Against Witts I'd bring in Sweet to bash and crash and play English fwd 50% of the game alongside Bruce.

Oddly enough the only player who I didn't think added anything structurally or on the stats sheet was Wood.
Would be a good opportunity to give English a breather too l reckon
If they won't play Schache
See what Sweet has
And what our Paul Salmon can muster.
Then put him back in the ruck the week after.Where he belongs..

Long term, what about a forward six of Bruce, Naughton, Weightman, West, Vandermeer and then Lloyd or Cavarra? Would prefer that to resting mids and medium sized players.

I hope to see English playing Stynes like games - never rested and just kept going but also think this season is crazy and if we are going to rest him - do it on a high - which is now. A bit like rests after a goal.

Witts is a good ruckman and plays big minutes too but isn’t NicNat, Grundy, Max or Goldy and so a good week to run Sweet and Trengrove and try and work Witts over as a Tag team with Trenners also play on Day and following him. Has played well in the scratches and earned a recall.

Also OK with argument to keep English on a form roll (and perhaps play Trenners to give him more rest and not leave us short in defence). I like Trenners and admit I would play him against certain teams where they have two boppers - PA, Carltank, Richmond, NA, GWS.

Only problem is that the defence has been taken apart but a lot of the cause has been up the ground - otherwise that back 7 is very settled and don’t want to mess this it. Our scores from D50 are a result of a smaller more skill full defence.

This is starting to look premiership level with a mix of stars. Cordy is undersized but only a centimetre taller than Hamling (admittedly a very good player) and Keath has Fletch covered.

Morris Hamling Boyd
Wood Fletch JJ
Shiggsy

V.

Crozier Cordy Williams
Wood Keath JJ
Daniel

Other option is to play LeYoung who has been very handy as a marking forward. He is a confidence player like many kids (still only 21 with hardly any games) and needs to harden by playing. He is like Schache - athletically gifted but needs to go for it. He is also fast which is how he gets open for goals so easily. I would pick him but didn’t see him in the bests in the scratch matches and so misses out.

Or Schache who was so good two weeks ago but stunk it up last week on work rate - which should be his strength. He needs to work like Riewoldt- and burn up his defender or play and extra mid. He is too focussed on directly addressing contest issue but if takes an alternative focussing on tackling, shepherding and gut running the aggression will come naturally. Again needs to dominate and get promoted.

Forward line of:

Weightman Bruce Wallis
Suckling Young Dale

Not to bad or too far away from our best if fully fit.

Dickson Bruce Wallis
Suckling Naughton Dale

Weightman looks incredibly promising and should have Dickson by end of year but if fit (big issue) Dickson is a proven star

Argument for Lloyd as top goal scorer but do not like the lack of pressure allowing goals the other way.

Also playing a third tall running tall like Young or Schache - would add something if they can get 15+ possessions. Schache will eventually replace Bruce and should be developed for this over time with weights, boxing and wrestling. Naughton will be around for 10+ so no room there . Young will be competing with JUH or as KPD - not sure but not sure which way to go.

I like Fergus but think he is too similar to Dale who has him pipped ATM.

I like Suckling as a HFF - good lead and mark - did apply pressure and when he drops back to wing can set up play beautifully and give space.

Would also rest Laith - he has been a surprise packet and also best to rest him. Like for like would be for Porter or West.

For now:

English - Sweet
Trenners - Liath

Wallis is still only 27 and for mine is still getting better as a forward. His accuracy is also crucial while others remain wayward.

I would really like to see Ben Cavarra get another opportunity. I know he played in Round 1 and didn't do much. He was in the majority category that night though as nearly all of his team mates were terrible as well. It's interesting how most debutants have been given more than just 1 game to show what they can do except he was dropped after his only game. I hope he gets another chance. I feel like now that the team is playing much better than they were in the early rounds he may be able to have more of an impact. Whenever the team is playing well it's always easier to get a kick. I have seen him play in the VFL for a few years and he was clearly always a cut above the rest at that level.

He actually played pretty well considering. He got very few opportunities with a very poor midfield not giving him much of a chance. He generally made the most of his chances. Only had three touches but kicked 1.1

I'd like to see him have another crack too. Cavarra and Weightman as our small forwards could be good, if Cavarra's a decent crumber.

Long term West is a mid and Vander an outside mid or half back

Long term Lloyd is already 30 I think so 2 years after this one ?

Cavarra, not sold on him yet

In JUH and Weightman and Dale hopefully keeps tracking up

I'm hoping cavarra can have a good run injury wise and show what he can contribute at afl this year so we have a clear picture going into 2021.
Id also like to see Dale get some time on the wing started off there and had some ok moments but moved forward, may be better on the wing now he has developed more.
Like the idea of
Wallis Bruce naughton
Cavarra marra weightman

I was thinking about this recently. I reckon our eagerness to declare someone "cooked" comes from a desire to see what the new kids can do. We want to play with the shiny new toys. We recognise that fielding an overly young team is not a good idea but if the older guys are cooked then what choice do we have? I get it, seeing Weightman bang home that banana last night was thrilling, but I think it means we write off some of the more senior players too early so we can get more of it.
I agree with this comment. Weightman, Butler and Vandermeer have been extremely good, but nevertheless they are clearly behind the likes of Lloyd, Duryea, Mclean and even Dickson (assuming they are fully fit). Not saying they should not be played, but they have shown in the last three games these young guys have played deficiencies stemming from lack of experience and not ability. They need more time. I would not really go into a final with say Weightman vs a fit Lloyd in the forward line. That does not mean Weightman is not a great player, but one game does not a career make.

Hopefully we know more about our next opponent and when we’ll play before finalising our 22. Quite glad we’re playing on Thursday though.

Is there some doubt that it's the Suns?
