You don't take risks in a dead rubber just because the opponent 'might' sneak into the top four.

And if we only want to win because we can't see ourselves beating them again in a home final qualifying final three weeks later, we have serious issues.

Exactly. Let's get ourselves cherry ripe for when/if we do come up against them in a final.

Kelly also had ice on his knee at the end of the game.

We've been good enough to stitch up a top two spot with two games to play. Teams like Hawthorn who have had this luxury in the past have used it to their advantage and rested players.

Aggravating existing injuries such that the player's physical condition degrades unnecessarily. Case in point: Jenkins, Jacobs, Cheney and Brown towards the end of 2016
Last year we had players who were struggling with injury & I was as loud as any calling for resting.

Who is currently struggling?

Best Sydney as we need the psychological edge & keep them out of the top 4.

We can rest anyone who needs it against Weagles. Only rest anyone who is really banged up against the Swans.
I think that is my preferred option.

Only issue being resting for WCE is a long time with no game before a Final. Not sure I like that.

The Sydney game means nothing now. We should be resting players. We should be targeting a full strength team away to WCE and hopefully secure top spot. If not then there is every chance Geelong will do it for us. Otherwise we take 2nd and go into finals with a fit team.

We cant rest anyone in R23. We must rest them this week. If we go into next week unchanged I will lose my shit :)

Id rather play richmond than sydney in the first week. So yeh it kinda matters

So what you're saying is you want us to risk players and win, because although we would have beaten them in round 22, you aren't confident we'd beat them again a few weeks later?

Finishing top and winning premiership is a million bonus I think so not negligible.

Have to actually win the premiership first though. You don't make that potentially harder for the chance at more money.

Well we had two potential injuries today. Walker and Sloane. I'd immediately rest them without a second thought. Talia and Mackay possibly also have niggles from last week. Rest them. Is Betts still struggling from his surgery? Rest him. Have we played Greenwood into the ground? Rest him.

There are many on this board with very short memories of last year's finals series.

Yeah, let's gift Swans to be out 1st opponent by resting a stack of players, as far more preferably than Richmond who haven't won a final in 16 years or Port who haven't beaten us for 5 games...

What risks are these?

Explain yourself
Sloane's knee
Talia's groin
Tex's foot/ankle
Kelly's knee
Whatever Jenkins tweaked (boundary closest to camera, first half)

If we're good enough to beat Sydney during the home and away, we're good enough to beat them during the finals.

We're playing them at some point anyway during finals so why take the risk on injuries?

We need to embrace playing against the best and beating them. The best way to do that is to go in full strength in the final.

Yeah, they were so injured, we brought them back on to play out the game.... unlike all year, when we have taken off injured players like Talia & Mackay last week.

You would make a good sensationalist journalist. ;)

But it makes no sense.

You're saying we must beat them this week because we will struggle against them in a final.

If we beat them this week, we won't struggle against them next time.
