We have to be looking 3 weeks ahead now. JJ had an ankle issue, Tex ankle and Sloan knee. All need to be rested.

Otten and Menzel to come in and play forward. Douglas to shift across to cover Sloane. Seeds to cover Douglas. I would be ok if the Gooch got a shot over Seeds instead.

Yeah let's rest players who are fit to play against the in-form team of the comp

They played the game out. People really do exaggerate on minor injuries like this.

Don't get me wrong
I want them playing
I want them winning and I want to be able to boo Tippett !

If Tex or Sloane were not "right" why would you risk them ?

We can only go by what we're told - Sloane admitted there would be a big load of recovery ahead of him this week and if Walker had scans and then starts limping .....

I hope they're both 100%
But if they're not - week off

Blight also said "you don't flirt with form"

Whats more important - a home and away game when we already have top 2 locked in, or avoiding a repeat of last years situation where players like JJ limped into the finals and were useless.

I've always said players shouldn't play if they're not right, but I don't agree with resting our stars just for the sake of resting.

Carrier pigeon takes a long time to get to Canberra.
Nah.. I just don't place a whole lot of faith in SANFL games, particularly when the player in question has already put a thick red texta line through his name at the selection committee.

I think most players would want to keep playing
But if a week freshens them up ... horses for courses

Best 22 every week I reckon

Who else "limped" into the finals last year?

They didn't limp, they were clearly injured.

In the Showdown Roo mention 4 players that were injured and played in the Swans final, they were JJ, Sauce, Brown and Cheney.

If players are injured I cant see the club playing them after last year and the tone of Roo's commentary in the showndown also suggests that won't happen.

If players are cleared fit to play they'll play. The message from Pyke is they will not "rest" players that are fit to play.

At this time of year not all players are 100% niggle free, lets not be naive about that.

The club will look at the risk of picking players who have niggles, given what happened last year I have faith they wont make the same mistake of playing an injured player.

Who do you guys think is more damaging for them with ball in hand in the Swans backline, Rampe or Zac Jones?

I think Rampe is the better defender, but Jones provides more run and carry. Would like to see him manned up by Knight on Friday, Hawthorn stopped his run and the lack of rebound was pretty evident.

Oddly enough the corresponding match up last year was one of my favourite games for the the season, despite us being on the losing side. Two sides that match up pretty well and it'll be awesome if this was a preview of bigger things to come in September!
Yes was match of the year for many including myself.

Changes:
You know what is a good change for once? Actually having players like Douglas, Mackay and Smith in form! How ****ing good is it see, when we actually have 22 contributors on the field. Charlie is probably the only one that is really lacking right now, however seeing these senior players really hitting their straps at the back end of the season on the even if Finals is a massive plus, it's almost unchartered territory! Pretty keen to see if after all these years, we can go into a finals series with these sort of senior players standing up when the heat is on, and not just relying on the superstars to get us over the line.

Also, I has a question.... (thought Id post in here as most would see)

Was anyone actually at the game vs the Bombers ?

During the Showdown, we lined up at almost every centre bounce with a new tactic. We rarely had anyone running in off the back of the centre square and instead had 6 forwards. BUT, 2 of our forwards at almost every single centre bounce (was mainly Knight, Gov and Lynch) would line up on the wing of the centre square in the front half of the ground. Atkins, Smith and others who played on the wing, instead of lining up in the middle of the wing, would take up a more defensive position in the back half of the ground along the edges of the square.

I'm not really sure what this was designed to do? My thinking is that maybe we were really trying to hem Port in and stop their spread from the centre square as they really like to shuffle the ball around a lot before putting that kick into the 50. But Port were being completely outplayed on the inside at all stages of the game and rarely go to do what they wanted, so it was hard to see if this new found 'pincer' sort of tactic if you would call it that was actually working?

I would have thought against a side like Essendon who like the move the ball quick and really run in waves, we might have seen this tactic rolled out again, but it was very hard to see from the broadcast on Fox. Anyone notice anything of the like?

Going to keep this simple.
We have 3 home games left for the year, and we need to win all 3. yes Need, beating Sydney at home is a must if we expect to beat them in the finals.
We should be going 100% out to win this game, It a Home game against a Team expected to go deep into the Finals and We Owe them.

But I am worried about Kelly injury wise Knee did not look good and hearing nothing from the Club, however, believe we have the perfect cover for him in Doedee.
So therefore
CC out Gallucci in like for like.
CC is fast becoming a Downhill skier, Sat was another example bugger all impact when the game was there to be won
He does need a rest and with Only 2 SANFL games to go, it has to happen soon if they want to get him some confidence.

We win this. No resting unless genuinely unfit. Don't flirt with your form.

Yep, that's how we've always rolled when sitting near the top of the ladder near the end of the minor round and it's always paid handsome dividends. There is 4 points on offer this weekend and we must go full throttle to collect them. We need everyone sticking up their hand to play, injured or not.

Don't be silly.

Yep, we did this nearly every centre bounce.
We had 4 guys on the wing/edge of the square every bounce. 2 attacking, 2 defensive.
Essendon's 2/3 loose players were playing in our forward 50.

Hmmmm, very interesting.

I was always so frustrated at us forever having 5 forwards and seeming to always kick to their loose man.

Now we have 4 due to this tactic! Interesting little mix up from Pyke there, but I can't complain as our centre square and stoppage work has been really good of late.

yeah i actually made a mental note of it during the game because I remember somebody speaking about it after the Port game.
Not sure if it was on the crow cast or in here but yeah we definitely rolled with 4 guys on the wing at each bounce. We seemed to have more of a spread through there.

Three home games? Its 2 or 4 depending on which way you look at it.

Tex had scans during the week and hurt his foot during the game, that's minor?

Rory said yesterday he has a knee issue and hurt it again and he's been icing it, is that minor?

We can't fall from top 2, you wouldn't rest any of these guys?
