If Lloyd is fit I wouldn't mind seeing him play CHF and Lucas in the goalsquare as Lucas has been beaten by quicker players on the lead the last 2 weeks and if he just stays in the goalsquare he would beat Firrito/whoever. If Lloyd isn't fit, I wouldn't mind seeing Fletcher go to CHF for reasons I just stated

And Nashy to play if fit

I would like to see something different tried, therefore the line would look like this:

B: Heff Michael Welsh
Ryder (loose)
HB: McPhee Fletcher Cole
C: Lovett J.Johnson Stanton
HF: Davey Lucas Monfries
F: MJ Johns
FOLL: Hille Winda McVeigh
INT: Houli, Pev/Watson, Dyson, Hird

-Id like to see Cole come into the side and provide some drive off half back, and we could have Ryder loose around Half Back and chop everything off with McPhee (Paddy does that well).

-Leave the forward line open, for Johns to lead into, with MJ in the goal square taking a few hangers.

-Houli to come into the side, had an awesome game, and we needs his skill and pace in the team.

-McVeigh needs to stay in the midfield, when he is in the midfield, he's able to dominate games and is in our top 3 midfielder when he plays there.
We need his skill, hardness, pace and attack/defence on the ball.
If he played onball for the whole year, im pretty sure he'd win our B&F.

-Pev, JJ, Hird and Watson are all a similar type when they play in the midfield, and we don't need 4 of the same type in the team, so we need to drop one of them (It'd probably be Jobe).

-We wont need Welsh at HFF because the kanga's havn't really got a damaging running half back, so we should just stick him down back to create a bit more run.

The only thing im not sure of about this team is Heff in the BP and Johns at FF, more so Heff, but i think our midfield looks pretty good. What do you guys think about the team?

Its F----g McPhee's fault for not doing his job ffs!!. He is supposed to spoil and not let the star hal forward get the bloody ball.
He was way behind some of franklin's leads. P--s poor effort imo.
It was partly McPhee's fault, but Franklin is about as tall as Fletcher and quick as, no wonder he outmarked McPhee! If McPhee wasn't up to the task (which he clearly wasn't), Sheedy shouldv'e moved McPhee off him or double teamed him or even put a bit of a flood on. Therefore it's mostly Sheedy's fault.

We do as of last week, played his first game back from injury in 18 months.

So you are saying winning the ball 8 times where the opposition would have got it overwise means nothing and btw his tackling pressure was good in the packs (3 tackles).[/QUOTE]

Ahhh..three tackles for Jobe, glad you brought that up.

Lets have a look at our developing midfield and see how it compares to say...the best team in the comp atm...probably the Eagles hey?

Ok. Here we have some WC's stats for their prime movers in the middle and the ones who are running off HB. I like to look at Inside 50s because thats what goals are made of...lets face it.

Inside 50s WCE

Judd 6
Jones 4
Priddis 5
Braun 4
Lynch 11
Rosa 6
Cox 5
Stenglein 3
Kerr 3

Us

Pev 2
Lucas 2
Monfries 2
JJ 2
Hird 2
Watson 2

Dyson 3
Stanton 5
Lovett 5
McVeigh 4
Welsh 6
and Winderlich 0...with 94 mins on the ground:eek: ..Welsh had 95.

Welsh had a good game:thumbsu:

Our bigmen...
Laycock 2
Ryder 1

Bit of a way to go if we are going to rise to the top of the tree.
We are simply not winning the ball enough and players like the slanted ones above, are not getting the ball into our "attacking 50" with any real success.

Other annoying stats include...

EFC hitouts...26

HFC.......44:thumbsu: :(

Getting killed...will Hille provide the answer and get back to some real form?

Tackles is another fave....we had 46 and WC had 44 vs WB,but look at the players who tackled the most at WC compared to us.

WCE players top tackles against WB.

