Excuse my ignorance and don’t flame me, but I’m struggling to see how a Cat B rookie with a basketball background and limited football experience (?) can be a better choice for a depleted backline than McLarty who aside from this year had played most of his football in defence and has years of junior development pathway. (Yes, I know Cox is the standout exception to this). I’ll admit I’ve not seen much VFL this year and the cupboard is almost bare but surely McLarty would have been the better option for selection?
What is also telling is non selection of Oxley.
We are stricken with injuries yet the Ox still can’t get a gig.
100% gonseki end year.

Who else do we have left in the squad.. losing Howe.. perhaps that runner with a bit of the grey goatie.. looks Greek or Italian or some shit.. he always smiles when handing the players the water bottle.. how long has he been doing that 20 yrs or some shit like that.

He deserves a crack for 20 yrs of water bottle services re.. what's fair is fair

Who would McLarty play on the small Swans forward line? McLarty is a big boy who isnt all that quick off the mark and isnt too agile (his top line pace isnt too bad). He just wouldn't match up well with either Franklin or McCartin.

That’s the Dave we know.

I’m more confident now.

Well clobber then because they are as soft as swans in the lake.

IF we did not have so many Injuries might been more.

McLarty is too slow. Madgen is a lot like Dunn.

swans are the team that play the most amount of time in their own back half, then slingshot forward. the thing that will matter most is how much we can score from the scrappy clinches in our forward line. The more forward entries we convert to goals, the less they will be able to get their rebound game going. our forwards have been quite good at this - especially thomas of late - so i think they are up to it and our backline won't be the key factor

and We Struggle with that Game plan vs Geelong and Carlton

Remember when Obi-Wan Kenobi said to Darth Vader “You can’t win Darth, if you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine”.
Then Obi-Wan kept appearing at times of peril to give sage advice to Luke.
That’s what is going to happen on Saturday.

Just as I thought.

That defence still looks pretty good with only Madgen the question mark. Three of them have been 2017 cornerstones, one is Moore who is a star, and the other is a Rising Star nominee.

Biggest worries for mine are Murray (ball use), Langdon (slow making decisions) and Madgen (debutant).

Wouldn't event think twice swapping those 3 for Dunn, Howe and Sharenberg.

I'd swap them too but thats not really the point I was making as you well know.

I've seen worse is my point. Add Reid and Apppleby to that injury list and its still not a bad backline, especially given the opposition.

Langdon is having a great year.
