My point is that whilst Mastens form is presently good and he doesnt warranted replacing, he still very much lacks physical presence.

Thats not a point of conjecture, its a fact.

The counter statement was that I was still bagging Masten when we were winning, which I wasnt as such, rather, i was highlighting something which is true.

Thats akin to saying Priddis is super slow, or ainsworth needs to work on his disposal by foot. We all very much want them to play their role for the team and by extension, for us to win. But it still doesnt change the aforementioned.

This is hardly new ground, Chris has hardly been Mr Contested. Its all good whilst the boys win, but i will be very curious to see the sentiment if we start losing.
So he's been disguised by a winning team? Geez, you'd think the coach would realise how useless he is... makes you wonder why the coach keeps him in....?
Ok, seriously, as soon as another player with the same tank (and better skills) comes up- Masten will probably be gone, natural selection, but he's actually doing a reasonable job and they all make blunders, his are just funnier?

And yet we still won against one of the premiership faves at their home? Talk about cherry picking your argument! pretty sure Kennedy dropped a mark too, you gonna get on his back?
Masten (not Marsdon) played well on the weekend, was pretty effective at pumping the ball to good positions.

edit: no clangers either. zero
I supported Marsdon staying in the side you cherry picked the negative comments in your argument. Why dont you just accept the "he is still in the side part " and stop bringing up his negative stuff.

Think some point this season we have to look at dropping Waterman. He’s been wonderful but IMO We need one less tall for finals time. the tigers taking apart a tall crows line up is still fresh in my mind.

Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s shown up this weekend. I thought the same about the Freo game though but luckily we had paid off the umps ;)

I don’t think it will be as much of an issue here as the ground is narrower but at the G it will be.

I’d play Waterman (maybe debut abrander if Waterman drops off) till we have all of Ryan, Venables and Ryan ready. Think Ah Cher is big and strong enough to play as a third tall but also gives us an extra midfield option.

As far as im concerned, the jury is still out on this bloke.I was more impressed by Ainsworth.Early days.
Really?

I thought his efforts on the HFF were quite good.

I think Ah-Choo did enough to hold his spot and would be stiff to be dropped.
Nic Nat in for Fraz, who also did well and is unlucky that well it's NicNat.
Gov in for Schoey who actually looked a bit sore last week so may be injured anyway.
Jetta in for Nelson, my thoughts.
Sheed if fit in for Ainsworth, another unlucky one but he has proved he can play.
I think Hutch has to stay in, I want to see him bring Dusty to ground while trying a don't argue.

I think if everyone is fit this is the qualifying final team:

B: Shepperd, Barrass, Hurn
HB: Duggan, McGovern, Jetta
C: Gaff, Redden, Yeo
HF: LeCras, Darling, Rioli
F: Ryan, Kennedy, Venables
R: Naitanui, Shuey, Sheed
I: Lycett, Masten, Cole, Nelson/Waterman/Cripps/Ah Chee

Chances of everyone being fit is low though so chances are at least 3 of Nelson, Waterman, Cripps and Ah Chee play

I’m not seeing what masten is offering, at every stoppage he is not near any players, but directing others to man up. Yet being in space he rarely gets the ball with any time, and is often under pressure where his disposal suffers ( if he can get rid of the ball )

The idea, that he he been good this year, is based upon low expectations.

He positions himself between contests, with the ability to affect neither. I’d like to Jetta in this role instead. A bloke who can use the space, and will run with the ball opening the game up.

So here, ends the rant.
You don't want everyone drawn into the contest. Also, he sometimes plots himself in intercept positions of low hard kicks, trying to cut off teams coming back on the 45 towards the corridor, so a lot of the time the ball may travel over his head.

I'm fast breaks he's always the first one back helping in defence.

Also, 20 disposals is good, Yeo, Gaff and Redden have been pushing 30 touches each, how often do you see 4 or 5 guys from a team all get massive numbers? Especially a team like us who isn't overdoing it by hand. I think it's a standard output, with hopefully the odd game where he really gets on the end of a few.

I think its going to become more of an issue as Nic Nat now builds more time. Atm, we can carry kennedy darling and waterman as we havent really been playing our second ruck resting forward much, they have mainly been rotated to the bench.

Once Nic Nat’s TOG increases over the next few weeks, as good as waterman has been and despite the fact he is quite agile he is probably going to be squeezed out unfortunately.

This timing may coincide with the returns of ryan and venables post bye. Ryan has to be a lock given what he can bring, so to me ah chee/waterman/venables are fighting for that 8th fwd spot. I think we are more dynamic with one of ah chee or venners, and ah chee can play the role well i think if venables is slower to come back

Is there any particular reason why you refuse to use Chris’s correct surname?
Are you ignorant of it if just trying hard to be a smartar$e??

Tigers no1 ruck didn’t train.Interesting.I would not risk keeping hutch in the squad with hope of him shutting down Cotchin or dusty. He is not a two way player, and if they shrug off his tag, we are practically playing 22v21.Then again I like the bloke as he tries hard but he isn’t in our best 22 anymore.

Team Selection day!! or ducks+drakes day..
Ahchee lived up to my expectations after a long wait.
A walk up starter for mine, a solid unit too, exactly the grunt we needed.
Has a lot of potential. Reminds of Bret Heady for some reason? (minus the ears)
When the Ainsworth package all comes together (next season?) he will be a gun, still developing.
Nanks or Soldo?
