Unfortunate about Lachie. Been good the last two weeks, hopefully we'll see him back on the field soon.

A little surprised Lloyd didn't come in since he played in the scratch match last week.

Bit surprised by Gowers inclusion. I haven't completely given up on him like it seems a lot have but he was really disappointing last year and in the game against the Saints this year.

The 2018 version of Gowers is still an interesting proposition, had a lot of things to clean up but he had some traits with his strong body and good one on one abilities that no one else in our squad really offers. Hopefully we'll see more of that Gowers this week.

Everyone already bidding Toby farewell.. Similar things were said about Bailey Williams and he re-signed weeks later.
People were saying the same when Macrae didn’t win the BnF!

The problem is the output from Toby over the last eighteen months has still been superior to many members of the selected team.
I would argue that Toby would be deserving of selection ahead of 7 players in the current side.

Not one or two, but seven! That strongly suggests he is not being treated fairly.
Nothing frustrates a person more than being treated unfairly, especially in their workplace.

You can argue what you choose to, Proffessor. It doesn’t mean he’s being treated unfairly.

Who are the 7 current 22 who are playing McLeans role ahead of him? To me, your numbers don’t add up as we don’t have that many HF/Mids in the side.

He won the goal kicking with a pretty ordinary tally. If anything it highlighted how badly we needed people who could convert.
Since then it’s been all downhill. He’s come in, given away the same silly free kicks, missed straightforward kicks and shown no progress. He’s had more chances than he’s deserved. If you disagree with that, I’d wager you’re in the minority, mate.

Minority here too MT!!

Players go in. Players go out

We are starting to look a little like a depleted team, however it's amazing how having the two big bookends in Bruce and Keath at each end settles the side and keeps the basic structure in place.

Bevo is a nutcase. How he consistently ignores BF input to selections, especially mine, never ceases to amaze me. My selections alone would have guaranteed an undefeated run this year. He needs to pull his finger out, and select McLean every week, even if he doesn’t think Toby is the right choice. Toby should be looking at a new club anyway. But if he isn’t, he should be doing his best at training to tell jokes and be Lachie’s mate, as that obviously helps with getting a game. Bevo is a genius, who else would win a flag from seventh, then spend 3.5 years trolling his own supporter base and the football world at large by recruiting Trengove, trading Roughy, yet promoting Gardner? Bevo is mint. Bevo is the man. I’m sure I’m in the minority when I say that the collective knowledge on our BF board would make Bevo squint, and hanker for a Cole Porter Titanic joke. How does Toby McLean not get a game but Gowers does? Bevo knows. I know he knows. But he won’t tell us. Bevo, you dirty rotten scoundrel.

Agree completely.
He's gone backwards. His one game this year was a mess.
Odds are he'll give away a few stupid free kicks and possibly a stupid 50m penalty tonight.

Having said that, I'm hoping he can show something or just be useful enough to help the team. We need him to perform to have a chance tonight.
I'd like to see him really crashing some packs hard, laying blocks for other guys, put some good defensive pressure on.

Kanyesque. Bravo.

Because there’s no VFL on at the moment, Bev sends players off to “look at their game” when dropped. That is Bev code for reading the Bulldogs page on Bigfooty & taking our suggestions on board. if that doesn’t “lift their game” and “he’s disappointed in some aspects....you know Toby’s still got things he needs to work on,” that’s code for start looking for a new club.

When Bev walks out in front of the playing group wearing a clown’s nose and squirts the assistant coaches with one of those fake flowers attached to a tube of water everyone laughs, but inside they’re nervous because they know that Gowers or Gardner are on the team sheet and he’s really angry. Clown weeks are when everyone has to work extra hard or they will be reading Bigfooty next week.

Clown weeks Are not real fixtures , they are tests to see who can take Bev’s eccentricity. You’re in the circle of trust or you are out.

Where is Dickson at? He isn’t on your injury list, your forwards seem weak so what on earth is the go?
How long will Dale be out?
He is cooked and can barely run at this stage. He's better than Gowers, but he's also a certainty to hang up the boots at the end of the year. I imagine with possible list cuts happening we're prioritising figuring out who is worth keeping around next year over playing those who won't be for a mild upgrade.

Given the state and reliability of our injury updates your guess is as good as ours re: Dale.

So the 1/8th has kicked in nicely then..:)

So Bev isn't taking Gold Coast seriously - again - how did that work out last yr?

Bev's selections appear to be about man management more than winning. On talent McLean is not behind Gowers and Porter. Not in a million yrs.

At least Dale is gone. Hope he and Hunter recover. Would prefer both to Gowers.

What?
He won the club's goalkicking in 2018.
Ordinary season in 2019 but also had an ankle injury. Had only one game this year.

You're a hard marker MT! Plenty of blokes have been kept for years longer than Gowers and performed worse.

I know he doesn't ooze class but he's a big-bodied bloke who isn't a teenager (he's 24) and we know he'll compete. He's not who I had in mind to come in this week but he's still got a role to play in a season where every club is going to have utilise its depth.

Even if he fails tomorrow I wouldn't call it his last chance.

Dogwatch you say "we know he'll compete".

I would say this is his biggest downfall for a guy of his status and strength. He doesn't compete hard or long enough. He flys for a mark yet once it hits the ground there is very little competing. On top of that his goal kicking and decision making with ball in hand is poor.

Lets see how he goes tonight yet I guarantee "compete" is what Bevo is looking for from Gowers, this means repeat efforts, chasing, working hard off the ball, leading up creating space.

Under 10 possession is not going to cut it. For our sake lets hope he can raise his game to another level.

For me it doesn't matter if he has 5 touches
If he hits the scoreboard, crashes packs has a Good number of 2nd efforts, 1% efforts and tackles I'll be happy

Some of what you say I agree with. He needs to up his continuous workrate.

However he has been good at creating chaos for the opposition in our f50. He very often brings the ball to ground if he doesn't mark. This gives opportunities to the likes of Wallis, Weightman, Porter and other mediums/smalls (incl himself) to create goals.

I don't mind if he only has 8 kicks if 4 of them are goals or GAs, so it's not all about possession numbers. In a season like this a two goal return would be well above par for a forward.

We know he's not silk - he just has to give what he's got. He'll certainly be under the BF microscope tonight!
