Anyone feel Impey or Whitey could be replaced by O'Shea for this game?

(Young + Lobbe in for Neade + Butch is practically a given)
Impey was outstanding. Does he have a direct match up against Sydney?

Anyone who thinks Redden is ready to play AFL is nuts, we where good enough with one ruck last year what makes us not good enough this year?

I like the thought of bringing in Young against Sydney, our in side mids are going to need all the help they can get.

We weren't good enough last year. Hence why we didn't win the flag.

But with the age of our list I have no doubt we have the scope to improve more than any side in the top 8.

To win a flag a lot needs to go right, like kicking straight in a final, or umpires making correct calls.

Great teams still don't win flags because the planets dont alline.

I belive we are a great team just need them planets to straighten up at the right time.

Redden will play...Butch out...the worry is Neade who , If he doesn't get the free kick is next to useless White would also have to have a big one as we are finding out why he was a sub at Richmond for so long

So you don't believe if we had a 2nd ruck last year maybe that's when the planets may have aligned? Unfortunately we will never know and as it currently sits, we were just not got enough.

As far as I'm concerned, the changes should be:

OUT:
- Neade
- Butcher

Neade really had a shocking game. I really like the little man, he provides so much spark to the team when he is in form. The fact is though that, due to no real fault of his own (I've been told that he has had a really great off-season on the track, not so much in NAB), he's just not there yet. I haven't watched the replay, but from being at the game, he tried to do too much at least twice in the first quarter that burnt goals (one where a simple handball to boak in space would have resulted in a fairly elementary goal, but he instead tried to spin through two tackles). I'm not sure that seeing this on TV would accurately reflect this.

Butcher started that game very well, and from watching live was 'around' the contest quite a lot. Burnt Wines midway through the 4th which was disappointing, but he was there crashing packs and at least making a solid contest of perhaps the best (if not best, then the best-coached) defense in the league. I would love to keep him in the team, but from a pure structure perspective he has to go assuming that Lobbe is fit.

IN:
- Young
- Lobbe

Young has had a brilliant pre-season. Anyone who watched any of his NAB games would see that he is raring to go. I've had a lot of time for Young since his game against Richmond in the 2012 draw farcical. He provides that extra midfield rotation that allows Wingard / Gray to have a little bit more time up the field, is as hard as nails (that clash/bump against Geelong last year), and most importantly is in superb form. No idea why he wasn't playing last week. One of the few times that I have really looked at the teamsheet and gone "holy sh**t, why isn't xxxx playing". He plays more of the Monfries role than the Neade role comparatively, but his inclusion will be a very big net-positive in my opinion.

Lobbe is our number one ruck, and one of the best workhorses in the game in my opinion. Would only get dropped if Primus and Lade were 12 years younger and were still on our list. So much respect for this brute of an individual, who simply gives his all every game. I simply cannot wait to see him in tandem with Ryder. I might have to wear some adult diapers to the ground on Saturday night - which might be helpful as I'm meant to be going out afterwards anyways.

Some Comments:

I really like the spark that Neade gives us in the forward line. However, I've said it before, and I'll say it again - It's tough to have such a short team with both Neade and Impey. Both have their roles, and while I have a great amount of time for Neade, I would not be adverse to seeing Impey being thrown into the forward line as a defensive forward against Jetta this week. This is the type of role that Monfries 'should' be playing, but he's clearly a little underdone, and in any case is a fair bit slower off the mark than Jetta anyway. Great opportunity for Impey if he doesn't have a direct defensive matchup, who had a stellar game last week.

For god sake, don't play Monfries as the sub. I love 'Gus, but he's not an instant impact player. You can't put him in the midfield and expect him to extract ala Young/Moore. I would like to see White as the sub this week. He didn't have a great game last week, but he is a player that plays his 'best' when our ball movement is at optimum. If our strategy this year is to slow that down somewhat ala Hawthorn, then his effect is somewhat negated. He is an instant impact player who easily runs off his opponent. So, if he isn't in terrific form, let us accentuate his positives and play him for 1 to 2 quarters.

I also would not be averse to seeing Paul Stewart / O'Shea in the team, especially if Impey is given the job on Jetta. It's just a very difficult team to crack into at the moment, and boy is that a good thing.

Very unlucky - he's shown a lot in so many of his 31 career games, even as sub. Meanwhile, Kane Mitchell played 23 games as a rookie. Young has shown enough to deserve an extended run.

For anyone thinking Trengove should ruck at his press conference today there seems to be nothing worse for him than play ruck. There goes my dream of him being a Ruckman lol

It's difficult to know when to tackle and when to corral. Twice last year against Sydney Bobby Carlile did what would have been expected to be the right thing and kept Lance Franklin away from goal without rushing in and tackling him so he could side-step. Unfortunately on both occasions Franklin was able to dob long goals. On at least one of those occasions Bobby had the chance to tackle but could possibly have been side-stepped so just protected the area.

Against Freo, Neade was caught in the very same kind of double choice in the forwards. However, he definitely should not have tackled as he was just easily brushed aside. The ball was bouncing and the Freo defender was on toast if Neade just stood there until nearby reinforcements appeared. If Hinkley plays Neade again I hope he noticed that passage and has pointed it out. Pressure is not always just strong bodywork but making sure someone has nowhere to go.

The frustrating part is, I believe we WERE good enough, but poor goal kicking stuffed up our chances. Yeah I know - if you can't kick, you can't play, and all that. But for a reasonable part of that preliminary final, we made an awesome team in Hawthorn look second rate.

The big unknown for me is, if we find ourselves in a similar position in a big final this year, will we take our chances in front of the big sticks better than we did last year?

Redden will not play.

He is way off in terms of fitness. You could tell he was stuffed 3/4 into that trial game vs Richmond.

Let him get some SANFL games under his belt and he MAY get some games later.
