Always been excited by McLartys potential. Alot of it was on show yesterday and was very good.

A smokey to come in and take Mihoceks role across half forward. Pushing Mihocek back in defence due to recent events.

Really hope he gets his chance against Sydney.

He deserves it.

IF Mihocek comes up

I have not. Mayne is dour and committed, for sure, but his link-up work is still god-awful and must only get around 2-3m distance in ball use every game. On the wing his work is better to receive/win and then to release someone sideways of him. In the backline it will be a huge liability.

Mihocek goes back, we at least have some decent height. Howe and Moore then balance out the spread. Crispy and Maynard provide mid-heights with enough closing speed to defend and then half-back rebound.

Controversial but I'd like to see Aish replacing Murray. What he lacks in pace he makes up for with a cool head and much better kicking skills in the back line.

Move Fasolo up forward to complement Cox (he's a much better crumber) and release Stephenson to be a flanker and we still have our forward pressure and targets with WHE and Fas not being the worst contested marks themselves.
I cannot actually picture Mayne running forward and kicking a pill deep inside our forward fifty during this season. It may have happened but I cannot recall it. He is obsessed with stopping our momentum, turning sideways and chipping the ball to someone twenty metres away.

Watched the VFL yesterday and would think that Aish / Sam M and Fasolo could walk in and go well.

Buckley tends to look at like for like replacements. I would think given Oxley been close he is a chance but I would prefer bring in Aish and push someone back.

Fasolo could play and he worked hard - harder than #5.

Sam is ready to play. He needs a game. Whether its best done in Sydney or Melbourne not sure but he can play.

Would you play McLarty forward or back?

Scharenberg wasn't a line breaker. He was the shut down defender in place of Dunn. If Mayne going back allows Howe, Langdon, Maynard and Murray to intercept and rebound, that works in our favour. If the club decides Magden is preferable, then I'm okay with that too. Whoever's best for the role.
You may very well be the only one.
Mayne can't make a quick decision to save himself (and that's before he is put under any pressure) and he is certainly not a reliable distributor by foot or hand.
I'll be honest, I think Mayne's poise in traffic is quite good. I also think he's good in the air, has good hands and he's confident. And we're a little bit desperate...

I think you've nailed Mayne's strengths. But I question whether he has the size, pace and strength to play as a key defender. That was Shaz's role in the side more often than not. I reckon Mayne has found his role as a winger. Failing that a half forward is the only other role I see him contributing in.

In terms of optionsto replace Shaz I think there are a few. Mihocek can go back. McLarty could be bought in. We recently upgraded Madgen so he is an option. Oxley as a third tall with Moore and Howe key defenders also a possibility. It'll be interesting to see what the selectors decide.

If we debut Magden then I'm hoping for a similar outcome to when we debuted Dunn last year, and Mihocek this year - a very pleasant surprise! When I'm sceptical about what they'll contribute, they inevitably prove me wrong.

McLarty I would love to see selected, but may still be a bit raw; while Magden might just be up for it. We've had a great year for debutants, so why not keep rolling them out? We dont have much choice anyway.

I watched the game and agree with the comments. McLarty in particular was a beast who worked hard all day. Would love to see him in the seniors.

I'd bring in all three over the next two weeks.

Beggers belief Sam isnt getting more attention. Sam is a better defender than forward for mine. His work late in the year for the VFL side was terrific. We talk Magden but to be fair whilst he is v physical he offers nothing offensively. I am missing something.

Wouldn't at all be surprised to see both McLarty and Magden come in - reports have been pretty consistent that Mihocek might be struggling to recover for this week's game with his ankle.

In relation to McLarty getting a run - for once the smaller ground up there might actually help as he wouldn't have to cover nearly as much ground as he would at the MCG, which might be to his advantage.

On another note did anyone else notice that Howe was a little off in the interview about Scharenberg - seems to be a little vague and fumbled for words a little a few times?

Just on Faz, if he gets a call then that tells me his forward defensive work has improved - remarkably. Faz of previous years isn't in the best 22 purely on the back of his lack of forward pressure which all of Stevo, Thomas, WHE, JDG and even big Coxy has shown in spades and is a trademark of ours this year.

It was evident in fact that the whole team defence / pressure and work off the ball is light years from previous years. Even though we've been labelled as such in those years.

I watched that closely on Saturday and thought he did work hard so maybe the penny has dropped.

Mate I think he offers something both ends but I lean towards him being a natural defender to be honest. Certainly as a junior I felt that was his best spot. I was surprised they moved him fwd this year bc at the end of last year during our finals campaign I thought (like Sier) you could see the progression and he really dominated defensively. I think he has made a decent fist of going fwd / ruck but it doesnt bode well for him that we can have all these injuries and he isnt in the discussion. Overlay that with the talk of Lynch and May and you'd think he would be pretty despondent.

.
The problem is that Shaz could hit a target, whenever Langdon and Murray rebound, it comes back in just as quick as it went out

The spate of injuries sustained should have brought this club to its knees...
Instead it's galvanised the Group and brought to the surface an inner belief that we are contenders...
The opportunities that have presented themselves have allowed other players to fast track their development..
Whoever comes in let's get behind them and see where this ride will take us!
Go pies !!

Slightly different case for Dunn....hardly a debut....he was a 160 game veteran!

The only strategy I want to see Bucks put in place is :

Cox up the ground, around the 50 mark.
Stephenson deep on Grundy or Rampe.
If Grundy decides to follow Cox, that’s a win to us.

I also wouldn’t be afraid of having Cox one out with Grundy. Grundy wouldn’t be able to reach Cox’s arms. He’s losy his jump and pace. Cox might even beat him on the ground.

We take away their intercept play, and we win this. They’re the second best team at Rebounds.

Sydney have the lowest Inside 50’s apart from the 4 bottom teams.

This would have been a great week to have Appleby playing just for him to shut down Ben Ronke. I would also play Greenwood on Lloyd. Similar fashion to how he played Heath Shaw a few years ago. Lloyd averages over 500 meters gained.

Sydney are not in their best form, but they do have quality players who can win a game off their own boot.

Lucky for us they have lost speed over the past couple of weeks in the form of Zak Jones and Gary Rohan. We can’t underestimate them, but I see us wining. Pies by 26 points!

From the reports on MMM Hot Breakfast this morning between idiot Browne and Eddie it sounds like Mihocek is a good chance to be right.

They didn't talk about Howe.
