So it's Billy's fault those 20 games were lost?
K
Here's a better guide for the period 2018-2020:

Gowers 32 games, winning ratio 37.5%
WB 52 games, winning ratio 48.9%

Coincidence? Maybe, but GW seems to be suggesting a causal connection.

I have picked a few players who have also been in and out of the side (on form) over that period:

Toby McLean 45 games 46.7% wins (22 in 2018)
Lin Jong 13 games 69.2% (10 in 2018)
Bailey Dale 27 games 48.1% (10 in 2018)
Bailey Williams 31 games 48.4% (14 in 2018)
Pat Lipinski 37 games 51.4% (17 in 2018)
--------------------------------------------------------
Billy Gowers 32 games 37.5% (20 in 2018)

I was a bit sceptical too but the above stats make me wonder...

What works against Gowers in those stats is that 20 of his 32 games were played in our poor 2018 season. Most of the others are a bit more evenly spread over the three seasons. Our winning ration as a club in 2019-20 is 56.7%.

Lin Jong is an interesting contrast though - he looks really good on those stats with a 70% win record in 2018!

It might not exactly be Billy's fault we lost those 20 games. A kinder way of saying it might be to say "when we're picking Gowers we're obviously in a bit of trouble".

Yes, I agree with the last paragraph. His playing style is unique in comparison to most other players on the list, which is why the match committee continue to play him. I just feel that playing another tall forward who can do some minutes in the ruck gives us greater flexibility. Billy is a one trick pony - physical third tall with poor skills and decision making, but he is a good bloke who tries hard and is the right size so we will persist with him I guess.

Currently working on Draft Wars Fossie 32 (2000 to 2019) Pick 1 versus Pick 2, Pick 3 versus Pick 4, etc etc etc all the way out to
Pick 19 versus Pick 20 so far, interesting results took awhile for the higher pick to win, but it did happen eventually.

Very happy to see Toby McLean back in the side, hope he goes well and re-establishes himself in the MC's good books.

A little worried about our lack of pace in the forward line, Richards and Weightman's contributions could be important in addressing this deficiency.

I also hope Billy Gowers has a decent game tonight so he can move on from last week's brain fade.

Whilst he made a bad and potentially costly play, in the end that potential wasn't realised and it didn't cost us anything apart from some brief heart palpitations.

Go Dogs!

Probably not but 2015 was actually pretty good. Dicko and Stringer in ripping form and Crameri pretty good too. Kicked over 140 between them.

Was harder in 2016 because we stopped the run and gun style that allowed us to kick and concede cricket scores. Probably the best it’s been since Eade.

Redpath went alright also.

2015 with all those in form probably the best forward line of the past decade.

Apologies, I haven’t read all the thread to avoid the Gowers melts but am I reading too much in to Trenners being named an emergency - first time all year? Late change brewing?

Would Trenners or Cordy be better up forward?
Trengove is a better match up for lynch and cordy better below his knees and likes the chaos ball that our forward line provides easy choice for mine.
In saying that I'm hoping it's brick in the ruck and English in the goal square

This just swung even further toward us being older & more experienced.
29 yo, 185 game Trengove replaces 19yo, 2 game Weightman

I'll give him credit for not dropping his head and working hard, but let's be honest, that was a bad first game. He had 6 clangers with 56% game time, that would have to be close to a record. I'm glad he didn't get anymore game time so we didn't get to see anymore stuff ups.

He wasn't alone though. Weightman somehow played worse, Suckling wasn't much better and Gowers had money on the Suns to win. Young too was terrible at times, but did have some good moments. Bruce didn't do much. They should all come under a lot of criticism.

I think Porter, Weightman and Gowers should be on the chopping block this week. McLean and Lloyd to come in. Hopefully one of Dale or Schache comes up if not perhaps Dickson.
Well conditions weren't great, and that combined with nerves of his first game and injured shoulder probably contributed to that. Also, suns were the best pressure side in the comp heading into the match. You need to look at the context here. It might've been a different story on a dry day. The important thing is he gave effort, did the hard and defensive stuff, which is all you can ask from a kid playing his first game. Even if his game was terrible and undefendable, it was still his first game. Let's wait until we see him play at least a couple more games before we knock him (preferrably when condition's aren't terrible).
