Garner must play, this whole he's not ready business has gone too far.

He is a tackling machine, like insane attack on man with ball, precisely what we lack. He was poor by his pretty lofty standards last week, but did happen to win the game off his own boot the week before.

Some kids have just always been better than anyone they've played against and they just adjust to the higher level with aplomb, from what I've seen, he will come in and never be dropped.

I tend to agree that he should get a go in lieu of LT

Not sure why people are calling for Garner? No more physically immature players. We need players who can contribute more than 20 minutes a game because their body isn’t up to seniors yet.

Hine is a potential gun definitely stays in. His kicking isn’t an issue especially up against the intensity and discipline he brings.

There is no way Grim and Spud will both go out of the side especially if McMahon isn’t in. You can’t bleed out that much experience in one go. I predict no change here despite all of our protestations.

Thought the same thing as hilly – Wright might come in as a defensive forward. Was the first name that came to mind for covering Deledio’s rebound. We don’t know what his instructions were in the VFL but might’ve been a very defensive role.

Tarrant showed enough to stay in. Still concerned his lack of match fitness may cost us though.

Cunners obviously straight in for Thomas if available. Wouldn’t be surprise to see this as the only change.

Sam Gibson has shot a load of egg on my face in the last month. His kicking, inside work and poise have lifted to complement his naturally elite endurance and ball hunting ability. A lock now.

MacMillan did ok as sub and being part of long term plans is extremely unlikely to be dropped. Currie is unlikely. Black had a quiet one but could really get off the leash this week, tricky type to cover for Richmond.

Have we recovered from the horrible GC performance a month ago?

Did the game against Freo signify a better defensive set up?

Can we take anything out of the GWS game?

Given that it is hard to answer any of these questions with any certainty predicting the outcome of this match is extremely difficult.

There are two areas that we need to focus on.

We will need to dominate the clearances and contested ball as although Richmonds numbers are not as good as ours in those areas (indicating that we will likely win there) the do score well from these sources. So, win well in the guts and put them under pressure when they get first hands and we will quell a significant scoring avenue. Spitz is due a good one and I hope like hell that Cunners is back.

We need to prevent them from getting opportunities to run and carry from half back. This is where I hope our defensive effort against Freo is an indication of better defensive application. Richmond love to run with the ball and generate quick movement and entries into forward 50. Like most teams these opportunities are created off half back, either by winning a contest or forcing a turn over. This is also what has been killing against the better sides this year. Quality ball use and strong forward pressure will assist in keeping the ball in our half if we can win the contested stuff.

Out: Firrito - doesn't have a role anymore, he's slow and regularly beaten in a contest. Hansen going back has probably killed his career, plays the floating role much better. Thompson is experienced enough to marshal the troops, so I say we move on from Firrito and McMahon. Although I hold hope McMahon can return to form.
Thomas

In:
C. Delaney - starting to lift and deserves a chance.
Garner. Think Richo deserves it more, but he would have been promoted by now if he were to play.

Cunnington for MacMillan if available.

so who is going to replace Thomas? Harvey can play deep forward but we all know he doesn't apply enough pressure when he doesn't have the ball. Cannot let the tigers run the ball out of our forward 50 easily otherwise they will carve us up.

Bingo. They'll prolly go with Patch but I reckon Garner could get a call up for this task specifically.

J-Mac out.

If he was to be dropped it would have been last week. He got his chance as sub and did as well as he or anyone else could have considering the circumstances.

I kind of agree with you but he cant play that role again this week, he either starts or is dropped imho. Perhaps Spud or Cunners as sub this week (if Cunners still a bit emotionally raw).

I'd rather him give away his stupid 50 within the first 3 quarters than saving it for the last as the sub..

Doesn't necessarily mean Ben will play this week but it's good see him training again. Hope things are going well with his family.

With Grima bring subbed last week, is there a chance he will be dropped for Currie??
Not if they want to continue to give Lachie the freedom to work loose.

People argue Grima has had a poor year.

He is a defender and has not been beaten by an opponent this year. I disagree he has been poor.

Also, with regards to him being subbed, that was purely because he is made of paper and they are managing his load.

or that given they were playing one key forward he wasn't even needed.

And he was playing poorly.

And he is made of paper.
