King in for Blake
Chapman in for ?

Byrnes deserves to stay in the team.
All other forwards deserve to stay in the team.

I didn't see the freo game. How did Hunt go? Would he be a chance to be dropped?

IN: P. Chapman & T. Hawkins
OUT: S. Byrnes & N. Ablett

I dunno about Hawkins...
I think Hawkins should gain more experience - in the VFL, until he shows that he can add something to the team.
He will be a champion, just not yet.

n. ablett is well ahead of hawkins in development but if we give hawkins the same opportunities as nathan, he will quickly overtake him. personally, i think it's more beneficial for hawkins to play at AFL level. bigger guys take longer to develop but let them develop at AFL level.

As catman forever said:
shannon has played 5 games this year and averages 14 disposals per game and 4.4 tackles per game.

Travis has played 13 games this year and averages 7 disposals per game and 3.5 tackles per game.
Oh, Byrnesie - if only you knew the heart-ache/insomnia/nervous rash/nausea/ you cause for some posters on BF. I think you'll keep your place for the time being!
And I'd have Tomahawk back in the side too.

What does Varcoe have to do with Byrnes getting dropped ?
It would be Chappy, not Varcoe, coming in for Byrnes

I'm just sayin that if chappy came in i would prefer it not be byrnes who makes way. It doesnt have to do with varcoe, but catman forever gave some good stats that i am just considering.

I'm not trying to bag Varcoe, but he has played 13 games this year. Byrnes' stats are better than varcoes so why wouldn't he be given another shot?

Byrnes missed a relatively easy shot, gave away a 50 and shanked a kick into our forward line which lead to a turnover. Its not like he was fantastic this week.

Billy Brownless just said on the Sunday Footy show that King will get a game before the end of the season and Blake would probably be dropped to make way for him.

Now is probably the best time to bring King in.
:thumbsu:

Good thinking - bring King back in now to rest Blake for a couple of weeks. King plays for maybe two weeks, breaks down and then we have Blake fit and rested ready for the finals:thumbsu:

In - Gardiner
Out - Mooney.

Give the big fella a rest.

We'll beat Richmond with Gardiner in the side, and even if we did lose, we're still gonna finish on top, so the loss will be a good wake up call.

All I see is that Byrnes has had 14 chances per game to screw it up. Don't think he adds anything. Some of the things he does are very selfish, and cause points/turnovers. He is not in our best 22. Not sure whether Varcoe is either, but Byrnes definately isn't!!

In: Varcoe Chapman King
Out: Mooney Byrnes Blake

The long term forecast is for showers/rain late in the week and on Saturday. Apparently Mooney has a slight injury, so this week would be a good chance to rest him to get himself right for the finals. I'd bring in Varcoe as I think the ball will be at ground level most the game and he, Stokes, Chappy, SJ and Gaz will all thrive in the forward line with the ground ball, plus they'll kill it in defensive pressure in the forward line too. I'd give Blake a rest, as it seems he's not covering the ground as well as he was earlier in the season.

To replace Mooney, I'd either play Ottens at FF and Nathan at CHF, and swap Ottens and King between FF and the ruck, or seeing Richmond don't really have anyone worth tagging, play Ling at full forward! DJ might even be able to run with someone if it was absolutely necessary.

If Mooney goes out our only tall forward will be Nathan. Not good. If we are going to rest Mooeny, bring in a tall.

And don't be stupid. Why put Ottens forward when he is giving our midfielders first use out of the centre?

the above is a ridicolous post.

a - Gardiner for Moons? Seriously, Gardiner? And I dont really think Big Moons needs a rest. Its not like last year when he was playing all over the ground. He's strictly a forward this year, and looks fresh as a daisy to me. Besides, he should get the equivalent of a rest against the Tigers anyway!!

b - how do you figure a loss at Skilled Stadium to the bottom side would be a good wake up call? at best we would recover from it, at worst it would shatter our confidence and put doubt in the players minds...not to mention make us the laughingstock of the league.

Anyone talking about resting players needs to get off the gear. The ONLY reason we would do that was if players had niggling injuries.

If Chapman is good to go, he comes in. Probably for Byrnes or Josh Hunt.

Varcoe won't play again this year, he's not in our best 22. Only two out of best 22 atm are Chapman and Rooke. I'd much prefer Byrnes to Varcoe, but I don't think either will be around in September.

And King should come in for Blake.

Ottens should not be played as a permanent forward ever again. He is much too valuable in the ruck and he upsets the balance in the forward line because he has put on too much bulk and is pretty much useless once the ball hits the ground. Also the opposition opponent can run off him and we pride our team on offensive pressure. He can pinch hit 5-10 minutes max a quarter but never as a permanent forward as he was used against the Bulldogs in round one and we saw what happened. I don't think its a coincident that we loss in round one and he was playing as a permanent forward and lost against the Hawks and Roos and he was missing and playing as a ruckman.

I'd much prefer Varcoe over Byrnes. Brynes may get more of the ball but he has shocking disposals and makes critical errors that sapp the team morale much like Kent Kingsley use to do went he missed set shots (which was damn often). Varcoe adds the "X-Factor" which makes our forward line seem much more dangerous with and gives better balance to the forward line compare to Brynes. Varcoe's possessions are more damaging than Brynes as well.

And I can't believe some of you guys are calling for Nablett to get dropped. At the moment, he is much more valuable than Hawkins because he covers much more ground and can play CHF. If we play Hawkins in the finals, he will be a liability because of his shocking stamina. Nablett always presents and is great below his knees and on both sides of his body. Don't forget he has been carrying some niggling injuries all year as evident in missing 3 games already, yet has kicked over 20 goals at CHF while carrying niggling injuries. And Gardiner.....PLEASE. He should NEVER be mentioned as a possible selection again.

FFS people, Byrnes >= Varcoe!!

OMG. Open your freaking eyes. Such one eyed crap. Yes, Varcoe can get off a decent quick look away handpass (i mean throw) every now and again, but these have a massive chance of going straight to the opposition or to nobody at all. As for his kicking, he can't kick on the run, and if he's having a shot from further than 30m, he usually wont make the distance. He is tiny in stature... He gets to his man, but gets brushed off as many times as he lays an effective tackle. Stats have already been supplied indicating that Byrnes gets more tackles per game and by a fair margin. As Varcoe gets older and gets more experience, he should improve... unless of course he gets stuck with a 'shit kick for life' tag like Byrnes....

I disagree. SJohnson provides the x-factor. Varcoe just sits in the pocket and doesn't get any touches.

Should he get a game just because his name is Ablett? We should be rewarding our VFL listed players for their good form. As much as you don't like the idea, Gardiner has been playing good football and deserves his shot at the VFL as much as the next guy. Whether he will get another chance or not is anyone's guess. Nathan Ablett, however, has not been performing - plain and simple. If he is carrying an injury then he should rest... Although we can afford to carry a few, why run him into the ground if we don't have to? If he's suffering from motivational issues, they should be sorted out. If he is just down on confidence, then he would regain it in the VFL.

I tend to agree with this post from MmkMrMackie. There is often too much personal criticism - I know it's only one's opinion, but often it is simple dislike of a player regardless of their actual contribution.
