Hopefully it’s something like
Out: gowers lac.young porter
In: dale lew.young McLean

dale is an upgrade on gowers
Lew young offers us that extra tall
McLean is a much better midfield rotation option than porter
Lachie Young needs to play defence, not wing or forward. No way he fits in right now, so needs to come out. Would be happy to see him swapped for Lewis Young so we have another tall forward.

Dale for Gowers is the obvious change, hopefully the injury was nothing serious.

McLean is an upgrade on Porter, but I'm not against seeing him get another game. He was number 1 for pressure acts, had a few head scratcher decisions paid against him, and was given limited minutes. Actually think he could do quite well for us if given the chance. If he's crap next week, then he makes way for McLean

Gowers has to go.
Young, Porter, and Weightman.... we can't keep carrying this many inexperienced players, especially when they're all playing in the same area of the ground. We are not a rebuilding side. If I had to keep one, it's probably Weightman as he has the highest upside but I'd prefer to develop West as I think he's shown more.

Fingers crossed Dale or Schache are healthy by next week, else I'm worried Gowers keeps his position as the second "marking" option forward. I'd much prefer Greene if Dale or Schache aren't right but I'm not privy to current form/fitness levels.

If we roughly group up the roles on the ground, I feel like 3 of the 4 groups are pretty settled (backs, followers and wings)
Backs: Cordy, Keath, Williams, Daniel, JJ, Wood, Croz
Followers: English, Libba, Bont, Smith, Macrae
Wings: VDM, Richards, Lipinski (when Hunter comes back, VDM moves to the forwards)

This isn't to say some of these players don't move around but just generally grouping into their main role.

Still big question marks on the forwards... if we're playing Porter and Young up there for significant time it's not ideal.

Forwards from last night: Bruce, Wallis, Porter, Young, Suckling, Gowers, Weightman (bold won't be dropped)

It's obvious we are lacking natural forwards as well as experience. Too much panicked play, with already developing players such as VDM, Richards in other parts of the ground.

I'd have our best forward group as: Bruce, Schache, Wallis, Dale, Suckling, McLean, Dickson/Lloyd

Dale needs two talls next to him to perform at his best. Without Naughton we need Schache as a 2nd target, even if he's soft he still has more pros than cons with his accurate kicking, leading patterns and general forward nous. Suckling in the high half forward role is his best position currently. Wallis picks himself. McLean needs to lock down a role but should be good enough for best 22. Dickson or Lloyd as the smaller forwards, with their experience, forward craft and accurate kicking. I think this just makes us a much better team.

If Schache is injured I think Greene is a better option than Gowers as the second "tall". If Dale is still injured then both Lloyd and Dickson come in (or I guess Weightman could keep his spot).

In: McLean (defensive role on Vlastuin)
Out: Gowers

Wouldn't mind if Dale/Lloyd/Dickson came in for Richards/Porter/Young/Weightman but I think we'll give Weightman and Richards another week, considering how limited our chances forward were. Dry conditions expected for the game so it should suit those three I mentioned as possible ins.

Really hope Cotchin is still out for our game. We should really be able to control the midfield and there run off half-back without Houli (and Vlastuin if McLean plays on him) will struggle.

Legit question. What AFL level traits does porter have?

Effort is one. Anything else?
Toughness, tackling ability. Too early to say on his ball winning ability.
He has progressed quite a bit in in his playing career so far though, so he's shown an ability to develop to each level above.
But yeah, I see him as depth only at this stage.

Porter wouldn't be in our top 7 or so inside mids.

Bont, Macrae, Dunkley, Smith, Liberatore, McLean, Jong.

You could then argue if a huge chunk of those players were missing that Wallis, West, Lipinksi and Hunter would move from their respective positions and play on ball.

Its a strange selection in my eyes.

Is good defensively in the contest positions very well to block exits and can stick a tackle better then most in our team

Obviously I missed all the traits listed by BEaston and Mojorisin ! :)
He is by no means a superstar but a good battler and good depth who knows if he can keep improving at the rate and become a part of the best 22 however I think he definitely deserves to keep his spot on the list.
As I said before only had just over 50% game time and took awhile to aclimatise to the level so hopefully he is retained and has 75%+ game time next week to show what he adds.
dont guys getting dropped after one week and hate it when it's done to a debutant absolute confidence killer

Does anybody know what has happened with Lewis Young?
I thought that he would be one of our top players by now but he has not been sighted.

Out
Gowers, all that he is going to do is lose a game for us. Should have been delisted 2 years ago.
Porter, just does not get enough of the ball. Wasn't much good in the VFL last year. Should have been delisted.
Young, looks like a footballer but just doesn't have it. Unless he has a miracle turnaround it should be the last year for him I reckon.

In
Lewis Young: can play forward, back and ruck with big marks and run and carry.
Dickson, Lloyd, West, McLean or Greene.

Bring back our champs if they are fit or able to play.
Naughton
Dunkley
Hunter

Played Round 1 had four disposals and four clangers and has been a training buddy for Ryan Gardner, Bevo is hoping some of the
elite traits of Gardner rub off on Lewis Young.

Ahhh round 1. I forgot about that selection debacle. Team was loaded with our talls.

I'd bring in Sweet in the ruck and play English across half forward to use his gut running, agility and marking more to our advantage. English gets beat in the ruck most weeks so Sweet couldn't do much worse (wishful thinking) and allows English to play to his strengths.

In: Sweet, Lloyd, Dickson, Mclean
Out: Lachie Young, Gowers, Suckling, Porter

Forward line:
FF Wallis Bruce Weightman
HF Dickson English Lloyd

Much more balanced forward line with real forwards not makeshift CHB's

I actually think this might be a good time to rest Libba. Get him fresh to attack the next handful of games with shorter breaks. Tigers have a few mids out so we should be okay in the middle. Hopefully we can bring in Hunter to replace him, and not lose any maturity.

It’ll give Porter a chance at a few midfield minutes with Bont, Macrae, Smith as I doubt Bevo drops a first gamer after a win.

All in v Tigers. Dale a must, replacing Weightman with Suckers surviving just, and Schache for Gowers.

Mass restings v Port. Billy can return and even be captain if it makes Bevo feel good.

Reload v Lions and Crows.

I get suckling wasn’t great last night but think we wasted his greatest strength last night, player him forward mostly deep when his kicking could have gained us ground position if he was used further up the field. Plus he played pretty decent last week.

Tend to agree would rather see Suckers hanging around just outside the 50 if he's playing forward
