I wish we could get excited about our next game ;/.
It's a bit like that. I think I'm going to concentrate on the drafting and trading side of things for the rest of the year.

I am not sure we can make any changes this week barring injuries. To scruitinise anyone's performance under those circumstances is unfair imo. Don't get me wrong I am happy with some of the mentioned changes but think it's a week to give everyone a gold pass.
Thommo is a showdown specialist. Even when he's 90 and in a wheel chair his selection's a no-brainer.Thommo was shocking but obviously unprecedented circumstances. Some perform (Danger), some don't.
But the clincher for me to give him another shot is his Showdown last year was fantastic…I'm hoping for another vintage display.
IMO this is why we were smashed. Different circumstances in the middle and our 1st and 3rd qtrs are a better indication of how things could have been.Correct.
One of the commentators mentioned that we set up as if we would win the tap, and we weren't doing that so why aren't we setting up defensively was the question.

Exactly. Watching the game I said to mates "relax we always start at 3-nil down". Too bad we didn't finish the job.Trade in anyone who can help stop us conceding the first three goals of each game. Don;t know about anyone else, but I'm at the point where I now assume the other team will get a good start against us.
We're certainly rendering the Immunity Card rule obsoleteTrade in anyone who can help stop us conceding the first three goals of each game. Don;t know about anyone else, but I'm at the point where I now assume the other team will get a good start against us.

Correct.

There is always a reason why we can't drop underperforming players.
I'm not dropping VB because he was terrible on the weekend (and he was), I'm dropping him because he's been terrible all year.

Oppostion teams just waltz out of the centre square every week.
And before you know it, we are 3-4 goals down.
This is were I feel Thommo is letting the team down, he just doesn't get the ball enough from the centre with the amount of time he spends in there. And if the oppostion get the ball, he cant catch them or put any defensive pressure on at all.
I hope Lyons gets a go soon, I think we would improve if he started in the middle, just give it a go
Thommo is 4th in the entire AFL for highest average centre clearances. He's also 3rd in the AFL for average general clearances with the 4th highest disposal efficiency of the top ten clearance getters.
I'm not having a go at maxlily, but I'm mighty sick of the ignorance of this board at times, with the utter rubbish and ill-informed opinions about just how slow, bad and inefficient Thompson is and how he prevents our future players from getting experience yadda yadda yadda ****ing yadda.
Thank you. The end.
What is his win loss ratio like?Thommo is a showdown specialist. Even when he's 90 and in a wheel chair his selection's a no-brainer.
You have less options for the future if you don't continue to implement changes.I really hope people aren't continuing to believe the false dichotomy that experience equals short-term success.
Just because we are in the race for finals does NOT mean you don't drop very poorly performing senior players for promising rookies. Sure, the long game is most important but I also believe replacing VB, Wright, Mackay with Atkins, Lyons, Martin/Kerridge makes us a better side next week as well as next year!!
Could we go with a back line rotation of Talia, Hartigan, Lever, Shaw, Cheney, Laird, Brown. Is there enough run/rebound there?
I reckon Shaw and Lever will provide more rebound than Mackay and Brown combinedNo. Hartigan, Lever and Shaw are fighting for two spots

Really interested now that Sam Shaw has put together a few weeks of footy without snapping in half. Did not even have him on the radar at all.

Henderson further up the field - wing or roaming half forward. Possibly in Wright's role, who then becomes sub.
Smith moves up into van Berlo's position.
Ins: Cheney, Shaw
Outs: van Berlo, Mackay
Wright sub, CEY on.
Not like for like changes but rather a bit of a shuffle.
Henderson upfield to the wing would be good, even if he is pushing back into defensive holes (which a wing needs to)…but I don't want him playing as a defender!Really interested now that Sam Shaw has put together a few weeks of footy without snapping in half.
