Lecras for Masto - no issue
Priddis for Redden - no real complaint, Redden was okay but nothing special last week.
Hurn for Cole - Cole a little unlucky but he hasn't been drop dead amazing. Hurn will always come in if fit.
Lycett for Butler - Injury.

Not sure you can be that mad about this.

Structurally I see it as
Priddis for Redden
Hurn for Butler
LeCras for Masten with Karpany moving up the ground and Lecca playing closer to goal

I recognise those words individually, but can they be used in that order?

I reckon we are too tall as well.... however

I would rather have one less runner and combat the silver service from Ryder.

No point having an extra mid if all they are doing is chasing tail all game.

Simmo backing Eric to play small if required.

Shep v Gray: The Return Bout is going to be interesting.

However I daresay one of Petrie or Vardy get dropped the following week.

For all those that think Lecras will not be playing, Sportbet think differently. They even have him as top Eagle to be first goal scorer. I would not be placing any of my money on this as he hasn't scored a goal since 6th May.

There again, these organisations are very profitable so either suckering us into loving a star of yesteryear or they know what we are fearing and that he will be a starter on Sunday.

Melt away.

I like those odds on Petrie

I don't really understand going in with Vardy, Petrie, Barrass, McGovern, Lycett, Darling and Mackenzie. Seems too tall. It's like they just said "well, Lycett is healthy and ready to go, but the other talls are playing well, so screw it we'll just add Lycett and take off Cole or whatever."

It smacks of the latter days of Cox when we didn't want to play him but no-one had the balls to drop him so we played 3 rucks.

Or its like Woosh is back picking the side :p

Those saying we are too tall, didnt we play 3 tall backs, two tall fwds and two rucks v geelong and it worked well. Only difference is lycett is in now for schof, and gov stays back.

Given port are playing 3 tall backs, 3 tall fwds and a ruck too think it matches up well.

Cole or nelson can come back in when we play a smaller team like the dogs last week

well last time we played port they had repeated entries into their I50 and we struggled to move the ball out of defence, so possibly the thinking is kicking long to contests is much more effective when you have both Vardy and Slyce taking big clunks

The issue I have with these decisions isn't the same issue I had a few weeks ago.

A few weeks ago I would have been able to rationalise these sorts of calls, because the comp is so tight and we're not that far off the pace, I could see how the MC could believe they've got to play the best 22 at all costs instead of playing kids.

Problem is now, it's so clear the best 22 involves plenty of the kids, and they've just brought back players that clearly aren't best 22. It literally doesn't make sense at either angle.

I don't think it's really that clear (i.e., maybe LeCras was really playing crap because of his injury), but my biggest beef is that when it comes down to a close call, the benefit of the doubt seems to almost always go to the veteran player. I'm certainly not somebody who is melting every week that half of East Perth aren't being blooded in senior footy, but how can you ever find out what you've got in those guys if they never really get a crack? Take Karpany for example, almost everyone drafted ahead of him or near him in that draft has played a good amount of senior footy, whereas it has taken him until his fourth year to really get a go. And lo and behold, he showed last game what he is capable of.

Lecras was on BackChat podcast this week and said that his hip had been hindering him since after the adelaide trip, and that he hasn't been able to train or play pain free until the end of last week. If true, let's hope if he makes the cut he his back to the lecras form from the first few rounds

Begs the question why play an injured player when we have cover for him?

At this stage in the clubs life im not that unhappy with JK out.We are so JK focused at times its farcical. This is a good time to try to develop more pathways to goal, making us less predictable. If it was dry on Sunday id pick Port to win but the rain throws up some intangibles. We have beaten them the last three all in Adelaide i think but they won the last here.I think the media pressure has gone off us and its now piling onto Port.Thats the time to beware>

Wait, it's raining in Perth and we're going in with this tall team??

This week is probably one of those weeks we can carry an extra tall or two. Emac on Dixos good match up, barrass on trengrove/ryder is oner good one and it allows gov to player on the lesser tall in westhoff. All three Kpd's for port are above 195cm.

Port in defence have three talls in hombsh, jonas and clurrey. Lycett will make hombch accountable and not peel off and support jonas or clurey.

I'm never one to wish for an injury but the match committee is testing me. Even then they'd probably pick the curly headed bloke if he only had one leg.

That's the curly headed bloke they left out last week with "soreness"?

That looks OK - the issue is we have an extra ruckman on the bench which I think is unnecessary given they have White, Impey, Atley and Houston who are all short/med runners.

Hopefully it doesn't have a big effect, but the fact our midfield is already on the slow side and we're adding an extra tall, it seems misguided.
