Time to see if we can back up our competitive performances against a potential Grand Finalist.

Iles and Stanley are definite INs. Iles was so above everyone else in the 2s it was crazy.

Horsley also looking at a chance of return with a good run in the 2s.

Yeah..said in the other thread..Sammy Day needs to find his radar.
Stand Bull Stanley at full-forward..he's a reasonable match-up on Ted Richards who is currently AA you'd think.

Did Josh Hall actually touch the ball against the Lions?
I accept he deserved a go, but you can't make a case for inclusion based on that sort of performance.
Hall Day Patrick should go back to the Magoos
It's not going to do their confidence any good playing Sydney

Yeah, Josh Hall will probably be made way I would think. The follow-up game after a debut tells the story really. All of the excited feelings of playing your first game gone. He got a few touches, but looked way off it.

Watching the replay, I think Day did the best he could in the situation. It's not like the delivery was coming in lace out. Aside from that obvious shank when he was going for goal, he contested well I thought. Slipped out a few sneaky handpasses and made plays. I wouldn't drop him myself. Worse players around.

Tricky this week , would like to keep stabilty , Josh was poor and will be dropped , but can only see one or 2 changes max this week imo.

I wonder if Zac Smith will get dropped this week and we might run with Dicko and Hickey?
Is Hickey injured?
Would mean leaving Day and Lynch in, but there would be an argument for persevering with Sam I guess....Tom Hawkins case in point.
I noticed on Saturday night GAJ and Dave Swallow were basically roving to Hudson, so I'm not sure why people thought Zac was doing okay in the ruck.
At the moment he's got that "Just let me touch it" demeanour in his ruckwork..he's not really looking to place the ball to anyone.

Hickey played in the 2s against the Lions Reserves, but didn't have a stand-out game I don't think. Certainly not enough to get elevated. He might get a call-up, but with Mumford likely not playing, I'm really not sure.

Smith did better in the ruck I thought. He drew even with Hudson in the hit-outs with 21 each. It's just his around the ground work which is killing us. Pretty much the opposite of last year really. To me it just seems like a confidence thing. We know he has the skills to catch the ball and kick. He's making position, just not finishing it off.

Iles was so far ahead of everyone else in the seconds it was almost painful. I just cannot fathom why he did not play seniors. On any rate, he will definitely get a run this week. Stanley too you would think. I would go something like...

Out: Weller, Patrick, J.Hall
In: Iles, Stanley, Horsley

FB: Iles, Dixon, McKenzie
HB: Shaw, Warnock, Harbrow
C: Bennell, Ablett, Horsley
HF: Caddy, Lynch, Matera
FF: Stanley, Day, Brown

Fol: Smith, Hunt, Rischitelli

Int: Brennan, Swallow, Prestia

Sub: Russell

In:

Stanley, Iles, Horsley, May

Out:

Day, Patrick, Weller, JHall

First emergency: Aaron Hall

Thoughts:

Day, down on form/offering little. Let him kick a few goals in the 2nds to get confidence up. Throw Dixon to his spot at FF and May to go back who is all class.

Patrick, offers no pressure or really anything at this level. May have played last AFL match. Iles can come in who is one of ur better outside players.

Weller, lacked pressure/decision making. The more experienced Horsley should sut v the hard Swans bodies.

JHall, offered little, hes at least got his taste of AFL. Now back to the 2nds to further develop.

How I would line the team up v Syd:

Horsley Warnock Iles
McKenzie May Harbrow
Rischitelli Prestia Shaw
Stanley Lynch Ablett
Russell Dixon Brennan

Smith Swallow Caddy

Bennell Hunt Brown Matera

Keep Ablett on the half forward all game and rotate Swallow/Prestia/Rischa/Caddy/Bennell/Horsley/Hunt/Stanley through the engine room.

OUT: Hall, Patrick
IN: Iles, Stanley

Smith will get monstered in the ruck, and around the ground. Was quite pathetic and embarassing around the ground :(
Agree but with the addition of Smith out, he has been shocking this year and I think Hickey deserves a shot.

Does anyone remember going to the Swans practice match at Southport start of 2011?
Adam Goodes just did whatever he wanted that day
I think Riska will have to sacrifice himself to trying to shut him down....of course that just leaves Kennedy McVeigh and Jack :(

We did only lose by 2pts to a reasonably strength Sydney team in a praccy earlier on this year. I'd take that if it was offered to me for this game :p

Yes he was a class above, but then again he is against most opposition

I agree with this, i'm not sure if Rischa is capable of physically going with Goodes. It will no doubt be a team effort, maybe Rischa or Brennan to Goodes through the midfield, maybe Dixon or Stanley when Goodes is playing forward.

We can't afford Rischa's clearance and stoppage work to be sacrificed, its very underrated in my opinion.

I think you guys are too tough on Patrick. He has pace to burn & provides a bit of X factor. That pace could be a real weapon as the team develops. He hasn't made much of an impression on the scoreboard yet, but always looks dangerous. He provided a bit of spark in the last quarter against the Lions. He took a good, contested mark & was unlucky not to get a goal, when his shot grazed the other bloke's knee. He seems to have a real passion for the team. He presents well as a target & is taking the game on, like Bluey asked him to. He also does the team things, like punching the ball forward, when he's not in position to mark. Half forward flank is a tough position to make a big impact on a game. I think he's worth keeping.

Well at least someone believes we are a chance this weekend

Brett Kirk -
"I think the GC SUNS are a big chance, the Swans have come off a couple of really solid games, one over in Perth and a really strong contested game against St Kilda on the weekend that really pushed them and I think if our pressure is on and the boys really push the Swans anything’s possible."

Thanks Kirky

Thanks Kirky
Met the man up here in Boston, total class. Earlier this week saw kirky in a Suns clash jumper at training...having gone against him briefly, I am sure he's offering a ton of class in the training sessions he can make I'm sure.

Great core of games, experience and a wealth of knowledge for the boys to pull from. Looking forward to the Bloods this weekend.

Rischitelli out with a knee injury he sustained against the Lions last week. Couldn't complete training. Huge blow for us. :(

Club is confident he should be right to go next week against the Dees.

Iles and Stanley a sure thing. Maybe even Horsley too.

Official changes:

Out: Rischitell, Day, J Hall
In: Stanley, May, Hine

I have no idea what's happening with Iles. So surprised he's not in the team.

May and Hine did well last week. Hope they go alright. This is May's chance to show me what he's got. ;)

May to take FB you would think. Dixon at FF.

Day obviously needed a spell.
