I didn't see the game today, but I've got no doubt Hislop is ready for AFL.

There's a little bit of Shaun Higgins about him, he's just got one of those bodies that is ready to go.

IN: JJ or possibly Hislop if JJ isnt ready, Johns (strong maybe)
OUT: Jetta, Hird (rest him)

I want Johns to come into the side, but im not too sure whether our forward will be too big and when the opposition get the ball we wont be able to chase them and put pressure on them. We will win games by putting pressure on opposition sides and forcing them to hurry their disposal like we have been doing lately and i just don't want to risk that because i think it works, but if it doesn't interfere then i think Johns should come in.

Yeah he's definately ready for AFL physically (he's tanked :p) , but im just wondering if he'd be able to keep up with the pace of the game and would he be able to make a quick adaption from VFL to AFL?

Laycock is more mobile than Hille.

I don't get it, St Kilda don't have a great ruck outfit at the moment and we want to drop one. How bout trying to exploit a weakness?

St Kilda aren't that quick either, how bout we drop Winderlich, Stanton, Lovett, Davey and Jetta?

I actually thought that this game was the ideal time to laycock a good run in the ruck for the reasons you mentioned.

Yes he does look like he can. He is very hard at it and he can get hit and keep playing. He copped aknee in the back during a marking contest in the second quarter and it clearly hurt him but he still attacked it in the same way. He is a tough little bugger.

IMO, if Camporeale and JJ are fit.

In: J Johnson, Camporeale, NLM
Out: Dyson, Heffernan, Jetta

JJ, Campo, Pev and Watson in the same midfield rotation? That is asking for trouble.

I wouldn't be making any huge changes, maybe NLM for Jetta. It wouldn't hurt Jetta to get a decent hit out for bendigo, just so he can touch the leather a little more.

Johns would be picked after todays 6 goals...
I doubt Hird will be rested. Just wont be on the field as much as yesterday..
In: Johns
Out: Jetta

I also think with the 4 day break JJ may be rested but would he play for Bendigo? Because he will have a short break for ANZAC Day anyway if he did

7 wasn't it? :D

And also, on the essendon site it say's NLM is out for 2 more so i don't think we will be seeing NLM this week.

Fully agree with those saying Jim should be rested. From the reports in the Bendigo thread, Hislop deserves a chance and going back and getting plenty of ball should help Jetta. Build his confidence a bit then put him back in for Wednesday, as we know Sheeds likes to throw the young'uns in on the big stage.

Johns may well get picked, but 2 or 3 dominant games (5 goals/10 odd marks or something similar) and some sustained fitness wouldn't hurt him before he comes back in

We also have Paddy Ryder who can play ruck. Hes very mobile as well. When/If Kosi goes in there Ryder can follow him. It would be a great experiece for him I think.

The Saints backline is a running defence. Why wouldnt you attack that weakness and play Johns? Looked in great form today, and with Lloyd and Lucas looking good, it could be a good mix against the Saints. That then gives the question, who do you drop? I didnt say Laycock has to go, but if they bring in Johnson, it may happen for the Saints game, then Laycock would be back for the Magpies game.

And as marcuz said, Jetta didnt get much time yesterday. Players overlooked him sometimes when he was in good positions and that doesent help either. If he can go down to the 2s and play a full game and do really well, it would be great for him I think.

Theres no point bringing Hirdy in and playing him for only a half. We can manage without him and from all reports from Bendigo's win, theres a few who are putting their hand up for this week. Saints are one of those teams we always do well against, especially in the middle. Our biggest threat is Riewoldt, so Fletcher would need to mind him all day if we are to have any chance against them. Im hoping we bring in some experience in the middle in the form of JJ or dare I suggest Campo.

If the balls doesn't land on his chest and it goes to ground, Johns would be useless and as we saw yesterday, we haven't eradicated our poor disposal into our forward 50 just yet.

IN: Johns, Hislop
OUT: Peveril, Jetta/Watson

I dont think Pev should be dropped, he had a great game against the blues and i think that he shouldn't be dropped unless a fit JJ is going to take his spot. Pev is good at getting the clearences (aswell as jobe) so i think he should stay in the team for now until we get someone to replace him who does the same job but does the job better.

IN: Johns, NLM

OUT: Pev, Laycock

- Feel we need a third tall forward that is more imposing that Laycock. Paddy can back Hille up if necessary. The big fella should be able to ruck out 75% of the game and hopefully prove to me he isnt worthless. Laycock should go back and find some form and then come back in. His a liability when the ball hits the floor. Johns should play FF and stretch their defence

- NLM, if his fit brings more to the team than Pev IMO. Pev has been in great form, dont get me wrong and Im not against him staying in the team, but there was nobody else I want to exclude other than maybe Heff.

- Maybe even bring Houli in for Jetta, not too sure though

St Kilda Matchups

Riewoldt - McPhee

Gherig - Michael

Kosi - Ryder

Fletch - floater

Milne (will he play?) - Slattery

Dal Sano - Heff

Hayes - Watson

if someone was to debut it would be Hislop. Houli hasn't shown he is ready for AFL yet

Has Hislop? Don't get me wrong, I think he has a lot of talent but he's only played one proper VFL game and the only senior football he's played is the All-Stras game. I think he should string some VFL games to gether before he's thrown in.

Thats why i said if someone was too...

I'm not going to try to pick the ins and outs just yet but i think there are 3 guys who definately should be considered strongly for this week, those being Johns, Jason Johnson and Camporeale. If Johns is brought in, I feel Laycock has to be dropped. I don't think we can afford that many talls out there and Hille, with some help from Ryder, could manage the ruck. Jason Johnson will be looked at so soon because of the trouble we had with clearances against Carlton. Another extractor could well be quite handy. The question is who goes out for him. As much as he deserves to hold his place, it could well be Peverill. Pev's been in good form but compromising speed is something Sheeds won't want to do. As for Camporeale, the obvious change for him is Dyson but there are still question marks as to whether or not Campo is ready, same for JJ.

Other names that have been mentioned as players that shouldn't play are Jetta and Hird. I think Leroy could well be kept for positional reasons. There are not a heap of Forward Pockets in that side and he also has useful pace. Sheeds will want to give him time as well. As for Hird, resting him for ANZAC Day is overly cautious unless he pulls up very sore. The guys playing well and he'll want to string games together. On top of that, St. Kilda are a tough opponent and are going to be hard to beat, more so than Collingwood. I expect him to play.

If would be footy suicide if we dropped both Pev and Watson this week.

In: JJ ( unless he needs another run in the twos )
Out : Jetta ( needs a full run in the twos )
Absolutely. Can't see any reason why JJ shouldn't be back, and definitely not at the expense of Watson

pev is ahead of heff in the pecking order. if one of those two were going to be dropped it will be heff

pev killed dal santo last year so i see no reason why he wouldn't play on him again.

hirdy is not going to want to sit out this week after he has had a great game. we have to win this week to steer the ship in the right direction. this week's game is more important than the anzac day match

johns deserves selection after his 7 goals. therefore one of hille or laycock should be dropped.

if jj is fit enough he should be picked as he is our best midfielder when up and running

give campo one more game before putting him in. he can perform on the big stage. if hirdy isn't fit for anzac day he is a ready made replacement

in: johns, jj
out: hille/laycock, heff
