I agree, and I don't get why people are calling for changes down back when we have kept the Suns to 46 points and the convicted drug cheats to 51. Backline has looked solid. Defence is not where we are currently having challenges.
Premierships are won with the strongest backline and midfield. We are getting there.

Interesting in the scratch match write up that it specifically mentioned how McLean's delivery into the forward line was much improved.

Could be the main reason why he was dropped after the blues game. IIRC he kept pumping the ball into our 50 high and long most of the night.

He will be excellent coverage for our inside mids over the next few games.

I like Porter but I think he'll end up as a nice role player, not a top line mid. He's hard nosed, gets a couple of nice touches, seems to be trying to get the most out of himself but I don't think he'll end up as much more than a battler. West on the other hand is all that and has the skills and potential to be a game changer if given a chance on ball. I hope we can somehow keep Porter around as a long term depth option as there are lots of great sides that have his type waiting in the sidelines in case they need it but right now I prefer West.

In: West and Lloyd

Out: Porter and Gowers
Were people not saying the same about Daniel Cross.

I think Bev has certain specific expectations for each player and if they are not meeting those expectations they are out for a stint in the twos.

He doesn’t care which player is better than the other. If a lesser player is doing everything right then they get a go in front of better players that are not playing to their expected level.

It might mean strange selections and short term pain but it at least should see every player either reach their full potential or lose their spot on the list.

What is he in the side for? Picked as a half back flanker, gets beaten, no good in the air, poor disposal, ends up at FF cause they have too many half back flankers

Covers the ground as good as anyone but I agree he needs to Improve overall

Look at the defensive 7 we have. Keath, Cordy, Williams, Crozier, JJ, Daniel, Wood. How many of them were high draft selections. None.

Develop a good system and players who know their respective roles and you can make it work just like we have. Even worse throwing Naughton back could upset the whole dynamic of what we have.

Even the thought of Naughton back is silly. Our forward line is in a dire state right now. Schache is no good and we often sacrifice bont to play up forward so that we have a secondary target. In big games we need Bont in the middle.

It was a shame Naughton got injured when he did. His first quarter before his injury against the Swans was outstanding. He was just getting into some form.

Naughton won’t be going back. That’s not to say he won’t go back every now and then but he will play most of his career forward

Yeah agree might be good luck but we are going to have much fresher legs than many other teams over the next few months. To be in that position at 5-3 is great

There is an element of luck but don’t underestimate what Bevo is doing. There are few clubs who have the overall depth we have and that’s in part due to our coaches ability to believe in players and recognise their strengths.

I would challenge the comment with regard to Weightman. First half was very quiet yes, however he had two legitimate shots on goal in the third which was more than about three of our forwards combined. It was his second game and I'd be happy for him to stay in.

Agree and his pressure is good. I expect he will never be a huge possession getter

Spot on. Remember when he sent Wallis back to improve his forward craft and now see how it’s paying dividends.

Who goes to Dusty? I am thinking Crozier when he is forward and Toby or Libba when he is midfield. Bolton is also a worry but Bazza is the match up we back him in to play his natural game defend when necessary and attack when we have the ball.

Limiting turnovers is the way to beat the tigers. We need to be clean going forward. This game and the next 2 will define our season. To see if we are a contender or a pretender.

Who goes to Dusty?
Caleb Daniel, every time Dusty goes for the trusty "Don't Argue" there is no man sized body to push off and he will simply topple
over under the force of his own inertia rendering him completely useless and devoid of confidence. Plus Dusty is not one to chase
an opponent so Caleb Daniel can run around by himself like normal.

We tend not to tag onballers too much, but it would be very entertaining if Libba is sent to Dusty with specific instructions to apply maximum pressure and get under his skin

I agree about minimising turnovers, however we also need to move the ball quickly and challenge their structures behind the ball. Tricky balance to find but we do go well against them

Porter only played about 56% game time last week so no wonder he looked lost, he wasn't there. I'm guessing the shoulder troubled him & he'll be out injured.

Legit question. What AFL level traits does porter have?

Effort is one. Anything else?
He did win 7 contested possessions in his limited game time in a heavily contested match.

An ability to win your own ball is a pretty good start.

I don't know how far Porter can go but he wasn't hopeless. I'd be happy if he held his spot.

Bazza?

Watched the replay a couple times since Thursday and I'd be surprised if LaYoung gets dropped this week. I think Porter and Weightman will be the only changes barring any other injured players we don't know about. I think Mclean comes back and so does Lloyd. If Hunter is available he plays for Lloyd and if Dale is fit then Suckers might be unlucky.
