I've grown to like a suggestion made earlier that Mayne should fall back into Scharenberg's role in defense, opening up the wing for Aish to return. Sier, if fit, returns in place of Brown.

I have not. Mayne is dour and committed, for sure, but his link-up work is still god-awful and must only get around 2-3m distance in ball use every game. On the wing his work is better to receive/win and then to release someone sideways of him. In the backline it will be a huge liability.

Mihocek goes back, we at least have some decent height. Howe and Moore then balance out the spread. Crispy and Maynard provide mid-heights with enough closing speed to defend and then half-back rebound.

Controversial but I'd like to see Aish replacing Murray. What he lacks in pace he makes up for with a cool head and much better kicking skills in the back line.

Move Fasolo up forward to complement Cox (he's a much better crumber) and release Stephenson to be a flanker and we still have our forward pressure and targets with WHE and Fas not being the worst contested marks themselves.

Surely taking the piss...

It looks bad, but to be honest I reckon I could only name 4 players that I'd actually bring into our best 22 right now:

1. Treloar for Cal Brown
2. De Goey for Daicos
3. Scharenberg for (whoever replaces him this week, assume Magden)
4. Dunn for Langdon

You'd squeeze Elliott in there at full fitness, but probably have to drop Murray out of defence. I'd have Mihocek over Ben Reid at the moment. You'd also get Wells in there somehow, but truth is he hasn't been at full fitness for so long that I don't count him anymore.

Having guys like Goldsack and Ben Reid out hurts because we also have first choice players out. But the fact is that Scharenberg and Mihocek went past them this season. Problem is that they are out too!

Others like Aish, Fasolo, Broomhead, Sier and APpleby are close, but right on the fringe.

If we get De Goey and Treloar back and still finish in a good position for finals, then I reckon we'll still have a really solid team. Probably need Ben Reid and Goldsack back now as well for defensive cover in the absence of Dunn and Shaz. At this stage, both are in the frame to return before finals.

It's doom and gloom at the moment, but all we need to do is qualify and we should have a strong side (assuming no more bloody injuries). Real test of character this month as we need to eek out 3 wins to make top 4, and 2 to cement top 8, without some quality players. We can do it!

This week the troubling selection we are faced with.

We know Scharenberg is injured, and suspect Brown now making way.

This means Sier and Aish can both return with the added spice of Fasolo.

If Howe is out then Madgen comes in. McLarty likely waits in the wings still.

Collingwood

B. Maynard ~ Langdon ~ Murray

HB. Howe ~ Moore ~ Crisp

C. Phillips ~ Sidebottom ~ Mayne

HF. Hoskin-Elliott ~ Mihocek ~ Fasolo

F. Stephenson ~ Cox ~ Thomas

R. Grundy ~ Pendlebury (c) ~ Adams

I. Sier ~ Aish ~ Greenwood ~ Daicos

E. McLarty, Madgen, Varcoe, Brown

In: Sier, Aish, Fasolo
Out: Scharenberg (injured), Varcoe, Brown.

Out: sharenberg Mayne Brown Varcoe
In: madgen aish fasolo sier

Maynard madgen Langdon
Howe moore crisp
Aish Pendles Phillips
WHE mihocek Thomas
Stephenson cox fasolo
Foll: Grundy Adams Sidebottom
Inter: sier greenwood daicos Murray

When de goey trelaor reidorGoldsack appleby are available

Out would be daicos Murray sier madgen

That’s it and hope like hell we get no more costly injuries because not much is left in the shed

You may very well be the only one.
Mayne can't make a quick decision to save himself (and that's before he is put under any pressure) and he is certainly not a reliable distributor by foot or hand.

I like it.

Varcoe is absolutely cooked. Should retire.

We’d deadset get more output out of Oxley at the moment and Oxley is rubbish.
He cracked prestia’s rib. He deserves a one year contract extension just for that. If it was cotchin and knocked him out I would give him a 2 year extension.

That also set up a goal plus there's the goal he saved.

Mayne should just be dropped, Daicos has been more damaging on the wing lately and we have Aish comming back there's no point in playing him on the wing anymore.

Was quietish on Saturday but was great the week before , still with 11 possessions. His front and center work in particular is elite. There are some players who stats dont do justice to their influence and he is one.

He also fractured Prestia rib with very nice clean and fair bump. Be nice to see a few other senior players crack in similar less Mr nice guys more Mr T.:shoutyoldman::thumbsu:

Watched the VFL yesterday and would think that Aish / Sam M and Fasolo could walk in and go well.

Buckley tends to look at like for like replacements. I would think given Oxley been close he is a chance but I would prefer bring in Aish and push someone back.

Fasolo could play and he worked hard - harder than #5.

Sam is ready to play. He needs a game. Whether its best done in Sydney or Melbourne not sure but he can play.

Just on Faz, if he gets a call then that tells me his forward defensive work has improved - remarkably. Faz of previous years isn't in the best 22 purely on the back of his lack of forward pressure which all of Stevo, Thomas, WHE, JDG and even big Coxy has shown in spades and is a trademark of ours this year.

It was evident in fact that the whole team defence / pressure and work off the ball is light years from previous years. Even though we've been labelled as such in those years.

Thoughts on possibly Fasolo play back?

I think our forward line isn't a big issue. He did a stint there before.
I think he would play a rebounding role with his disposal, but Crisp/Maynard have been doing that well. Need talls more than rebound imo.

He was horrible back there. No way. His kicking isn't as good as it was anyway.

The good news is...selection problems...what selection problems?
Everyone was speculating, how will we fit players back in (from injury)...Elliott, Aish, Fasolo, Reid, Appleby, Treloar etc...media were also talking about looming selection headaches for Pies...not anymore.
Players dropping like flies...
Everyone gets a chance...hell, if Kyle Martin was still on our list...he would be in...
Do you have 2 arms & 2 legs? “yes” ok you’re in.

Maybe Bucks planned this all along.
Get em used to our second string side while the firsts play incognito in the VFL....then BLAM....we take em all out in an unbeaten streak to the flag....
