Adam Oxley, England expects you to do your duty...

I would like to see Oxley get a chance next week now that Shaz is out. He has earnt it and players should be rewarded for consistent good form in VFL no matter who they are.

It’s calm planning and all things considered there has been no appetite this season for wholesale or multiple changes at selection.

On that basis, expect only a few changes at most. Hence you’d think three would be maximum but that would only be forced changes. Otherwise two would be a fair guess.

What we know for certain:

Matthew is going to be out, and Howe is doubtful (concussion is not treated lightly anymore).
Possible soreness of ankle is Mihocek but looks ok overall.

Hence can see two changes being:

Scharenberg and Howe out injured. (Very very very sad.)

In: let’s look at who is realistically available:

McLarty, Madgen, Oxley, Smith,
Crocker, Sier.

Maybe ready but no risks taken include, Elliott, Aish.

Hence I’d suggest two players to join the team.
As we’ve lost two backs especially one playing a key role I’m thinking Madgen will get a first game and Sier will slot in too. It will be Varcoe and Greenwood to assist the backs if required.
Note if Mihocek misses it will be McLarty joining the team.

B. Langdon Moore Maynard
HB. Crisp Madgen Murray
C. Phillips Sidebottom Mayne
HF. Hoskin-Elliott Mihocek Varcoe
F. Stephenson Cox Thomas
R. Grundy Pendlebury (c) Adams
I. Sier Daicos Brown C Greenwood

E. McLarty Oxley Smith Crocker

In. Sier Madgen
Out. Scharenberg (injured) Howe (concussion)
New. Madgen

Robbie Gray was concussed and played the following week. I think for Howe, at least his head wasnt slammed into the turf, and he was able to walk off. I think that with Scharenberg gone, he will be pretty keen to play next week.

Plus he is similiar in build to Scharenberg, and can play that intercept mark role. He does have a good ability to mark the footy.

Even the richmond coach praised Mayne's role. Just maybe he is a better judge than some of the keyboard warriors here.

Yeah, I reckon he’s been good. He’ll never be All Australian, but amazing turnaround.

I think Oxley could play a similar role. Maybe he’s not as competitive but he’s a better kick.

I dunno but I think he would have had to been fighting like the devil in the 2's to even be on emergency for this team.

Oxley has dominated the last couple of twos games if I’m not mistaken. He is listed as 193cm which is 1cm up on Shaz. Could he come in and do a fairly similar role?

If i see one more post that says no risks with Elliott i might Terry Wallace.

What do you think the club has been doing the last 4 months. This week was the last 'no risk' week. He gets through, he is in. Some people are too scared to take a deep breathe out, in case they fart. He has done a mini pre season, will have played two games, he is in.

Given Scharenberg has been playing KPP and Oxley is soft as butter I’d say no.

I think you will be proved correct this week, its time

1 down another in.

Alright it’s shattering but the bulldogs run in 2016 was absolutely horrid.

Just keep pushing through. Win this week and hopefully add DeGoey.

In - Aish, Elliot

Out - sharenberg, daicos

I’ll wait for the VFL, but early thoughts are:

Out: Shaz, Daicos, Varcoe
In: McLarty, Elliott, Aish

Brown is in until JDG is back. Daicos unlucky but with key players returning it’s the bottom 6 that make way.

We could play McLarty forward and swing Mihocek back.

I think it's an amazing and inspiring ride, the resilience and character of the group is amazing considering the continued setbacks.
Absolutely. Its just awful for the individuals, you know. Guys like Scharenberg, Elliott and Reid who have missed so much footy in their prime years. I feel for them

If I was the opposition coach I'd praise Mayne's role well.

Although he's often played back Oxley's best footy this year has been on a wing. In terms of a comparable height defender we'd be better off looking at Madgen (192cm). The taller McLarty (197cm) hasn't played defence all year, however if he's switched back today it's a likely indicator of a defensive senior debut.

Love the analogy and the caution makes little sense to me as well. I’m now to the point we’re the injury concern is a non factor because one more and he’s done for the year anyway. The priority has now shifted to AFL match fitness. We’ve only got 4 opportunities left now which is tight as it is he has to play if he gets through this week!
