he doesn't run as hard as he should when the team gets a fast break or ball transition.

In a defensive first team attitude; this could be hurting him right now.

...

Lyons has been BoG almost every game he's played.

That's why I think he should come in. I personally think that at SANFL level you don't feel the repercussions of poor defensive efforts as much as you do at the top level. If he plays in the showdown he will get a taste of what it's like in a faster paced environment and also understand better how not being defensively minded can let his team down and how he would be the weak link in that regard. Will help him long term

Yeah sorry forgot about him, he was the travelling emergency so he didn't play SANFL this week. He'd be a chance to come in for a similar player, just a shame he's slow and we have many slow inside mids

Good. Let him play and be found out and learn what it takes. It's better than treading water with some of the players we have now.

I agree but it would take a massive change in how the club has been thinking. Not just this year but many years before.

It would almost be accepting bottoming out.

Anyone know what happened with Lever last night? They said suspected jaw fracture on the radio for a while there.

He had a head knock in the 4th quarter; he went off with an eye gash to his eye brow.

But can not remember any jaw fracture.

Excellent thinking outside the square , I like these
moves ...massive sink or swim opp for Shaw but we gotta find out by end of year
