Playing Toby an inside mid... Wonder if that’s how we plan to use him in the seniors? Can’t imagine there is any space there.

The rise of Smith and Dunkley hurt Toby. His best seasons were 17/18 when our midfield stock was riddled with injury and developing players.

Toby's best suited to an inside mid role.

Probably get games there over the coming month. We’ll be preparing to rest Libba, Bont etc. Likely why we gave Porter some experience as well. These players will be needed.

We seemed to rotate the mids a bit more heavily last week. Even first gamer Porter got a few centre bounces. Maclean can slot into the high half/midfield rotation.

As good as Bont is, he goes to another level against Richmond.

In his 5 games against them, his Brownlow votes have been 3, 3, 3, 0, 2.

In his 0 game, he still had 29 possessions, 8 tackles.

Dominates.
He used to barrack for them didn't he?

Good to hear Lloyd and McLean are doing the right things to get back in the side. Nothing worse than best 22’s not playing best 22 football. Hopefully they stop taking the piss and make it hard for the coaches to leave them out.

I'm not sure if it's brilliant management or good fortune, but for us to be 5-3 coming into the glut of the season with fresh players like McLean, Lloyd, Schache,West and Dickson in immediate reserve and then Dunkley, Hunter, Naughton, Dale, Jong, Duryea in the medium term does leave us well placed.

We know what makes perfect sense but Bevo is still going to pull some arrogant, ego-driven, disrespectful move.

I’m over it.

Jeez some of you guys are a bit harsh on Porter. Had 7 contested possessions, 4 tackles and 17 pressure acts from only 56% game time with a injured shoulder (even if it's minor, it probably wasn't 100%) in his first game. I get that he's in his 3rd year, but only being 21 and that being his first game, I think there's a bit to work with there (despite the negatives). I reckon he only goes out if he's injured.

I'll give him credit for not dropping his head and working hard, but let's be honest, that was a bad first game. He had 6 clangers with 56% game time, that would have to be close to a record. I'm glad he didn't get anymore game time so we didn't get to see anymore stuff ups.

He wasn't alone though. Weightman somehow played worse, Suckling wasn't much better and Gowers had money on the Suns to win. Young too was terrible at times, but did have some good moments. Bruce didn't do much. They should all come under a lot of criticism.

I think Porter, Weightman and Gowers should be on the chopping block this week. McLean and Lloyd to come in. Hopefully one of Dale or Schache comes up if not perhaps Dickson.

Yeah agree might be good luck but we are going to have much fresher legs than many other teams over the next few months. To be in that position at 5-3 is great

Time to give Dickson a go if fit. Kicked 24 in 17 games last year. Good skills in the wet. In form he's exactly what we're missing... experienced natural small forward. This season is wide open. Potentially a very important player if we make finals.

The game we lost in 2017 was by three points when missed at goal.
2018, but yep.

In fact, since mid-2005 we've only lost to them 4 times from 18 games, which came in a 3 game losing streak in 2012-13 and that 2018 loss. Not that this really means anything for next week, but it's an interesting stat.

In: Jackson Trengove (Tom Lynch match up)

Out: Billy Gowers

Cannot sit back and invite pressure against Richmond, must present some kind of forward structure. Any other changes don't matter
as much as the Trengove one which is purely structural.

Keath has well covered Cameron, Brown, King, etc. Lynch is a mobile, leading type of FF. More than happy with that match up. Cordy on Reiwoldt is ok

Cordy goes forward to help control their intercept marking, Lynch/Trengove and Riewoldt/Keath controlling the swell from the midfield
presents more of a challenge.

Won’t be unsurprising to see winning teams get lots of changes with quick turnaround times over the next month or so

Out:

Gowers
Porter
Weightman
LaYoung

In:

Lloyd
West
McLean
Trengove or LeYoung