Judd 6
Stenglein 4
Chick 3
Selwood 5
Hunter 4
Waters 3

All six will hurt you in a tackle and do it every week.
Do we have 7 great tacklers atm?

And here's some names that didn't tackle so much on Saturday...

Davey 1
JJ 1
Hird 2
McVeigh 2
MJ 1
Monfries 1
Dyson 0
Lovett 0

Hey,I'm not saying the team is completely crap,I'm just trying to get a few people out of fairy land who are wrapped up in a "lets look at the bright side" way of viewing our current form.

To sum up.....

Dyson is not an option any more.

Watson better start kicking directly to his target and start doing more than just 22 handpasses a game.....love the handpasses, but more is needed.

Winderlich will need time...if Collingwood could wait for Reese Shaw,we can wait for Jason:)

Someone better teach Laycock how to ruck...quickly.

Bolton has to be used as a "Break Open Only In Emergency" option.

Johnno should play forward around the 50 arc.....Welsh as well.

Paddy should be left at HB...McPhee,just get over Buddy and find some god damn form.

Houli should be brought in for Heffernan....sorry Heff.

Lovett...kick more goals...run harder,try to tackle more.

Not damaging enough that he needs to be tagged, he had about 16 disposals last week didnt he?

Played 65% TOG. 16 disposals - all hitting their target. Not a bad return for someone coming back after 18 monhs out of the game.

A class above most blokes running around in the AFL, and he's only played 7 games. He's top shelf as far as footballers go - plus he's quick and has grown (6'3").

When he get's his fitness levels up and able to play a full game, he'll be the 1st player tagged on our list.

Agree with that, in the coming years will be alot more dangerous than Wells.

I think you'll find it was 76% TOG. He will be a great player, let me assure you that, but there will be no need to tag him on Friday night.

Which i also agree with, i thought you were talking about our lack of HBF's, not talking about potential tags.

If i were Sheedy I would be looking at #1 Wells, #2 Harvey, #3 Grant, #4 Simpson, in order of priority.

Why rush Gumbleton? Johns has proved a more than handy replacement and Gumbleton from most reports isn't anywhere near big enough yet. Young KPP take a while to come on look at Roughead still struggling because he was thrown in way to early.

I disagree, Johns is good in front of gols but lacks second and third efforts, and that is a major attribute to not have in AFL footy, give gumby a game, what harm could it do, i have heard massive wraps on this kid!

A lot of harm I'd imagine, given the kid can't run.

Johns' work rate is improving by the week. He kicked two goals, missed two he should have kicked and setup three.

His attack on the ball was much better and his intent to break packs is something we haven't had since Dean Wallis left us.

In the long run, Johns will hopefully come good, in the interim....with Lucas being held and Lloyd being injured....the team dont appear to have complete faith in Johns...hence trying to chip the ball sideways and splitting the centre corridor. Thats the view from my perspective anyways. I wouldnt expect Johns to make any significant impact until 09 at least. Any earlier and Id be surprised.

Or they didnt think they could find space through the 3 man zone the Hawks set up on our CHF line and had to go sideways becasue there where no options....

Thats what happens Ant when we start the chip around at half back before we find a target down field (lets give as much time for the opposition to set up their zone/flood. Maybe if we are going to model our game on Sydney we should watch how they set up through the middle, pull all there players into the corridor and peel off to the wings. We just decide to all spread out accross the ground causin our own "flood" and giving oirselves nowhere to lead into...!!

Actually cant agree , have seen the Hawks three times live this year and they set up the zone when the ball is in their forward 50 before it comes back out. They work extremly hard to push back to set it up. The way to beat it is to do what the Bulldogs do/did to the Hawks. Have several players running hard through the zones or down the lines and force them to try and man up and secondly use the ball well. Have your one or two tall forwards in the goal square and if your half forwards, mids and half backs work hard enough you find space somewhere to run up and go over the zone or to force it backwards so players can lead from outside 50 into the area about 40 out.
