If only the WCE game was this week, we could rest everyone then have 1 last hitout against Sydney.

Just do it the other way around.
Rest Sloane, Talia and Tex if they are carrying injuries, assess their progress and play them in WA next round if they are ready. It doesn't matter about 'psychological advantage' it's a crock of s**t anyway.
It's on the day, come with the right attitude and previous results count for nothing. Geelong may have had the wood on us but we went out and played with aggression and intent and those other games counted for zero.
Port were leading the showdowns by 5 a few years ago now we are in front, I don't think their greater win percentage meant anything.
We beat Sydney in Adelaide last year and got smacked in Sydney, how come our psychological advantage didn't get us over the line.

It wasn't all because the game was in Sydney (though that helps) but partly because we played injured, cooked and fatigued players. (JJ, Thommo and Jacobs.)
A couple of players also played timid and bruise free football, not the type of style needed to win finals. Sydney are also a very physical and good football team, so you need to be playing at your optimum.

Do what's right for the teams future success.
If they are right to play so be it but if they're not don't take the chance.
Players don't lose fitness by missing a game or two, they still work hard on the track but the body doesn't need to recover from a physical encounter.
I thought Pyke was turning into a Neil Craig clone and wouldn't change his thinking but his game plan against Geelong made me re-assess my opinion. Lets see what the match selection do this week, we'll know if a player is struggling early on, if they are what are we actually gaining from playing them?

Psychological schmicological.

Part right, the injured part. That cost us more than anything.

Giving a lot your players two weeks off then coming back for one of the biggest games of the year

Youre going with a lot of unknowns might work, might not

It's tricky with the week off after Round 23.

But you'd have to think leaving Tex and Sloane out this week is a huge consideration.

I'm just stirring marty! I agree with mate.

TBH Im not disagreeing too much with resting players, it would seem stupid to play Tex and Sloane this week and maybe next week Sauce maybe and another Gun

But not too much, 30% which is 7 players seems ok over the two weeks maybe 3 each week tops and obviously those carrying somethng that could do with a break

Eddie shoudl be fine, Tex, Sloane, Talia, Jacobs are your main ones maybe Matt Crouch against West coast he is almost become one of the most important player in the team ATM and even Richie Douglas

Probably No Newman this week for Sydney.

Lets throw a spanner in the works for the swans, stuff up there run and make them think twice. Don't give them a psychological advantage over us. Win this week next weeks irrelevant.

Could be worth a punt to take syd at 2.25 especially if there is rested players.. dont wait untril they come right in when the squads are announced

Lastly throw in it's going to be played on our home deck and not the smaller confines of the SCG which suit them much better. There's absolutely no reason why we can't win this and even win it by a few goals if we can impose our game on them. I'm not saying that will happen but if we have an on night they're going to be up against to stop us scoring all night while putting a big enough score on themselves.

Going to be interesting to see how this plays out, not a bad thing to get a look at Sydney just before finals whatever the result turns out to be anyway.
I think you summed the game situation up very well, but had to chuckle at this bit.

Wording was probably a bit lazy though I guess it depends on how you view it - SCG a bit wider, Adelaide Oval a bit longer. Sydney like Adelaide are more formidable on their familiar ground. One of Sydney's strengths especially at the SCG is their ability to use the extra width where as Adelaide has still had a tendency to play that ground like it's long rather then use the extra space out wide then cut back in as I've watched Sydney do to us time and time again.

In any case looking forward to this one a lot. I do hope we are full strength but if any of our players aren't fully healthy they definitely need to rest as we can drop this one without any dire consequences. While it would be a shame as it has potential to be one of the better matches of the year it's not really some do or die clash for us (or Sydney for that matter). Really good time to run into each other anyway on the eve of finals to see if either side is lacking in an area or two that need some focus before the business end.

Oddly enough the corresponding match up last year was one of my favourite games for the the season, despite us being on the losing side. Two sides that match up pretty well and it'll be awesome if this was a preview of bigger things to come in September!

Campo said Tex and Sloane are fine to play so none of this resting crap.

But you do play players who had a minor injury in the game from the previous week and have overcome that injury.

Then they aren't injured
