Gold Coast will win this week but hopefully we will be competitive. Sadly, I think English will be dominated by Witts and I think Gold Coast will just be a bit too good overall. Our forward line lacks potency without Naughton and we will struggle to put a score on the board. Gold Coast have had our measure in recent times and they have a stronger outfit this year than they did last year. An easy win over the witches hats last week will probably lure us into feeling confident despite the fact that we didn't play a great game.

Prediction: Gold Coast by 20-30 points.

You didn't rate our game on the weekend Scrag?

I do not see English dominating but if he can break even in the ruck he will beat Witts around the ground. I think our midfield will win clearly and hopefully make up for a suspect forward line. Dogs by 15 points.

Nah, I honestly didn't. I thought that the Bombers were pathetic and gave up in the third quarter.

Lots of our guys are out of form. It is a worry but the only way out is to fight. It’s a shame they gave up, we needed a closer battle to give the coach a stronger message.

Bombers would lose to Adelaide with that effort.

I'd like to see Sweet come in for support this week, I know that sounds crazy given the game Tim just played but he did look really tired at the end of the game and deservedly so seeing the ground he covered coming off a 5 day break but Witts is the kind of ruckman who'll just dominate him physically at stoppages around the ground. I think a English/Sweet combo can give us an advantage when there up against May and cause headaches with there size resting forward?

Some of the other threads have covered this off. A second ruck is a liability with the shortened quarters. If we need to go tall we would be better off bringing in Lewis Young.

I understand totally the shortened quarter argument, it makes sence. How about when we head into 4 & 5 day breaks, do we rest English at some point? Should we be trying Sweet or is it a case of in an emergency break glass and play Trengrove? I just think rolling the dice with one very young ruckman is going to bite us at some point, there has to be a better option than Cordy, maybe it is Lewie :)

Every round people suggest bringing in a second ruck. It's never going to happen. Let it go.
Maybe they are seeing the potential of Tim English playing in multiple positions and therefore it would not be two rucks, but one
primary ruck and a quasi ruck forward back up. I personally would like to see a light and easy approach to weight loss from Josh
Bruce to inject a Luke Hodge like climax to his career. 5 to 6 kg would do nicely big fella. 97 to 98 kg.

No for me on Lloyd.
Has offered zero pressure , while at the same time not getting a kick.
Time to move on from him , dosnt play in front of West.

That's why you are the King, King. In a year like this we are far better getting games into West et al than Lloyd. That ship has sailed and I also think he has a tendency to be a bit hungry...must be the Bartlett influence from Tigerland

I agree with Scrag, I think we need to accept that we actually aren't playing as good as we think. A lot of our players are playing out of form and having shockers. Our only stand out game this year was the North game, where I could tell we were all on and thrashed a team that we usually have very close games with. This is just my pessimistic view though. I'm happy to be wrong.

Forget resting anyone this week. 6 day break v the Suns who have a 5 day break.

Unless we play Thursday next week we are probably looking at longer than 7 days until R8

3 games in 11 days for the second time this season so far?? Tall order for younger bodies.

Reckon we concede the ruck battle. Bring in Sweet to ruck 100% of the game.

English to play on King because he's the only one who can compete with that reach.

Obviously sarcasm.

I don't understand this thinking that we have to give our young kids a break.

Yes, younger guys don't have a fitness base like those that have done 7+ pre-seasons and may drop off as the season goes by, but they should have less of an issue with week to week recovery.

This was one individual perspective and was with soccer rather than footy, but at 19/20 I could play 90 minutes on a Saturday and back it up with 90 minutes on a Sunday and not have a single ache on Monday. Have coached many young blokes that have done the same.

Yet by the time I was 30, playing 60 minutes in one game over the weekend would see me feeling like I'd been put through a meat grinder until Tuesday/Wednesday. I think we take everyone on a case by case rather than assume anybody "has to" have a rest because of their age.

Personally think some of the older guys may be the ones that need to be managed thru this more.

I think we have seen this somewhat over the early rounds aswell with the younger teams playing alot more exciting footy where teams like weastcoast north and hawks have been very slow. Richmond are interesting aswell given the last two weeks have been the best they've played all season with a pretty young/inexperienced 22

Yes. Libba Bont and Macrae are shouldering a big load. Eventually we have to manage them I'd have thought coz it's not just about this year.
