At this stage, we have to beat them across our half forward line, particularly the Fishers and Gram and simply have someone keep Riewoldt down to less than 10 marks. I dare say Nick rarely kicks any goals on the run or in general play so Fletcher would be ideal for him. They wont be able to hold Lloyd or Lucas down for 4 quarters...Ill go as far as saying one of them will bag at least 7 this weekend.

Laycock should be dropped because he never should ahve been in the team in the first place - I thought we learnt with JJ last year - don't rush injured players straight into the team.

As a few have mentioned - Ryder in the ruck in the last when the game is on the line - hmmmmm.

Bring in Bradley as a second ruck or use Ryder - Whitnall exposed Laycock not for around the ground speed or endurance -but for Laycocks effectivness around the ground. Go to Bendigo - get some confidence - then return.

Didn't Laycock have 5 shots at goal against Freo? I'd say not to bad for a bloke playing his 1st game of the year rotating between the bench, ruck and up forward. A bit quiet last week I know, but most of our side took a siesta in the 2nd half.

if he has to be rested for one of the next two games, which one does he miss ? the logical answer is the anzac day, but i think sheeds is too much of a romantic to leave him out for what should be known as HIS day. And plus i read somewhere they were organising a tribute for Jimmy on the day ? wouldnt be surprised if he is named against the saints this week and comes up with the windy hill flu on saturday morning....

Yeah thats what i would prefer too, he was our best player on the weekend we need him. but sheeds has been crapping on about prolonging his career and getting the best out of him for so long that its almost hypocritical for him to play. We need him vs St Kilda. We can't afford to be too clever. If the games were the other way around you'd play him this week and rest him on the Wednesday no hesitation, but because of the day it is I think he'll play both.

I want more than anything to see him embarrass the pies again. If he plays less than 70% this week I think he'll be right to go. Pity it's at the Dome as that'll take more out of his legs.

Saying that, he'll prolly do something completely stupid and pull out 2 B.O.G's in 5 days.

You tend to be at your best in your first game before the niggles - then you drop in form before after about 5-6 games you get back up to your best - at least with normal players.

It is sad for two reasons, 1) he has the potential and shows glimpes every now and then and 2) it's one of the biggest reasons why we haven't been up to go up another notch, getting beaten at the tap outs and clearances and losing momentum is a big reason we lose a lot of close games. We need to be more consistent in the ruck to compliment our young midfielders who are growing and learning still, Hille is at the age where he needs to take the next step, if he doesn't want to or can't we need to look at Laycock then Paddy

Fair call - I have never thought he is a good tap ruckman - however Laycock needs runs in his legs and I think he will do better from a few Bendigo hit outs. Just my opinion.

I like Hille too , good bloke around the club, nice guy. Is well regarded and everyone likes him. Wont win him any ruck contest though. At some stage he has to be looked at. I realise he is unlikely to be dropped but hey it will be a problem for us if he continues at the same level.

Can someone tell me how much time on ground Hird has gotten? Here in Sydney the Herald Sun doesn't show that kinda stuff. He's been amazing considering how little he seems to be on the ground. Does anyone know if his TOG is going to be decreased even further?

And I totally agree with the ruck problem mentioned above. That game against Freo was so embarrassing. Sandilands was just humiliating us at the taps. Our midfield is improving, but it will be hard for it to compete if we're not able to win the ball at the stoppages.

Thanks alot mate. What do you mean "If he plays against the Saints"?! Is Sheedy planning to sit him out of entire matches just for safety? Or is it something else?

More of a safety thing. 4 day turnaround until ANZAC day so there might be a feeling Hird won't pull up for that. Don't expect him to miss other games though, just need to make sure he is right to win his 4th ANZAC day medal.
