Spud Brown has got to go. I've been saying it all year. Nothing has changed.

Mate it's not happening, we don't have a better option. Hes way out of form but replacing him with Mitch Brown, Weids or throwing teenager JVR to the wolves isn't going to do shit. If any of them play, it has to be alongside BBB

Hell BBB kicked more goals (1) and took almost as many marks (5) on Thursday night than Weid has in his last 3 AFL games togther (0goals, 6 marks- albeit in a different position for 1 game and a bit).
And he took more marks than any of our other forwards too. Even Max Gawn couldn't get a mark on Thursday night - and Brown got 5.

I agree with you with bringing in JVR at some point, but there's no way he's doing it by himself. It has to be alongside BBB - even then it's risky, he's still very young and undersized.

We've got some good leading forwards in BBB and Fritsch, there's clearly a forward connection issue that we need to work on before we shuffle the deckchairs in the forward line.

We just don't have a contested marking forward that's ready (other than Tmac maybe).

But I'd have no qualms with Browns game if he actually brought the ball to ground in contests or stuck his knee in opposition backs. But more often than not he just gets outmarked.

Hes literally never done this though, always been a mark on the lead type of forward for a reason, coz hes shit when it comes to contesting. Thats my point. We aren't using him right.

I know it's not happening. but it's what I would do. We may not have a better option, but there's no way in hell that JVR would be worse. No way is JVR coming in and averaging worse than 7.4 possessions, 0.85 goals, 0.7 tackles, 3.4 marks. These are Browns averages in his last 7 games. I don't care how bad the delivery is, in 2 hours of football this is terrible across a long sample.

Personally, I don't agree with you when you say BBB is a good leading forward. he is in fact, a poor forward, who is a poor mark and is a vfl level footballer this season. I agree that the solution isn't obvious, but it's why the focus needs to be on picking one up in the trade period or hitting the draft and picking up Cadman, Lemmey, Matt Jefferson etc. People complain about the forward line yet take no interest in the solution. The solution is in the next draft so I'm always a bit surprised why people aren't interested in following the u18 champs and the draft. It's where our next premiership lies.

Im very interested in solutions, have even said id give JVR a game coz why the fk not at this point. I watch Casey most weeks. I just cant be ****ed watching under 18's honestly. Will do my scouting when the season ends.

Back to solutions, i dont want us to make a Lobb or McStay type move for the sake of it thinking that will solve everything, we need a sizeable upgrade. Swing for the fences and if you cant land a big name get a kid in the draft or trade for an under 23 with some upside from another club who hasn't peaked yet.

Id trade Brown for a 5th round pick with us paying half his salary if need be at the end of the season if we want to continue with this current METHod and shambles of a gameplan. Hes pretty much worthless to us under current conditions.

If you're gonna suggest JVR a direct replacement for Brown, there is a chance he could play as bad as that. The kids gonna be good, but he'll absolutely struggle playing Browns "role".
For comparison, Weids has better stats than JVR in the VFL , but is still struggling to do better than Brown.

Honestly I'd love JVR to come in at some point, as long as he plays alongside Brown in the same forward line.

If you couldn't see that Brown was a good leading forward in 2021 , and the first 2 months of 2022 , then I don't know what to tell ya. He's horribly out form, and it's not excusable but surely we can fix or forward connection and get him back into form

2021 is 2021. it's irrelevant to this season. We're also not the same team as 2021. He has been horrible in Rounds 9,10,11,12,13,15,16 and 17. How many chances does this guy get. If he had been dropped 6 weeks ago maybe he would've actually fought a bit harder when coming back into the team. If you're averaging what he's averaging then that is work ethic.

Look i agree with some of what you're saying but He didn't and wont get dropped because we don't have a better option, like I said before. We've just gone around and around.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I see us hitting the draft solely for rucks and forwards for the next 2-3 years. That's how poor our depth is in these spots. It's not ideal because we'll have to reach for key forward/ruck options in the draft thus not getting good value at each pick. This will also put out other positions at risk in a couple of years.

Would be crazy to drop Brown for JVR, the last thing you need on debut as a key tall is the best defender on you.

If JVR plays it will surely be as third tall, hopefully with Brown pushing further up the ground where he actually has been taking a few marks
what's the worst that can happen? he gets outmarked at most contests like Brown currently does? How could JVR be worse? I think there's probably 50 country footballers that could currently perform better than Brown at the moment.

How bad does his form need to be where we start celebrating 10 touches, 5 marks and a goal.

It's like banging your head against a wall, some people around here just don't get it.

It's not rocket science - you play to a guy's strengths, not his weaknesses. It's like putting Lever 1:1 with their best forward in the goalsquare every week and wondering why he is being beaten and not intercept marking.

Ben Brown is not synonymous with our issues as a team. It's more about style and system than personnel.

what's the worst that can happen?
He gets absolutely mauled, kicks one behind, loses confidence which stalls his development, and we drop the four points we would have otherwise had with 10 touches, 5 marks, and a goal from Benny Brown, resulting in the Melbourne Demons missing out on a Top 4 finish and travelling first week of finals only to lose by 1 point in a nail-biter.

Or something to that effect.

This sounds terrible... #FistedForever

Becomes a lightning rod for supporter's angst. Gets accused of being a lazy footballer (sometimes with due cause). Starts a swimwear brand. Gets traded to Port Adelaide. Gets embroiled in a text message scandal. Gets a serious injury. Never really recovers. Retires early. Leaves the scene of a car crash. Etc. Etc. Etc.

I'm sure I've seen this movie before... Didn't it have a happy ending?

Bring in all the talls and watch oppo defences struggle to contain us.

Big Brenny Brown! Weidles! Medium Mitchy Brown! JVR! TMac on a scooter! James Sellar! Paul Johnson at FF! Allen Jakovich. Paul Wheatley on a lead looking 5cm taller than he actually is. Brad Miller. Liam Hulett. Majak Daw. And re-sign Luke Jackson while we're at it!

As opposed to Ben Brown being mauled? As opposed to Ben Brown being absolutely invisible in our 3 consecutive losses? If anything, JVR would be watching the seniors being disgruntled looking at Ben Browns form and questioning why the club thinks he isn't better than that.

And why would you say we would have got 10, 5 marks and a goal from Ben Brown when he averages far less than that the last 7? Like I said earlier, 7.4 possessions, 0.85 goals, 0.7 tackles, 3.4 marks is what Ben Brown averages in the last 7 weeks. I guarantee JVR is better than that. significantly.

Mate there's so many posts explaining why it's a poor idea to throw JVR to the wolves and you've just ignored all of them .

Anyway a few here actually do want JVR to play at some point, but to be a direct replacement for BBB is just laughable.

Give it a rest. Did Ben Brown mug your uncle or something?

Hang on, I've worked it out. Your Sam Kekovic from the Australian Meat Lobby trying to discredit BBB and all those woke pansy un-Australian vegans so you can sell more lamb chops next Australia Day!

Based on watching us on TV , it seems our mids have no idea where to kick it forward as they don't know where the forwards are going to lead , and our forwards have no idea where to lead because they don't know where the mids are going to kick it . Rest assured Online crew , if it doesn't happen this year , we have a premiership winning list (hopefully) intact so i I think, next year may be a cracker . i do not expect us to flick a switch and it will all be like last year , this year feels like we just are hanging on , with no experience of how to deal with a flag winning season . No matter what happens from now on , we aren't North !!
