There are many on this board with very short memories of last year's finals series.
Do you remember Jacobs from last year's finals series? Jenkins? Brown?

Hopefully the club learned from their sheer idiocy.

Yeah that's what a Sydney supporter would say ;)
You know if you let us win by a lot, there is no way Port can make top 4 right? Let your hatred of Port guide you.

If we're good enough to beat Sydney during the home and away, we're good enough to beat them during the finals.

We're playing them at some point anyway during finals so why take the risk on injuries?

We need to embrace playing against the best and beating them. The best way to do that is to go in full strength in the final.
I don't disagree we will need to beat them to win the flag... but I'm against gifting them wins.

So what you're saying is you want us to risk players and win, because although we would have beaten them in round 22, you aren't confident we'd beat them again a few weeks later?
No. But i dont think well rest tex and talia at the same time. We wont give sydney a leg up. Remember we have a week off before finals.
Its a fine balance. Tough.

I for one was pretty pleased to miss you guys in the finals in 2005 and 2006 considering back then we could not beat your team even if most of your players had their ankles tied together.

Indeed, I was one of the most critical if you recall.

So again I ask you, which player is struggling at the moment?

Ok this is purely a hypothetical.

If you had these two choices which would you chose

1)We beat Sydney next week, they miss top 4, but Sloane is out for the season due to injury.
2)We lose to Sydney next week, they make top 4 and we play them week 1. We have an injury free list for week 1 of finals.

Now do we know scenario 1 or 2 will happen? no, but it's about what risks 1 and what gives us the best chance for 2.

We're most likely going to have to beat both Sydney and GWS, maybe twice, in the finals, if we want the flag. This "don't let Swans get 4th argument" is silly - we will have to beat the best. Let's control what we can.

That starts with resting Sloane and Walker this week.

Sloane's knee
Talia's groin
Tex's foot/ankle
Kelly's knee
Whatever Jenkins tweaked (boundary closest to camera, first half)
So are you unhappy with their form?

Last year Sauce couldn't jump, JJ couldn't run & neither could Brown.

Who is struggling now?

Does it matter if they are struggling?

If there is a risk of doing further damage, and rest would help heal the niggles, you don't play them in a dead rubber

Which bit about resting anyone who is really sore did you miss?

I have no issue resting a couple of players, but Scorpus post to rest 4 is just plain stupid.

Back the system. Resting 2 players (Walker/Sloane) shouldn't hurt us too much. It will also give us a glimpse of a worst case "what if" scenario for finals. What does the team look like?

I want to give Thommo his farewell game (dead rubber and all) but feel we'd be better off with Galluci in. I still want to beat the Swans, but i want us to trust our system..... tough call!

To be clear, Cameron should be dropped, and at minimum I'd rest Sloane and Walker

I think resting 4 is fine if we have 4 with niggles that could get worse with play or better with rest.

The reason I'd rather rest them vs Sydney is because then they can come back vs West Coast and keep some touch.

If we wait til the final round to rest some players they're going to be out for 2 weeks and possibly rusty for week 1.

You don't flirt with form unnecessarily.

You also don't risk sore players unnecessarily.

There is no need to make 4 changes. This would be stupid against the other form team heading into finals.

I can live with that.

4 changes against Sydney though is crazy talk.

Give Thommo a farewell game at home and tough it out with the swans midfield result doesn't matter he may actually go head to head with those tough nuts

Wow you might make sense.

Thompson for Cameron?

Do we play it as a must win... or do we rest a few and keep our cards to our chest?
I am in the must win camp. And as Kane McGoodwin pointed out its a huge psychological advantage beating Sydney at AO where ANY final against Sydney will be played in 3-4 weeks.

Cameron is my only change for now and I can see Pyke staying unchanged for the rest of the year. My only concern is how Sloanes knee pulls up after a cool down

I suspect the team will rest anyone who really needs a rest, and not rest those who like most at this time of year are good to go - resting players for a home game Friday night, big occasion is a bit off. Rest them for the trip to WA if need be.

Sydney could win out and not make top 4 too...So maybe it doesn't matter if we rest players.....

If Richmond win both their games, Sydney can't catch them. They play Fremantle and Saints

GWS (WC at home and Geelong away) and Geelong (Pies and GWS) need to win 1 game each on top of Richmond winning out and Sydney can't make top 4 regardless
