If Laycock plays for Bendigo this week, you rule him out of playing Anzac Day as well. He won't get up for it in three days.
what's wrong with that???
if he doesn't deserve selection this week why would he get a a game against the pies???

More of a safety thing. 4 day turnaround until ANZAC day so there might be a feeling Hird won't pull up for that. Don't expect him to miss other games though, just need to make sure he is right to win his 4th ANZAC day meday.
we can't be thinking about round 5. "one game at a time"
hirdy has to play a role this week. even if it is only 10-15 minutes a quarter

I agree, but we don't know how Hirdy's body is holding up. I'm sure he would rather have a good crack on his last Anzac day than pull up sore after Saturday and possibly miss out. Just on a side note, Surely The Afl could have scheduled 2 games on Friday night so Essendon and Collingwood could play and have an extra day of recovery.

He does deserve his place in the team, he's our second best ruckman .The question mark was over his match fitness.

We need him in the side, but yes he does need match fitness.

Playing him at Bendigo this week doesn't make us a better side because we'll be without our second best ruckman for two games, not just one.

By the time he'd get back in the senior side (Round 6), there is every chance he could run himself into that sort of fitness by playing in the seniors anyway.

Interesting- how many minutes did Laycock play in the ruck against Carlton ?

you can't run a guy into form in the seniors. that is what the vfl is for.
it would be good to see what paddy has to offer in the ruck anyway

It's not about form, it's fitness.
You can run a guy into fitness anywhere.

If we drop him, we shoot ourselves in the foot. We have an opportunity in the next two games to go up against two teams with weak ruck units and you want to drop our second best ruckman? We have an opportunity to take advantage, but you want us to go back to a level playing field?

That doesn't make sense to me.

And Ryder has just started to make a position his own, why would we change that?

because against the saints and pies there is matchup for paddy

wouldn't you say that carlton have a weak ruck unit???
i didn't see our two big ruckman taking any type of advantage

Of course they have a weak ruck unit, they also have a weak defense. We didn't take advantage of that either, but we won't be dropping our forwards.

Both St Kilda and Collingwood can go tall forward.

Re: chages 4 saints match

fair call.. Be interesting to see Lloyd Lucas Johns combo....worth a try while saitns are strugglin for bigger backmen with no mauguire and hudghton

So St Kilda don't normally play three tall forwards?

I know Gehrig is out, but it's very possible they could play Brooks forward or even debut Sweeny.

Collingwood didn't play Rocca, Cloke and Toovey (who's a similar height to Mal) forward on the weekend? And have Fraser who pushes forward?

Id be hoping our forwards hold into their marks, as their running backs will definitely make it difficult for us to keep the ball in our forward 50.

They'll probably bring in a kid into the middle and slot Fiora into where Gram usually sits if he doesnt make it.

Re: chages 4 saints match

I'm still not sure about bringing Johnson in. He would have to be 100% otherwise he would struggle to come up for ANZAC day. The other thing is that Dyson didn't do much wrong, so he should get another match to try and prove himself

Dyson at the same time did not do a whole lot Saturday either and there is a history of younger players being dropped from losing sides.

Dyson would probably only play 50% of the game again, Johnson would be expected to have a much bigger impacted on the game in the same amount of time on the ground

Re: chages 4 saints match

i wouldnt make to many changes, we need to take inot consideration we play on the wendsday anzac day as well, i would drop laycock for johns thats it, campo and johnson need to prove themselves first
