This whole conversation is ludicrous and dumb.

We've clearly got some players playing injured or got injured. Why the **** would we play them and risk further injury???

Give them the week off.

If Richmond win their next 2 which they should, losing to Sydney won't matter and imagine the boost if we won a couple down?

Exactly. Let's get ourselves cherry ripe for when/if we do come up against them in a final.

Kelly also had ice on his knee at the end of the game.

We've been good enough to stitch up a top two spot with two games to play. Teams like Hawthorn who have had this luxury in the past have used it to their advantage and rested players.

Hawks never won a flag with a competition bye post round 23

No resting bullshit, they get a week off in a few weeks, plus beat the swans last game of the season means nothing, minor premiership rapped up.
If the Cats beat Collingwood next week at the mcg and the tigers win their remaining matches against freo/saints which they will, the Swans can't make the top 4. I'm hoping the prelim games will be GWS v Swans and Crows v Tigers. Crows in the boxseat with the last game of round 23 to make this happen.

If they are not right they wont play. Pykey has said this. Otherwise they play. We dont want players having a week off this week. Playing in Perth, Week off, First final - win, then another week off. Thats too many weeks off and we can flirt with our form like that.

He said that after last night?

He said the bit about if they aren't right to play they won't, didn't hear him bring up about too many weeks off possibly coming up.

Out: Cameron, Sloane, Talia, Walker
In: Gallucci, Seedsman, Doedee, Menzel

Cameron was obviously awful and needs to be dropped, badly.

Injury concerns over Sloane, Talia and Walker. Rest them all. We have top 2 secured. Don't go into finals with injuries again.

But there's 4 points on offer plus continuity credits. Premierships are won in the middle of August by banking continuity credits.

I've read most of this thread and I think there's 2 key arguments:
1. To rest injured players with the aim for an optimum healthy team come the Finals.
2. Resting too many players, we'd be flirting with form.
I think the best approach is to rest the players in the best 22 with the most serious niggles. That is, rest the ones that are likely to get worse injuries if they play next week. Here are my candidates for resting next week:
- Sloane: bruised shin and likely knee strain (only a guess from watching the game); since Sloane is a midfield runner, he definitely needs a rest.
- Talia: groin niggle, doesn't seem to be quite right with his game and appeared frustrated on some occasions, he deserves a rest.
- Walker: looked to have a mild ankle sprain, but if he can pass the fitness test next week, I'd rest him the following week against the Eagles
I think resting too many leaders at once might be disadvantageous to our relatively young team, which may then hurt the team psyche in the following weeks.

Rest Sloane for sure seeds in

Walker maybe depending on the foot maybe otten in to replace

Everyone else seems fine

Would even consider Sauce

Then a bye in two weeks

You do realise players have precautionary scans all the time & are often cleared to play. My ex used to perform many of them.

So I ask you for the 3rd time, who is struggling like last year?

Are you legit? Like actually legit?

There is zero benefit going hard at Sydney this week. None whatsoever.

We play two games at home regardless and you want us to put all our cards on the table on the possibility we might have to play Sydney Week 1 in finals?

You realise if we demote Sydney to 5th then they likely play a spud team week 1, a defeated Richmond Week 2 and then a home final week 3 against GWS? If that isn't a cherry ripe preparation for a flag then I'm not sure what is.

Rest Sloane, Walker, Mrouch, Talia and Jenkins, play bruise free football and get smashed for all I care. I'd rather play Sydney in week one of finals at home and beat up on them in the hopes they get so
sore that their entire finals campaign is derailed.

If you wanna be the best then you need to beat the best. I'd rather do it with a completely fresh list of our top players.

Not just that. But giving an inexperienced player or 2 a game on the big stage against the inform team of the comp on a Friday night in a finals lie game can be nothing but good for a "break glass in case of emergency" scenario in finals

They'll have a recent high pressure game under their belts

We should trust our system! I've said it numerous times. Don't rest 5, that's ludicrous. But give 2 a week off to get rid of the sore points. Issue is, it's probably Sloane, Tex and Talia who all need a rest. C, VC and probable captain if those 2 don't play..... too much leadership to lose?

So you want to gift the Swans a top 4 spot as our most dangerous opponent. You would prefer to play them instead of Richmond or Port week 1?

Even if we lose to Sydney, Sydney are still reliant on one of GWS or Geelong losing both their remaining games or Richmond losing 1 of their 2 games.

GWS have West Coast and Geelong
Geelong have Collingwood and GWS
Richmond have Fremantle and St Kilda

The Richmond v St Kilda game looks like the biggest chance of an upset for me, but surely Richmond don't let St Kilda pull their pants down twice in 1 season.

I think Tex should definetly be rested, scans on the foot during the week doesn't happen for no reason and he looked sore last night.

Yep bring in Otten. Mind you hasn't Otten got an ankle problem? Maybe Menzel looked ok second half yesterday up forward

Ha Richmond, you want us to rely once Richmond!

Injuries aside I'd go unchanged. This game is way to important for finals form. We need to take some momentum from Sydney and seal them outside the top 4. Their finals experience and confidence is the biggest threat for me. Any 50/50's injury wise though definitely worth a rest this or next week.

Our thoughts should switch to being cherry ripe for finals, who remembers the winners from round 22 at the end of the season.
Rest players that are really sore. Talia has a groin problem, if ever a injury benefits from rest it's that one. He doesn't need to be an aerobic animal anyway but 2-3 weeks of non contact conditioning would do him the world of good. He can step in straight away and not miss a beat.
This is the perfect chance to freshen up a few players and give a couple of young enthusiastic lads a run. We're not talking about dropping the whole squad just those that are carrying obvious soreness.
These games are dead rubbers to us now, we earned the right to home finals so take advantage of them. Surely we've learnt our lesson from last year about going into finals with injured and worn down players.

The thing is though with the week off between finals, it could mean that players are having one game over a month of footy as prep for finals.i agree that this would be a good approach previously but I think the forced week off changes things now.

Exactly. We need to slam that top 4 door in thier face ! The west coast game is the one that really doesn't matter

Sloane looks most likely to pull up sore, but clearly with all the weeks off coming up you don't rest players unless they need it.
For me the most pressing question, is there anyone in our best 22 not playing?
Probably Seedsman, maybe Milera, the injured Hampton and Hartigan, maybe Cheney.
Seedsman seems the most likely, so how do we get him in?
I don't subscribe to dropping Cameron, he's doing enough, and we want his finals game.

Give Thommo a farewell game at home and tough it out with the swans midfield result doesn't matter he may actually go head to head with those tough nuts

You're a broken record. Thommo can barely get to a contest, he's got no toughness to offer at AFL level. Who do you want to remove from our inside midfield group so Thommo can play his 75% TOG in there. He makes us weaker, not stronger, it's 2017, time to catch up.
