2 days later, I've had time to think a bit more...

OUT:
Bradley - hack
Head - hack
Tarrant - if he's not being played as a backman, he simply isn't best 22 as a forward

IN:
Duffield - has to play every game from here on in & in the midfield
Hayden - best 22 without a doubt
Campbell - better option than Tarrant in forward line

RUCK: Sandilands/Crowley/Palmer
FOR: Solomon/Campbell/Peake
HFOR: Schammer/Pavlich/Gilmore
CEN: Hill/Hasleby/Duffield
HBCK: Mundy/McPharlin/Johnson
BCK: Hayden/Grover/Broughton

BENCH: Dodd/Ibbotson/Suban/Hinkley

Just in regards to Roger Hayden, I was in freo for the buskers festival on Saturday and poked my head into freo oval. 2 ppl were there one was Roger Hayden and the other was Im guessing from a distance "robocop". Hayden was just running lap after lap after lap, at a pretty good clip too.

Didnt look to be hampered by the hamstring, at the time I thought he may have been doing a fitness test and a late inclusion yesterday. From what I seen he will be back this week.

Thanks for the news on Roger Hayden.

He will help make freo a much better side.

De Boer - run with role replacing Dodd - see above
Clarke - can take a mark in the forward line - replaces Bradley - see above

RUCK: Sandilands/Crowley/Palmer

HFOR: Schammer/Pavlich/Mundy

Were you busking or watching? If busking, with pistols, guitar or spoons?? And how much dosh did you collect off of those lefty Freo Market shoppers??

If Roger is fit he starts.
Head goes no matter what.
Gilmore should get another game. he was out gunned by Tippet who is a giant and pretty handy to go with it. Made Happy look like a boy. If Gilmore was told not run off his man then he followed instructions. If he purposely didn't attack ( most of the game) from defense then he'll be lucky to be on the plane this week.

This bit, right here in purple, is why this last 18 months has been sooooooooooooo frustrating.

Seriously, given most of us watch/play/coach/umpire a fair bit of footy, why is it that we watch a Freo game and, at the end of it, we aren't sure if the players' approaches to the game are because of the roles they were TOLD to play by the coaches, or the options they CHOSE to pursue as players on the day???

Have the tactics or gameplan of an AFL side ever been so consistently obscure and bewildering???

Whaaaaaa??? You serious?? Campbell, who played WAFL ressies, is a btter option than Taz????

BTW, in your proposed lineup, I'd swap Soloman for Johnson (MJ to the forward line), Schammer for Hase, and Gilmore for Hill. After last week, Palmer needs some opportunity to re-build confidence in his kicks away from goals, whereas Hill is just a gun near goals. A freak.

OUT:
Bradley - hack (not a hack, but out for Clarke IMHO)
Head - hack
Gimore - hack
Dodd - hack (HARSH!!)
Soloman - in retired mode (HARSH!!)

IN:
Duffield - has to play every game from here on in (WHY - why is he 'entitled' to 18 games??) & in the midfield
Hayden - best 22 without a doubt
Campbell - or Murphy? can one of them stand up!
De Boer - run with role replacing Dodd - see above (No - too small and doesn't have the endurance. More likely to assist Suban and Hill as an extra rotating small defender or mid than replace Dodd)
Clarke - can take a mark in the forward line - replaces Bradley - see above

I like the changes and agree with them, but don't think there will be this many.

Saturday night at the Dome will be no time or place to introduce 1st gamers or for that matter a bloke with dodgy hamstrings. Duffield in, take your pick for the out. On the other hand I reckon our blokes will still be cooked from playing in the heat on Sunday so bring in Thornton, Murphy, Campbell, Browne and Drum, leave out the five youngest.

DeBoer is 187 and listed at 85, probably put on a bit since then. Hardly small.

Yep, And Dodd's 193 cm, with a substantially better jump, more endurance, and 5 seasons of AFL under his belt. No comparison IMHO, but feel free to ask DeBoer to cover Goddard, Sam Gilbert, Dawson, Kosi or Blake.

OUT: Head
IN: Duffield

Murphy to come in if McPharlin is rubbed out. Tarrant to the backline and Murphy to stay at FF.

If Clarke plays well tomorrow and King is suspended, I'd be tempted to give Zach some experience at Bradley's expense. (Though if McPharlap misses, Bradley's less likely to be dropped.)

