Marshall out is a no brainer to get Watts in.

Trengove is a ‘how the **** do we get DBJ and Jonas back?”.
We have been carrying Marshall over and, now that he has scored, we drop him!? It doesn't make sense.

Drop Sam Gray (who had a bad day) and Pittard, and we can keep both Marshall and Treangove. Watts and DBJ are in, no problem. Jonas for Hombsch closes our list.

Boak has just about replaced Pittard as the litmus test for understanding of the game amongst Port supporters at this point.

If you don't think Boak should hold his place, you don't get it.

Yep, he made one bad mistake I remember but apart from that, had a very solid game. Lots of important run and link up. Good goal and almost snagged another, in the last I think it was, out of a pack 30m out.

I can’t help think that we have fallen into the Melbourne trap of expecting Watts to be a different player after 2 games in the SANFL.
Dees supporters came here to tell us Watts was no Dixon. It is OK. We have a Dixon on Charlie Dixon. We even have a second Dixon on Paddy Ryder.

We didn't have a Watts!

Marshall did nothing that Watts playing that position couldn’t do a lot better. It’s as simple as that. He has been awful for three games now. The goals were pretty standard.

Gray needs to stay as there is no like for like swap unless you drop him to keep Trengove in.
Hombsch has played well and DBJ is one of our best players.

They are good problems to have.

I reckon Sam Gray has credits in the bank from earlier in the season to have another chance. But I will say if Farrell keeps knocking the door down, I’d like to see him be our 1st AFL debutant for the year soon.

Watts back in. I’d prefer we give the three-pronged tall forward line another go and have S. Gray drop out (I feel like he’s dropped off significantly since we brought Thomas in, not sure if that’s just a coincidence or if they’re getting in each other’s way a bit? But right now I’d much rather keep Thomas), but if Ken’s love for Sam Gray holds firm then Watts in for Marshall.

DBJ in for Pittard (inj)

Would probably give TJ another week’s rest considering our opposition.

Sorry but Marshall and S Gray need to go out. Marshall’s a great kid but he’s playing injured and is offering nothing. Same as S Gray. We’ve got Thomas, Wingard and R Gray offering plenty of defensive pressure inside the fifty. Tough week of selections coming up depending on how the Magpies play.

Was SGray really droppable or do people just mention him in these threads cause it's habit?

He really needs to improve the length of his kicks. Everyone should be able to make the ball go over the goal umpires hat from 20m out. Instead it almost always lands short of the goals.

How is Boak so bad these days? Is it that he just doesn't suit his role or what? I find myself cursing at him several times a game and can barely remember a good thing he has done recently. He is so fumbly, and just makes so many errors by hand and foot, bad decisions and creates costly turnovers regularly.

Was he great previously because his poor decision making and skill was masked when he played in the onball role?

I just cant understand how he has declined so far, and/or how the coaching staff can ignore and do nothing about it.

In: Jonas, Watts
Out: Howard, S Gray
No, about Sam Gray as he has earned enough brownie points to cover his past two below par performances. Besides the effects of his “flu” may still be affecting him. That virus should be out of his system by the St Kilda game.
Being at the game and seeing the magic of Robbie Gray and then his body language after the game it wouldn’t surprise me to see him have a week off under the guise of “being managed”. He looked completely stuffed.
Also, a no about Howard as I reckon Hombsch may be dropped along with Pittard, who I thought had a fairly decent game but may be now having hamstring problems.
So that would set up the return of Tommie Jonas & Darcy

Todd will be our key forward for a decade. But atm his shoulder needs attention several times each match, and he cannot hold his ground in the contest atm because of it.
No knock on him. Just needs to build confidence at a lower level for a couple of weeks.
Watts does ok today and he is back in.

He is lovingly called (Captain Butter Fingers) in our house hold.

I am tipping it will go something like this barring any training mishaps.

In : Jonas - Watts - Jones
Out : Pittard - Marshall - Hombsch

If it were up to me.

In : Watts - Jonas
Out : S Gray - Pittard

In saying that it looks like a wet day so this is a dry day selection.

As I said in another thread, he plays the toughest role in our team.

His job as a high forward is to gut run to an inch of space, receive the ball in the heart of the opposition zone with zero support and to move through traffic to will the ball forward where he usually has very little to kick to. It's the hardest role to be efficient in modern football, but it's vital to the way we play.

Sam Gray plays a similar role, maybe slightly further advanced. Nobody else on our list can play the role. Maybe Ebert in a pinch.

If we were nowhere near the 8, he'd be playing bruise free Shaun Burgoyne wing/halfback footy, pinch hitting in the middle just often enough so we know he's still got it. Instead he's playing the hardest role in the team.

Hoping for reports of good performances from Watts, Farrell, Barry and Amon today as there oughta be at least 2 spots up for grabs.

With Boak, to me it looks like he’s always stuck in mud due to being tired or he’s just not thinking fast enough as to where he’s disposing the ball next. He probs should start making it someone elses problem and just slam it on the boot to a contest inside 50 instead of waiting and then getting done for HTB, because it’s happening too often. (aka “far-ken kick it!” in football fans speak)

Trengove could play it.

That's his biggest knock at the moment, at least once a game he burns a golden scoring opportunity and gifts the opposition a team-lifting HTB decision through poor awareness. Fix that and he's playing the role well enough.
