You are happy with Sydney having a extra 2 day break on the back of us coming back from Perth?
No, I think the notion that the fixture is particularly bad for us is laughable. We play on a Friday night at home in Round 23. That should be a pretty handy advantage when it really matters.

So should we tread carefully around Butcher's confidence issues then? C'mon, he's barely played a good game at SANFL level. I'd love nothing more than for Butch to get his shit together but right now he's not and AFL standard footballer. What's more he's fast running out of time to prove he is one. We're in our premiership window and simply don't have time to mollycoddle Butcher and his confidence issues.
This^^^

I'm sick to death of this patience with Butcher shit. If you arnt dominating SANFL why is he in this side.

That may well be so, but how is he supposed to prove that he is AFL standard in the SANFL? I just don't see the point of discarding someone after a relatively poor game, in the first round of the season.

So round 1-5 doesn't matter? Right.

We have to actually make the finals and top 4 first.

Have you not seen the other poor games he's dished out? I haven't seen a good one yet.

You prove you are Afl standard by dominating at a much lower level. He's yet to even do that and we have him propped up forward standing there like he has no idea against a top 4 side in a pressure cooker.

No, I'm saying that the advantage of the fixture in Round 23 probably outweighs the disadvantage of the fixture in Round 1.

Then you're either blind, or being stupidly hyperbolic.

He went okay in the game before tonight's...

You realise we'd have to play those teams other times anyway. Get it out of the way and we have a clear run.

Had Lobbe played tonight Butcher wouldn't have. We should be picking our best available team and quite frankly I don't think Butcher is in that team.

And on Redden, at least if he's getting beaten as a forward we have ourselves a high quality, albeit slightly underdone, tap ruckman who frees up Ryder to play forward and Westhoff to roam. If Butcher's getting beaten by his opponent what do we have? A key forward getting beaten by his opponent.

Redden playing forward lol why don't we just give the opposition a free man to rebound with

In a heartbeat.

I'm with you on this one. finny. Re Shaw and Harvey, Shaw has barely played this pre-season and I'd back Redden to outlast Harvey.

In the Freo game Redden would have had to jump against Sandi sure but would he have been beaten any worse than the under-prepared Ryder? And at least then we would have Ryder as a forward option and rucking against Clarke where he might have given us an advantage.

It's not just round 1.. It's the teams we are playing against plus the extra break our opposition has. Coming back from Perth on top of it

He started off excellently, as evidenced by him getting mugged on and off the ball at just about every contest thereafter.

I'm all for marking harshly given where we're at from a strategic sense, but with a friendlier crowd reaction to him getting fancy a bum'd every three seconds he could well have had the vital 1 or 2 extra goals that Pav received when it mattered most.

Fixtures are never going to be the make or break part of a team's season. Good teams win, no matter who the opposition is.

When it comes down to it, we play each team once, then Adelaide and 4 other teams again. It's not that big of a difference.

Westhoff was horrible I agree but has atleast proved himself

What in a Nab game? Seriously..

The intensity was slightly different tonight mate
"Have you not seen the other poor games he's dished out? I haven't seen a good one yet."

I provided you with a game that Butcher played well in. Another was the last game of the minor round against Glenelg last year.

Not related but I know him well along with a lot of the Power players...I am only on his case because I am so impressed with what he has done this year and also the limited opportunities he had last year..If we can give Neade and Butcher a go (based on What??) surely we can consider a versatile performer who is doing well..Geez some are criticising him because he played a blinder against Goodwood.....I will get on somebody else's wagon soon
Carry on then. :)