I'm hoping Drum is a late addition to the Perth side and can stake a claim for Gilmore's spot. (Although if Clarke gets a shot, Happy may be retained as cover regardless.)

I'm not sure if Hayden will be back this week?

There's a few variables at the moment. We'll know more later in the week.

Why is it that Murphy regularly kicks bags at SF but for Freo plays under some sort of invisible cloaking device . I say make him chf but make him get involved in play more - he just disappears for long periods. If players like Lloyd or Hall arent getting much action they come up the ground and get involved . Murphy needs to do that .

Nah, I reckon Pav goes alright at CHF.

One of the reasons Murphy struggles at AFL level is he is played up the ground more - and he just isn't good enough at it. He's not that great when the ball hits the deck and can't impose himself physically when things aren't going right. He's better off at FF (preferably with a bit of space) where he can utilise his strengths: marking one on one and kicking for goal. (I still believe he's a beautiful kick and last year was more an aberation.)

Raise the white flag you reckon yakamoto? I would have a hernia if that was the outcome of the selection meeting.

I do agree that this isn't the time to be blooding too many new players though. (The only one I'd consider would be Clarke.) Not because of the opposition but because they've had interrupted pre-seasons and/or they just aren't physically ready. All things going well, de Boer should play in the next few weeks, along with Clarke and Ballantyne. By then Campbell and Mayne should be back and we'll have a few more options to work with.

Well that's hardly a compelling argument. You do realize both Dawson and Blake are playing as key defenders, Gilbert is playing similar to a Michael Johnson or Waite, and Kosi is their FF. Dodd wouldn't play on any of these guys anyway.

Seeing as St.Kilda's two best players at the moment are Montagna and Dal Santo, I think deBoer would match up quite well, and as far as I know there are no question marks in regards to his endurance.

If that is correct I suggest he spends the rest of his career in the WAFL

Soloman should definatley play.

One assignment - take out that f*#$wit Baker.
Unfinished business.

Sorry to bother you guys but how far off is Deboer from making his debut.I was hoping the lions would take him and was so shocked when he lasted past the 2nd round let a lone not getting drafted at all:eek:.I was one of very few people who didn't bag him and I think you guys have got a good one here.Good luck guys for your season ahead and once again sorry for bothering you.

Very polite of you ! People are a bit touchy on this site lately.

He was named in the 25 last week, I reckon he's pretty close !!
He may make this week, depending on who they drop !! HEAD would be a good choice. Once again very polite and feel free to drop by anytime !!

Judging from the article on the AFL website, it certainly seems like they will be the changes. I do think we need Campbell, and maybe Clarke, too though.

It's a shame about Broughton, although at least he has had a game to show what he can do.

Thank you sumavich.

I'm gonna be controversial here and say nobody should be making a debut in this one.

If things go to form we're gonna get really badly smashed here, that could set a kid on debut back rather than being a positive experience.

The bigger the bodies and the more experience we can have here is probably better...

In saying that I do look forward to seeing Deboer, Ballantyne and possibly Clarke playing before the mid season break. Just not in this game.

Hayden + Duffield in
Brown + Broughton out

"Morale is really good. "The challenge for the group is to be able to sustain what we've got and to and see whether that's good enough to beat a side like St Kilda knowing they are playing at their peak.
The Dockers will be boosted by the return of sweeping defender Roger Hayden, who missed the opening three games of the season with a hamstring injury.
"He's a quality player and he's a player we've sadly missed," Harvey said.
"Against a hard-running side with a lot of small, good forwards, Roger will need to play at least 80 per cent of game time."
Paul Duffield also returns after spending a week in the WAFL, replacing last week's debutant Greg Broughton, who has been ruled out with an ankle injury.
Ruckman Aaron Sandilands failed to train on Wednesday but Harvey said there were no injury concerns with the 211cm giant.
But injury-plagued veteran Des Headland (calf/Achilles tendon) is still at least three weeks away from resuming in any capacity, while a similar time frame has been put on young forward Chris Mayne (foot).
Midfielder Andrew Browne has been ruled out for up to a month after sustaining ligament damage in his shoulder.

I'm all for dropping Browne after he failed to register a single stat. On closer inspection however, I'll think you'll find he didn't play.

I don't think there's anything wrong with dropping him two weeks in a row but the AFL might have a problem with us running out with 23 players. We could use the extra help though.

FWIW, the article I read never said Broughton was out, more that he just hurt his ankle. Harvey said he played through it. So he might be ok.
