How many last chances does the guy get?
What?
He won the club's goalkicking in 2018.
Ordinary season in 2019 but also had an ankle injury. Had only one game this year.

You're a hard marker MT! Plenty of blokes have been kept for years longer than Gowers and performed worse.

I know he doesn't ooze class but he's a big-bodied bloke who isn't a teenager (he's 24) and we know he'll compete. He's not who I had in mind to come in this week but he's still got a role to play in a season where every club is going to have utilise its depth.

Even if he fails tomorrow I wouldn't call it his last chance.

If players have done all they can and still find themselves on the outer, then go ahead and seek other options. Thats not the case for Toby.
I rate him as a player pretty highly but he needs to pull his finger out and hold his spot in the side. He’s got the talent but for the last 18mths has lacked the application.

The problem is the output from Toby over the last eighteen months has still been superior to many members of the selected team.
I would argue that Toby would be deserving of selection ahead of 7 players in the current side.

Not one or two, but seven! That strongly suggests he is not being treated fairly.
Nothing frustrates a person more than being treated unfairly, especially in their workplace.

Just because you can name 7 players he's ahead of does not mean he's being treated unfairly.

Both are your opinion, I'll back the coach.

He won the goal kicking with a pretty ordinary tally. If anything it highlighted how badly we needed people who could convert.
Since then it’s been all downhill. He’s come in, given away the same silly free kicks, missed straightforward kicks and shown no progress. He’s had more chances than he’s deserved. If you disagree with that, I’d wager you’re in the minority, mate.

Everyone already bidding Toby farewell.. Similar things were said about Bailey Williams and he re-signed weeks later.

Different scenario. Williams didn’t have runs on the board. McLean has been thrown everywhere, small forward, secondary mid rotation, run-with role, even time across half back, so not sure how he’s meant to settle (that referencevto another poster’s ā€œpull your finger outā€, not your post btw).

Edit: not relevant to the getting a game, but Williams also doesn’t have a premiership medal!

Consider me part of the minority as well then.

Toby McLean

2015- 4 x Games, 62 x Disposals
2016- 15 x Games, 260 x Disposals
2017- 19 x Games, 426 x Disposals
2018- 22 x Games, 526 x Disposals
2019- 19 x Games, 297 x Disposals
2020- 4 x Games, 62 x Disposals

dog-watch could do a wonderful point to point graph for our pleasure, but please consider application or opportunity ?

And Toby still has two years to run on his contract.
Obviously that does not mean he can’t move on, but shows the club has faith in his ability as I think he signed an extension back in 2018 for four more years.

Now I know what it's like to be in an oppressed minority group.
