IF Sier doesn't come up I can see them calling Blair up (..........................waiting for howls of derision to subside.................)

He may be unspectacular but is a hard nut inside mid/defensive forward and a tackling machine. And does kick or set up the odd good goal, sometimes out of nothing. Yeah I've seen the odd touch of Blair Flair.
I suppose he'd have to be considered a depth player at this stage, but this is exactly the situation he's payed for and should fill a role pretty solidly.

The problem is the bolded... he's classed as a good pressure player but has hardly been able to stick a tackle for the last 18 months. He gets to the contest and his tackle numbers look good but anyone who has watched him play realises how easily he is brushed off when attempting a tackle.

I tend to agree , although Varcoe is still getting his confidence back I think and he has started to do a few things (roving off packs) that not too many are as good at and which can make a difference.

Next time we play Richmond, Varcoe should be selected to just iron out Cotchin early. I would normally never condone such tactics but this skilful sniper gets away with murder every season in important games and leaves opposition teams a man down . No real mention that I have seen of his thinly disguised punch to the ribs on Maynard while "tackling" but that sort of thing is his modus operandi and I for one would like to see him get some of his own medicine in advance once finals are with us.

He's about the only player I would ever speak about in this fashion but I am sick of it.

What about charging in from behind slamming into a players back with either his knees, hip and elbow....been doing it for about 18 months after heing called a soft poor captain at the end of 16, he has took over the enforcer role in that team.

Blair's pretty clean, not sure what his forms been like recently.
I thought he was one of our best in the VFL yesterday. At this stage of the season, would prefer him over a Brown/Daicos only due to experience. Although ideally, in my view, would like to see Aish and Fas recalled from yesterday. Aish's overhead marking is sublime.

Thing that worrys me is the report he was unable to read the scoreboard after he came off. For that to be the case has to be some concussion. Depends how he comes up but they will be conservative.

I wonder if they have tested his eyesight prior to concussion using the same test re score board?

Might have bad long distance vision.;)

But seriously surely if he hasn't shown any symptoms since the initial dizziness and blurred vision a week is plenty of time for recovery.
Given not every knockout gives concussion and not every concussion is considered major. ie you can have small bout of in the moment issues, compared to others who are vommitting, headaches and memory loss days later.

We're not quite in your league for injuries, but we're making a late run. 9/22 out last week and JPK & Buddy hobbling around.

Can't the Tigers just cop a few major injuries to level it out for everyone?
I'd like to give this two likes.

Yeah watching the televised game he was caught alot and his disposal always puts team mates under the pump.

Aish, Magden and McLarty were our better AFL listed players.

Fas had a couple good moments but not involved enough. Needs to do more.

Murphy not ready would be surprised if they opted for him over Mclarty or even Magden.

The Sudanese player Jok showed a lot of promise in the air he would be a nice late pick or rookie selection.

Admittedly I don't remember seeing Magden, but he intrigues me and am interested to see if they'll run with him down back instead of sending Mihocek back (which would be my preference).

Gee, a tough week at selection with so many unknowns. The only certainty is Shaz will miss. We've got a few options on how we cover that.

Option 1: Madgen in.
Option 2: Oxley in.
Option 3: McLarty in, Mihocek to defence.
Option 4: None of the above, Sydney going with Buddy and McCartin as their KPF and we should be able to cover that with existing players.

Then we have a few that we're uncertain about. Howe (concussion), Mihocek (ankle), and Sier (quad). Hopefully all 3 get up.

From the VFL, Madgen, McLarty, Faz and Aish I think did enough to merit selection. Blair as well but I'd be disappointed if we went that way.

If it were up to me, I'd be going:

OUT: Scharenberg; Brown
IN: Sier (if fit); McLarty (if Mihocek going to defence)/Fasolo (if Mihocek not going to defence)

If Sier doesn't get up, then McLarty and Faz.
If Howe doesn't get up, I'd be giving Madgen a run.
If Mihocek doesn't get up then McLarty must come in

Not enough heat on Travis Varcoe.
Seriously 11 disposals, zero tackles (apparently he is in there for all this tackle pressure) and no scoreboard impact.

What role or purpose does he actually serve anymore?
He has been in steady decline for a long time now.
I'd drop him to be honest.

WHE had 10 touches for 3 goals. (3 tackles)
Stephenson had 9 disposals for 0.2. (3 tackles)
Mihocek had 8 disposals for 1 goal. (2 tackles).
Jeremy Howe had 4 touches in 15 mins before being KO'd. Even Scharenberg had 11 touches before busting out his knee to put it into perspective.

We can get far better output from Fas than what Varcoe brings to the table these days.

Varcoe is absolutely cooked. Should retire.

We’d deadset get more output out of Oxley at the moment and Oxley is rubbish.

Yeah he is more lockdown defender type. But it at least gives us some height back there.

He held his opponent in check and in 4th quarter ran off to intercept a few fwd thrusts successfully. Is a mature body too which certainly helps.

With Howe, Moore and Langdon playing defence, we don’t need anymore intercepters.

All players in today's style defences need to have at least some nous in peeling off and intercepting. Because often players are handing over and switching up you can't always ignore it for a personal well I stopped my opponent mentality.

Sure, hopefully all the symptoms he had were short lived and he is good to go. Still they do take a pretty conservative approach nowadays and the interest will be to see how he feels once active and training. Fingers crossed he is fine but it looked a decent hit.

Was quietish on Saturday but was great the week before , still with 11 possessions. His front and center work in particular is elite. There are some players who stats dont do justice to their influence and he is one.

Out of contract this year and i would be shocked if Varcoe was re-signed.
It's a shame, but just not up to it anymore.

Think it might be Miachek who will need to go back to bolster the defense, and go with a small forward line with cox as the anchor

I think you are going to be shocked. Most wont be.

This week presents our biggest game of the season m, so much is riding on this.
Get the 4 points and it gives us breathing space from the chasing pack, lose and we are right back amongst it fighting for a spot in the bottom half of the 8.
Com’on pies, show that fight you have shown all year.

I've always been a believer in the 'don't weaken your strengths to strengthen your weaknesses' theory, so I'd really like to see Mihocek stay forward and Magden or someone brought in to play defence. Sydney might be the ideal game to bring a first gamer in too as with Sydney's current form it's not what you'd call a 'hostile environment'.

I'm fairly sure he re-signed at the start of the year.

If Howe and Miocheck are good to go,and it seems like they might be if you can believe the Age,then I think we will only make one change.Sier in for Scharanberg.Personally,i would bring in Fasolo as well, but I don't think he will be recalled. The coaching staff seem to be down on him for his apparent lack of tackling pressure and prefer the current forward line set up that we've got now.
