Yeah ,we don't know the inner workings of what's involved between all parties but it's no secret Fages isn't a fan and that's all that counts really.

Let's hope we can dig up someone else with the same skill set who does all the other stuff as well to complement our midfield.

In other words a super player . They don't grow on trees.

I know someone was mentioning Ely Smith for Matho.
Seems Stress fracture foot 6 week. Poor bugger
Adams/Bailey still 5 weeks so a couple missing now.

Well Leigh said he had Bernie as his full forward in his best team while he played because it didn't matter where he got it forward of the centre he was going to hurt you.

I remember Bernie torping it from behind the wing with the wind behind him at the Junction Oval one day that sailed through the goals into the crowd .I swear it went 100 yards. Pretty special player to win a Brownlow as a ruck rover and then top the ton a couple of times as FF. Great guy too , very humble considering the ability he had

Bernie Quinlan meets his hero 3KZ is Football. He appeared genuinely touched that I named my son Quinlan.

That makes your son's name Quinlan Football.

Quinlan Wilson Football.
Actually if you look closely that's Gary Wilson crumbing the photo at Bernie's elbow.

Good result...he kicked a bag against us at the Gabba a couple of years back.

McCarthy will be in, keeps Cox in as well hopefully. Cox had a quiet game last round and could help us overall. Walters is their most creative and Matera has been going well lately.

Hope the boys are focusing on ourselves. 4 goals a quarter minimum, keep the pressure up and play like we did against Adelaide - winnable game.

Re Cutler

the comment from a poster on our board who chatted to Tom at a fan day. Tom responded with something like “could you pass this onto the coaches” when the poster said they hoped to see him back in the seniors soon (or something to that effect).

Yeah it was myself who spoke with Tom that day and I got the very distinct impression he was rather disillusioned. I was happy to see he worked his way back into the side a few ago but then got dropped very quickly which suggests he is very much on the outer and not in the core 18/20 players.

If Tom can't work his way back into the side I wouldn't be shocked to see him leave at seasons end or for the club to examine the options. Personally I hope he gets back into the side and stays as he's been through the hard times and now that the club is coming through the other side and things look promising.

Guys with Tom's pace and kicking skills and height are not easy to find. We have put six years into his development - the next five years should see Tom play his best footy. If he is to leave I doubt we will be fairly compensated for all that development.

It's Wednesday and there is still no preview thread. :'(
Tonight, it's coming out tonight!

It's my gimmick to get my preview out horrendously late.

There's a reason we arn't rushing to put Ben is the side and that is because he has never displayed anything close to be capable at the level. I watched him up forward last year at Marvel stadium, 2nd tier, front row - he had no idea what he was doing.

I believe he should be given a go and I think he will, I also think we need to reward form, but anyone expecting him to come back into the senior side and all of a sudden be a dynamic forward, have another thing coming. also can't subscribe to the notion anyone is keeping him out, if he gets his go, he will be lucky and hopefully he takes it.. because he is a great person and we all want him to do well.

Absolutely spot on. I’m a massive Keays fan and I’ve been very disappointed at some of the bashing of his ability in the past (purely because I think he offers a lot from a cultural sense) and you’ve captured that. I don’t wear rose coloured glasses, I’ve watched probably 20 odd of his 28 games and the first thing that comes to mind about his current senior legacy is “headless chook”. There’s no doubt he’s given no real reason for optimism at that level, in this point in time.

What I think though is that 60 percent of it is mental for him. He does have his athletic deficiencies but I think this newfound clarity in role, coupled with an entire pre season of forward coaching, and I am confident that the current version of Keays is as good as someone who’s untried. Could still bomb out but I think there’s good reason to believe we could see a different player.

We have traditionally struggled against teams with a plethora of mid sized and small forwards, Freo has a number of these. Nervous.

Do they? They've been playing 3 tall forwards; Taberner, Hogan, Cox/McCarthy. They're not small like Collingwood or the Bulldogs.

They've got Matera and Walters with 15 goals each then Taberner (injured) with 13, McCarthy 10 and Hogan 8.

Walters is quality but it's not a similar forward setup to the Bulldogs or Collingwood.

They've been playing 3 genuine talls for the most part. That may change with Taberner out but I'm not sure they quite have the profile up forward that Essendon and the Pies had. Walters is a gun but he's playing a lot of midfield minutes. Matera has been decent but he's a bit of a get the ball out the back seagull.

In reality it depends which Freo turns up - if it is the boring, slow ball movement, grind it out freo of the last 8 weeks I feel pretty comfortable as we can structure up well behind the ball and still score. If they decide to use the width of optus and play more quick attacking footy then that might be an issue.

They won’t get the ball forward enough for it to be a concern!

They are down on confidence. Injury to Taberner doesnt help, and if they go for the man (Neale) rather than the ball then it will only be to their demise.
Also Hogan is underdone imo.
Hogan and Taberner both struggled last week.

They're a bit of a confidence side. If we show we're really up for it and make the contested footy our focus then they can easily fold. But if they get their. confidence up and guys like Walters are given freedom then they're capable. This is a game we should win if everyone puts in like last Saturday
