Hombsch did do well but Jonas is better

What a champ Jack Hombsch is. Has become a depth player but just keeps doing a solid job and presenting with a terrific attitude regardless of whether he's playing for the Magpies or the Power on any given weekend. Guys like this make footy clubs.

With Membry, Battle and McCartin, there is Depth to play Hombsch, Jonas and Clurey and allow Dougal to be the +1 Defender. Also if they are monitoring Jonas’ Hammy there is always the chance we give him another week to be sure. The old rule with Hammies was when it was fine, give it one more just in case.

Pretty sure I read somewhere battle is out for 4-6 weeks

When interviewed on TEN Brendan Lade seemed pretty adamant that we will not be playing Dixon, Marshall, Westhoff and Watts togrther in our forward line. Westhoff's form in the forward half has probably blind sided Ken and Co. Ladey was also pretty pleased with Jack Watts' form in the SANFL so it could be Watts for Marshall this week.

Blindsided? He was a forward before he became Mr. Fix it. Short memories.

Yes clubs win Premierships, not teams.

Shows you how good our depth is when Watts and Marshall have to battle it out for a spot in the firsts.

argh listening to Lade thats going to be the case. unfortunately they forget about how well round 1 went up forward.
Our forward line isnt working at the moment. go back and watch round 1 v freo.
I want all of Marshall dixon Watts and westhoff in

Marshall and Watts are AFL quality, and both deserve to play both in the 1sts. Westy spent a lot of time in defence last week. He gets thrown back there when the defence is struggling. Took some telling marks. Westy also relieved Ryder in the ruck. It's not like all four players will play in the forward 50 all of the time. And why not play all 4 for parts of the game.

AFL quality players should play for the firsts. It's the coaches job to figure out how to make it work.

Bit of a fan of S Gray, but at the moment he is looking "clapped out", either through workload, illness or injury.
Out: S Gray
In: Snelling

In round 1 Westhoff played across the middle and mainly helped out in defence, then had to help ruck against Sandi when Paddy went down. He wasn't a factor up forward.

As Lade said he is now playing forward, yes he still drops back to support the defence, but his scoreboard impact is undeniable. It's a reasonable position. Having 4 tall forwards isn't going to be any more helpful than 3. I would rather another really quick medium/small forward in the mix than a 4th tall.

Round 1 was the best our forward line has looked all year. But let's never do that again because reasons.
We've at least had two genuine KPF's every game this year, but still it does the head in.
Ken has improved, but the old handbook is still in the back pocket.
Lets thumb through it:
It's wet - drop a tall forward
Tall forward didn't kick a bag - drop a tall forward
Opposition has a small defense - don't exploit lack of height, try to run 'pressure point them'. Drop a tall forward
Opposition has a tall defense - try to exploit them for speed. Drop a tall forward.
Small forward does well in SANFL - drop a tall forward.
Tall forward does well in SANFL - replace one tall with another.

*Whack* *Whack* *Whack* is my head on the desk.

It's not like we'd be playing three talls in the forward 50 anyway. With all of Watts, Dixon and Marshall we can play Watts as a high HFF providing a link between defense and forward. With Hoff able to do the same or be more free to drop back to intercept marks in defense. And with Watts up as a high HFF then Dixon can spend more time closer to goal, which draws defenders, also allowing Marshall more space and less attention then he's had to deal with since returning. All are quick and good at ground level, we aren't losing anything replacing a small with Watts. Every year it's 'We'll have more tall forwards', but every year, it ends up trending back to less. Prove us wrong Ken, please!

I’m backing Hinkley with the current scructure because we are doing well, but I do think that when Jonas is injured and we have Hoff forward it leaves Howard, Clurey and Hombsch a bit exposed.

If Jonas comes in for Hombsch though, then I got no problems with where Hoff goes.
