Hmm, well, I don't know if he's the kind of player that after 3 years on AFL lists is still a "developing" kind of project.

Do you think using a draft pick on a PSD or rookie would be offering more by now, with more upside?

He probably should have been given a chance again five weeks ago when Ziebell was suspended.

Needs time to re-gain confidence. He shows glimpses of being a fairly good contested player with a decent kick but then he second guesses himself and produces a howler. After that he never regains composure in a game.

Scott makes very few changes to squad week in week out. Jacobs will get the consistency he needs to re-gain his confidence. Like the last poster said we will probably give him the full year in the VFL.

I personally don't rate him but fail to see why it's of any interest to you.

Have you always taken such keen interest in North Melbourne's list management?

Didn't say anything about the past games. Fact is we won by 86 points regardless of who we played.

Don't think anyone staked a claim for a position from the VFL last week, and don't think anyone played bad enough to be dropped.

Bringing someone in who doesn't deserve it would be just gifting them a game and makes your post look a bit hypocritical.

For what it's worth I would have liked to have seen Brad swing the axe a bit more, but not after last week. Fair changes.

Lol, classic! But playing regulars who don't deserve it is of course absolutely fineo_O

HE IS WORTH PICK 17!
Yes but really, would anyone give you pick 17 for him?

My interest was I was wondering if he might get a call up this week.

I was castigated on our board for saying loudly since his first game 3 years ago that he was the worst player I have ever seen on an AFL list, and I was waiting to see how he had developed under a new coach.

All of our 'spuds' have really blossomed under Hinckley, and I was wondering if Jacobs could be a "control" as to player development, or if there was a reason Hinckley was happy to let him go for no compensation.

That was all.

Your club spent pick 39(?)on a player who had played AFL for 2 season.

I would think he'd surely he ready to slot right in, rather than be sent to the magoos for development.

Or, keen to compare the 2 streams of development.

Is that reasonable?

I think there are a few reasons.

North are playing him as a genuine mid. With that comes the need for a different body shape, more running, change in defensive focus. And he's behind some handy players in the seniors in this role.
He's putting together great numbers in the VFL.

There is no rush IMO. I think he'll be a good player, but he definately didnt come over ready to go, for a few reasons.

Strange. Thought he would come on once he was back home close to Mummy

I bet all you Port supporters are just talking crap with all this "mumma's boy" "misses his girlfriend" talk. You like most of the people that spout this shit have probably had nothing to do with Jacobs or anything to do with the inner workings of the club.

Port guys should be really happy with how their team is going at the moment.

WTF are they doing on our board still chasing after a bloke who didn't want to play for them? It must hurt.

Jacobs and Gysberts are lucky they've come to a team that doesn't need them but can give them two years to regain some of their lost mojo prove themselves. If one of them turns into a hundred plus gamer for us then we will be very happy. If not... well we haven't wasted a first round draft pick on either of them like you guys or Melbourne did.

That's a perspective I hadn't thought about

We made a call 2 years ago that you have to build a mid team out of players at least 186cm and 88kg plus

Unless you are just an out and out freak of nature like Oliver Wines, where his 6'2" and 90kilos is ok

We were cranky that Primus spent a pick on a player that just doesn't fit the mold of a midfielder in today's drug infused super human strength game.

But we never thought of him as a mid, which is interesting that this is how North had him earmarked.

Yes, you are definitely right. He can learn the skill, positioning and how to avoid a tackle, kick and so on at the 2s, but yeah, I can see how he needs an extra 10kilos to be considered as a mid

But do you think 1 year in the 2s is enough? That would only have him in the system for 3 years.

Hey I agree with you and RoosFanatic on this one.

I mean its ludicrous that a grown man would be so p*ssy whipped as much that the let a girl dicktate that he was going to leave an AFL club that put 30 games and 2 years of AFL development into him so he could come home to Melbourne. Pfft, what kind of person would do that!

Seriously, KillerPower, what a load of jack. I think a time on the sidelines is in order for him on that.

Having said that I'm 40 and if mother told me to do something I'd think twice before I then said yes mother, so I can understand where Benny Jacobs was coming from...or going to.

I just want to see him out there- would love to see him out there against us too.

Is it within the realms of possibility?

I havent seen much of him at all, to be honest. Just going by the write ups from the club on the seconds players, which are usually pretty honest.
In a few games he's had 20 touches, 10 tackles, 10 clearance type game. In one he had 42.
Some blokes come in and kill them, some do ok and stop, some take a long time. Most mids who get the footy in a contest take a while i reckon. Such a physically demanding job to do in AFL footy every week. I think ben is trying to catch up in a range of areas.

Has also added 6kgs to his frame since he arrived. Developing.

We will be a better side once he and Gysberts are up to size and endurance to play meaningful roles at AFL level.

I felt we threw Jacobs under the bus a little bit in the early rounds.

I think much will come down to where Ziebell and Cunners spend most of their time. with Swallow the other certainty, how can we play Jacobs and Gysberts all in the same team?

I reckon that that the team will be comprised of KPP and Mids.

You will need to be able to contribute in the middle and play a role elsewhere to be able to get game.

How do you play them all in the same side, well you can't with the current set up.

We'd need to rotate players through and the current selection policy does not allow for that.

Go away jerk off, your 1st post was a polite troll to see who would bite, now its blantantly obvious.

Coming from someone who used to swim with Ben and his brother (although I doubt they'd remember me :() any comments about him being a nancy boy are a load of crap.

Being injured at a club where the coach was under pressure, the list was under-performing etc. is hardly a great environment for player development.

I am confident he'll come good but as above I think he was played too early.

When the team wins by 86 points someone better have played a good game in the VFL to get in.

Don't get too carried away, yes we played a good first and last quarter but the middle quarters were shite against a very ordinary opposition. They had none of their key forwards playing or Rhys Palmer their best onballer. Need to see the forest for the trees sometimes folks! Today is a real test, looking forward to it:)
